The Labor Party was headed for a third-place finish in local elections in Britain in early results Friday morning.
The big winner was the Conservative Party, The Telegraph reported. The party's campaign headquarters said it expected to top its goal of picking up 200 seats on local councils.
The big loser was Prime Minister Gordon Brown, the newspaper said. The local elections were his first big test with voters since he succeeded Prime Minister Tony Blair last year.
"Gordon Brown has had his 'Life on Mars' moment," a Conservative spokesman said. "He went to sleep in 2008 and today he's waking up with support back to the worst his party has seen since records began in 1973."

The bad news is that this ain’t Maggie Thatcher’s Conservatives that won the day. :-\
The only cure for liberal nation-states suffering from the direct effects of political and cultural psychosis due to the institutionalization of political correctness, is, to elect conservatives in the hope they too, will continue to follow thru with the elimination of PC, which they also suffer from, but to a lessor and definitely survivable degree. The EU is/will be the death of European civilization due to political correctness. Only the politically deranged are looking for a EU ‘George Washington’ who, if alive, would bury the EU as fast as he could. If Blair gets the nod, I hope he does not compare himself to George Washington.
Maybe the brits are tired of politicians coddling the islamo scumbags in their country.
couldn’t happen to a nicer bunch of liberals....
Sadly true. Their hatred for Blair metastasized into a hatred for America. I hope that some sanity can be found in their leadership ranks to right their ship.
Amen. The word Twit comes to mind.

Another liberal regime falls under the people’s sword.
I think if that were the case they would have voted in the BNP.
Anyway the dynamic behind these council elections was 30% local issues and 70% "stop taxing us to death you gormless Scottish git" (that would be Gordon Brown, no offense to Scottish FReepers)
“I think if that were the case they would have voted in the BNP.”
Maybe they don’t like far-leftist racists either?
If people want on or off this list, please let me know.
Had to look that up.
gorm·less (gôrmls) adj. Chiefly British
Lacking intelligence and vitality; dull.
[From dialectal gawm, sense, from Middle English gome, notice, from Old Norse gaumr.]
Wow... Labor is becoming a third party in Britain. The Liberal Democrats are stepping up to replace them as the voice of liberalism in the UK, and the Tories are ascendant again. It seems like the Right is coming to power everyone in the Western countries, with the exception of commie-loving South America.
Perhaps you haven't noticed the Leftists have a grip on America too....
Thank you, knighthawk!
Isn’t it great...Old Europe seems to be returning it’s senses!
I just hope it’s not too late.
