Pray for President Bush -- Day 2792

My son, keep my words, And treasure my commands within you. Keep my commands and live, And my law as the apple of your eye. Bind them on your fingers; Write them on the tablet of your heart. Say to wisdom, “You are my sister,” And call understanding your nearest kin.

Proverbs 7:1-4

Heavenly Father, we honor and exalt You today for Who You are—the Mighty God, the Creator of Heaven and Earth, the loving and compassionate Father and our Redeemer and Friend. We, Your children, are so very grateful that Your Holy Spirit revealed Your goodness to us so that we could receive the salvation You prepared for us.

We bring our brother-President before You today, asking You to keep Your words of wisdom ever before him. As he has written Your commands, laws and truths on the tablet of his heart, we believe that they will guide him in every decision he makes. Let Your love, wisdom and understanding grow in his life each day as You take him from glory to glory. Your Word is a light unto his path.

No weapon that is formed against him will prosper and every tongue that rises up against him, he will condemn. Let Your blessing of deliverance cover him and every member of his family. Heb. 13:6 "So we take comfort and are encouraged and confidently and boldly say, The Lord is his Helper; he will not be seized with alarm [he will not fear or dread or be terrified]. What can man do to him?"

May Your grace cover those men and women who have laid aside their own lives and purposes to serve their country in military service. Be their keeper, their shade on the right hand. We declare that the sun will not smite them by day, nor the moon by night. Protect them from all evil. Keep their soul and guard their going out and their coming in from this time forth and forever. (Ps. 121)

Jesus, Lord of the Harvest, we earnestly yearn for the harvest of souls in the numbers we read about in the book of Acts. We pray that once again, “the message of God would keep on spreading, and the number of disciples be multiplied greatly and [besides] a large number of the religious leaders of all faiths would be obedient to the faith [in Jesus as the Messiah, through Whom is obtained eternal salvation in the kingdom of God]”. (Acts 6:7)

Thank You, Sir, for access to Your throne and for answering our prayers in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Do Unto Others
Whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets. —Matthew 7:12

In May 2006, a man set out from base camp to make his third attempt on Mount Everest. He actually reached the summit, but on his way down he ran out of oxygen. As he lay on the side of the mountain dying, 40 climbers passed him by.

Some say that at such oxygen-deprived altitudes, rescues are too perilous. But others say that climbers are too eager to reach the top and too selfish to help those in trouble.

I wonder what would have happened if someone who passed that stricken climber had said, “I will treat him the way I want to be treated.”

In Matthew 7:12, the golden rule, Jesus gave His disciples the secret to fulfilling the entire Old Testament relational regulations—love others and live for their benefit. He said this in the larger context of all the radical principles that He had taught up to this point in His sermon (5:17–7:11).

As difficult as it is to live for the benefit of others, Jesus knew His followers could consistently live out this ethic as they drew strength from a righteousness that went beyond duty and outward conformity to rules (5:20). It is a righteousness that can come only from God Himself.

If we are Jesus-followers, let’s walk in His steps—loving others and living for their benefit.

Love is an attitude, love is a prayer
For someone in sorrow, a heart in despair;
Love is good will for the gain of another,
Love suffers long with the fault of a brother. —Anon.

Love is the debt we owe one another.

I waited patiently for the Lord; and He inclined
to me and heard my cry. - Psalm 40:1
