The rough political road for a proposed state-budget fix got even rougher Monday as Gov. Bill Ritter stopped short of endorsing it and the group expected to propel it to November's ballot expressed concern about funding, timing and other issues.

"I don't know ultimately . . . if we're going to have the coalition together to put that on the ballot," Ritter said ...

The proposal, which would alter the Taxpayer's Bill of Rights and end mandated increases in education funding, started as a referendum, but Romanoff could not muster the support of two-thirds of state lawmakers — the requirement for it to go on the ballot.

On Sunday, Romanoff said he would take the case straight to voters. The effort to proceed as a ballot initiative requires approval of the ballot language and then 76,000 signatures by Aug. 4.

Of course it's a tax increase, less money in my pocket is a tax increase by any name they want to call it.

Distrust anyone that plays these word games. They can't be trusted to tell the truth about what they want you to vote for, so how can they be trusted to follow the will of the people once they get even more of your money?

This word-smithing only proves the need for TABOR.

Whew, those relocated Californians are wasting no time spreading the liberal disease to Colorado - weakening TABOR, gun control, unionization of state employees... just a few things I’ve read about in the past year or so. What a shame.

It’s not just those Californians, it was Republican Governor Bill Owens and former Senator Hank Brown a Republican who fought for initiative C to begin to destroy Tabor.
