Uh, then maybe it was "public service"?

Gotta' be something.

Sounds like the work of someone who is sick of having the sea lions destroy their traps and nets and eat all their fish.

P.S. The best thing you can di if you find an endangered species on your property is to run it off. If it won’t leave, kill it and bury it.

Fort Bragg, California ?????

Yes, Fort Bragg California. Look it up on a map, it is an ex-fishing town on the coast, a good deal north of San Francisco.

Well SOB. Is it an ‘ex-fishing’ town because of the sea lions?

Good start...I’ll bet it was an Indian.

My thoughts too and good for him These salmon chomping sea lions are mega pests and need to die. The world isn't running out of sea lions

"The traps are too far from the bank for anyone other than a trained sniper to get a killing shot, much less six..." [excerpt]

Many 'armature target shooters' are more capable than 'trained snipers'.

Exactly how far out were they?

How do we know the enviro-nuts didn't shoot them in order to place blame on local fishermen and garner sympathy for more federal protection for the seals and everything else wild?

If your theory is correct we'll never hear about it in the MSM.
Screw the Seals, they'll protect the wackos to enhance their agenda.

“The traps are too far from the bank for anyone other than a trained sniper to get a killing shot, much less six...”

Ummm? Where to start...

Well, first off, just downstream of the dam the river narrows down to about 250-350 meters from bank to bank. That’s where the traps were likely placed, around one of the river’s bottlenecks. That’s not “trained sniper” country there, that’s something a drunk bubba with a deer rifle can manage.

Furthermore, shooting at something that’s floating out in the river is pretty damned easy. If you miss, you’ll see a nice plume of water at your point of impact. Shift your point of aim, and there ya go.

What’s more, what makes you think that it would take a ‘trained sniper’ to make those shots rather than, say, some fellow who spends the weekends plunking groundhogs? ;)

Long-range shooting isn’t quite as esoteric as many people think it is.

Maybe it was the salmon, in self defense.

Actually, it could more easily have been done from a small boat with an electric trolling motor and no lights. Once the shooter got close to the trap he could have used a suppressed gun of almost any type. He could even use some sort of ‘throw-away’ suppressor such as a plastic soft-drink bottle. Of course, he’d lose some accuracy but at fifteen feet or so it couldn’t make much difference.

Whatever he used, I hope he has the good sense to keep his mouth shut. As near as can be told now, they don’t have a clue to work with and unless someone talks they won’t. This is even better than “Shoot, shovel and shut up” since no shovel is needed.

BTW, the story on the morning news says that only one of the six were scheduled to be transported to another locale. The rest were going to be turned loose... to eat more fish, I guess.
