There is a simple form (and payment) process for anyone to choose any damnfool name he or she wants to use.

No court activity is necessary.

This wasn’t about a name. It was about an agenda.

Actually it seems like a dumb law that only allowed one party to change their name going into the contract. If Mr. Blvadhgk wants to change his name to Smith he has to pay 350 dollars but the soon to be Mrs Blvadhgk can do it for free?

’ll make the assumption that the people in the article aren't Christian, the traditions may not apply to them.

Your cod-theology notwithstanding, the last name is nothing to do with Christian tradition, it's just a distinguisher to differentiate people with the same baptismal name.

Surname: above the name. It's an epitaph or title added to the name, not part of the name itself.

LOL! Reminds me of the budding feminist gal in one of my college classes back in the 80’s. She proclaimed that should she ever get married, she would never take the “man's” as her own.

To which I replied, “So then your current last name is you mother's maiden name?”

It was so funny watching the train in her mind jump off the tracks.

I thought anyone could legally change their name in this country. I don't see the legal problem.
No, I never thought about taking my wife's last name. And my wife went through a bit of paperwork (the usual amount I believe) changing it and there was some (not much) consideration about keeping her maiden name.

Actually, I thought this was a little more common. Maybe it's just outside the U.S.

I don't know if anyone reads Irregular Webcomic, but it is authored by a fellow named David Morgan-Mar. He was born David Morgan. Okay, not high-profile, but he's someone that I've "met" in gaming message boards.

Wait, so does this mean that the ‘Michael Buday’ name is now available?

I am sure in that circumstance it is acceptable, but this guy choose his wife’s name, he wasn’t abused (except maybe by her)!

Related: A liberal (now in Conservative Recovery Program) friend named all his kids with hypenated last names like: (actual names changed to protect the innocent kids) Jason Ruland-Gritz, Samuel Ruland-Gritz, etc.

I asked what if Jason Ruland-Gritz marries Susan Coleman-Kennedy and they have a child. Would you be ok with that kid being Taylor Ruland-Gritz-Coleman-Kennedy ???

These schemes don’t scale very well. Thus, they are egotistical and more about the parents overblown egos than the kids well being.

Your records will be forever misfiled. Many systems don’t even allow use of - in names. Thus in some systems Jason will be under R for Ruland-Gritz and in others under G as Jason R. Gritz.

Ugh!

Maybe he can also sue to be called Mrs. and have his wife addressed as Mr.

If my last name was “Buday”, I’d probably want it changed too.

Yeah, so?

Knew a guy who had several brothers with male children. The gal he married was an ‘only’, who only had female cousins. Her family's name would have died with her marriage, so he took it to keep the name alive.

We marry them; not buy & own them...unless you're Muslim or (some) Hindu.

I’m so sorry to see so many “manly Conservative men” have such fragile masculenity, that they are frightened and thrreatened by this.

A bunch of nomophobes. *<];-D

Au Contrere. It is because wr are secure in our masculinity, that we find one so insecure in their own, that he would willingly forsake it to gain the temporary rewards of a woman who will eventually despise his spineless nature, and leave him.

I am saying maybe he was abused by his father. He clearly states he has more respect for her father than his own.
