A mans attempted armed robbery of a central Mesa store was foiled Sunday when the clerk fought back with a Taser, his fists and a handgun, police said.
The 30-year-old suspect, shot several times by a clerk at Mesa Mart, 1510 S. Country Club Drive, was listed in critical condition at Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn, police spokeswoman Detective Chris Arvayo said.
Although the 55-year-old clerk had been assaulted with a pipe, he did not require extensive medical attention.
The clerk most likely will not face any criminal charges.
Hes got the right to defend himself, Arvayo said.
However, the suspect probably will be charged once hes better, Arvayo said.
The incident began about 8 a.m., when the suspect entered the store near U.S. 60. He then demanded money while striking the clerk with a pipe.
The clerk first used a Taser, but it did not stop the robber. Police said the clerk then shot the suspect.
The identities of the robber and clerk were not immediately released.

Good. Leftist politicians want to take away the right to self defense. They won’t be able to, but they will try.

A story with a happy ending..however, may I suggest some time at the range for the clerk?
My kind of justice!
>>may I suggest some time at the range for the clerk?
Just the advice given to a friend’s dad some years ago by a Detective in Florida after he plugged a guy twice during a failed robbery attempt: “Mr J., you did a fine job stoppin’ the crime heah, but you gotta consider the taxpayers. Hospital stays are expensive. You gotta practice mo’.” (The robber lived through it.)
Look at England and Mexico. What makes you think that the political class in this country is any different than the political class in those countries?
When I lived in AZ, this type of story was by no means unusual.
Don’t you love the stupidity of criminals who try to commit robbery in a state that allows open carry and is also a “shall issue” state?
Send that man a box of ammo!
With any luck , the perp will be reclassified from ‘critical condition’ to cadaver.
...the suspect probably will be charged
Probably will be charged?????
Is it just me or does that sound stupid?
He probably will be charged once he gets better, as opposed to being charged while he’s still in a hospital bed.
Why waste time waiting to charge him? Doubtless the state’s picking up the tab for his hospitalization... maybe the prospect of prison time will reverse his recovery. Money saved!
Send him two boxes of ammo!
Remember the scenes in “The Magnificent Seven” where Bronson and Brad Dexter are trying to teach the Mexican peasants to shoot? That is what I am reminded of, here....
Cock, aim, shoot! Cock, aim, shoot!
Cock, shoot, aim !
OOPS!
LOL
if the police arrest him while he’s in the hospital, the perp is now under their custody and the police are responsible for his bill..once he’s released, THEN they slap the cuffs on him..
at least that’s the way I understand it..
Or a larger caliber hollow-point
Aim, shoot cock.
Oh, wait...
Yeah, I was kind of wondering what round the clerk was shooting, too, but the assailant could also have been on PCP or meth.
+1 for the Sheriff guy.
Maybe, but I think being beaten with a guy with a pipe while aiming will detract from accuracy. ;-)
Good outcome, overall. Maybe the clerk will now ditch the stupid taser. Going for that could have gotten him killed.
That's possible, since he wasn't affected by the taser.
Our political class is no different. However there are too many of us with arms that would defy an unconstitutional gun grab.
Said he used a taser, his fists and a handgun.
Which order?
hehe. I was kinda hoping he tased the guy over and over after he shot him haha
Ah, the guy’s hurt. Show a little compassion. He’s not going anywhere.
I’ll show him the same compassion he showed the store clerk. Charge him! ;)

WHAT?!!!
ROTFLMAO
I suspect the clerk will be punished by being fired. Most convenience store chains prohibit resisting a robber. Some may even prohibit the clerk having a gun in the store for self defense.
Not so many as you might think (probably a handful at best in NY, CT, NJ, MD and MA, since these people have let themselves be disarmed and are proud of the fact.) I've sort of lost my faith in the courage of the American people. They don't want freedom any more; they want to be taken care of from the cradle to the grave, and if it means being slaves, then they're willing to accept the jackboot on their necks.
Ill ask him next time i visit his store.. assuming hes not too shakin up..
Country Club between the freeway and Southern? Maybe I’ll see you in there! Honestly, I don’t remember a convenience store between the freeway and Southern.
