Gary Mayor Predicts Possible Indiana Shocker
Washington Post ^ | 5-6-08 | Alec MacGillis

Posted on 05/06/2008 8:08:18 PM PDT by rdl6989

As the fate of a nailbiter Indiana primary -- and possibly the course of the Democratic race -- hung on his city, Gary Mayor Rudy Clay said just now that it might take a while yet to finish counting the vote in Lake County, which includes Gary, and said that his city had turned out so overwhelmingly for Barack Obama that it might just be enough to close the gap with Hillary Rodham Clinton.

"Let me tell you, when all the votes are counted, when Gary comes in, I think you're looking at something for the word to see," Clay, an Obama supporter, said in a telephone interview from Obama's Gary headquarters. "I don't know what the numbers are yet, but Gary has absolutely produced in large numbers for Obama here."

Clay said the results were late coming in from Lake County because of the large numbers of absentee ballots that had to be counted -- about 11,000. Under local practice, all of the cartridges from voting machines in Gary and nearby East Chicago are first collected at the local airport before being driven to the county headquarters to be tallied with the results from the rest of the county, he said. He said there were major technical problems holding up the count.

"It takes a little time. We want to be sure that every vote is counted fair and right," he said. "I just talked to the director out there and they are working like junkyard dogs to get that done as soon as possible. They are taking some time but I told them to do it right. That's what taking the time."

absentee ballots were put in BEFORE voter ID law in place. This could get really interesting. I live in the peoples republic of Lake county.

The math is the following 200 precincts in Gary with about a 180 vote margin in each plus those literally absentee ballot (like 10 voters living in a vacant lot) will add up to a squeaker.

Trouble is Rudy Clay mayor of Gary ain't too good at math and probably did not manufacture enough to put Obama over the top...

So they’re going to steal Indiana for Obama.
Good. What this race needs is more controversy and division.

Usually it’s Democrats stealing an elections for a Democrat.
This time, it’s Democrats stealing an election from a Democrat.

Before, we only could look forward to Hillary stealing it from Obama.
Now either candidate’s victory will be stolen and illigitimate.

Smells dirty to me.

Democratic pundit Bob Beckel strongly suggested earlier this evening on Fox News that Gary, Indiana democratic operatives were corrupt. Beckel said, and I don't think he was kidding, that he had once asked, in connection with an Indiana democratic primary election, an unnamed mayor of Gary when that city's votes would be reported. The unnamed mayor supposedly replied to Beckel that he would send them in as soon as he was told how many were needed.

It was interesting to hear Beckel talk about this. He seemed to think it was a given that vote fraud is just a fact of life; a part of the election process.

On FOX tonight, Bob Beckel told a story from his campaign days. On election night, the city of Gary had not called in any vote totals. He called the mayor and said “Mr. Mayor, when are you going to call in your numbers?”

The mayor responded, “As soon as you tell me how many votes you need.”

I have no trouble whatsoever believing this story.

From a county population of 484,500 in Lake County, Indiana there could conceivably be enough votes ‘found’ or created for Obama to erase a 40,000 vote margin, so it ain’t over yet folks.

Don’t know how many of the adults will vote in this primary but there could be well over 100,000 votes cast plus who knows how many dead people, fictitious people, etc. It won’t be hard to pretend Obama won by 110,000 to 60,000 or so, though whether anyone will believe it is another question.

Demographics
Lake County

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lake_County,_Indiana

As of the census[4] of 2000, there were 484,564 people, 181,633 households, and 126,961 families residing in the county. The population density was 975 people per square mile (376/km²). There were 194,992 housing units at an average density of 392 per square mile (151/km²). The racial makeup of the county was 66.72% White, 25.33% Black or African American, 0.28% Native American, 0.82% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 4.96% from other races, and 1.85% from two or more races. 12.20% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race. The most commonly cited national ancestries were German (12.2%), Polish (9.6%) and Irish (7.1%).

In 2000, there were 181,633 households out of which 32.80% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.70% were married couples living together, 16.60% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.10% were non-families. 25.80% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.60% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.64 and the average family size was 3.19.

In the county the population was spread out with 26.80% under the age of 18, 9.30% from 18 to 24, 28.30% from 25 to 44, 22.60% from 45 to 64, and 13.00% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 92.90 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 89.00 males.

The median income for a household in the county was $41,829, and the median income for a family was $50,131. Males had a median income of $41,986 versus $26,393 for females. The per capita income for the county was $19,639. About 9.70% of families and 12.20% of the population were below the poverty line, including 17.80% of those under age 18 and 8.00% of those age 65 or over.
