I was a paramedic in saginaw from 1976-1980. I can attest the violence and damage that the drugs caused. We had many homocides, assaults, drug overdoses, etc. However, I was also aware of how people were sentenced for drugs during that time also. I highly doubt that she would have received 20 years unless she was very very involved in trafficing drugs. Most people for simple possession would have gotten county time, not state time for this. I probably know the drug team commander who has long since retired. Knowing how he worked, I suspect she was indeed a major player. If not, they would have used her to make more buys.

They are called Courts of Law, not Courts of Justice for a reason.

I agree that she should have some penalty for escaping, and that it should be heavily tempered with mercy and consideration for her keeping her nose clean for the past 32 years.

Sadly, governments don't do mercy.

I might add Sandy Berger to your examples of Government largess to those well-placed. At this point in time I have very little faith in the Justice System. Wish it were otherwise.

Thanks for your on-the-scene input! One of the news stories gave both sides of the story on this - her side, where she tries to minimize it, and the authorities' side, where they try to maximize it. I posted the authorities' side in post #16.

I realize we can't have a functioning society without adherence to, and enforcement of, duly passed laws. However, I think we have too laws on the books, and the government has too much ready cash laying around to enforce the too many laws.

I don't think the Founders envisioned a government where taxpayer dollars are spent without a second thought pursuing a "dangerous felon" like this Lefevre person.

I've also been thinking about the "anonymous tipster", too.

If this person turned her in out of malevolence, what kind of government do we have where such malevolence is basically rewarded and "atta-boyed"?

The thing that's bugging me is how much did they blow on this little expedition, and why we're authorizing such ventures?

So, the government can track down a woman who has been missing for three decades and changed her name and they can’t track down illegal aliens in our midst?

Nothing to see here - move along...

Get a grip will ya! I haven’t touched drugs in thirty years. Wish I’d never been involved with them. But this is just ridiculous! !0 t0 20 for bein’ in the car? There’s no way this would happen today. And look at her life! She’s totally changed! I hope Mich sees the light and gives her probation, and let’s her raise her kids. What a sad situation.

Saginaw has never ranked very high on the list of "Michigan scenic places".

It's kind of strange. Her boyfriend pled at the same time for the same offenses, and got the same sentence. However, he was paroled after two years (dead in five - didn't learn a dang thing).

If she would have stuck it out, perhaps she would have been paroled also. Oh, well - the Hounds of Hell will demand their pound of flesh, I imagine.

Sad isn't it......gov't will now JAIL her, while we continue to read threads about illegal CHILD MOLESTERS that can plead guilty & then be allowed to SELF DEPORT, & serve NO U.S. jail time. !!!

sheesh.....fine her & let her do community service.....

You got that right. But, hey, it is all form over substance and usually based on random circumstances and raw emotional appeal.

A great example of this is the $1 Million plus they spent a few years ado ‘rescuing’ a few whales trapped by ice. They had Icebreakers and helicopters rushing to aid these whales while many, many, many other whales, not so fortunate to be found by the Media, languished as they have since the beginning of time.

To boot, during the time they were making these heroic efforts, the Japanese probably hunted and killed many times this number.

Again, form over substance.

This is Tijuana, Mexico 15 miles south of San Diego. Hundreds of Mexicans soldiers. The drug cartels are killing people up to 14 a weekend. kidnappings, beheadings are routine. Most in San Diego see what drugs are doing especially those who are high on drugs and hit and run, or high and kill their kids, etc.and see just miles south of us, and the drug cartels who make the old mafia look like boy scouts. This gal who has been living here needs to face reality. what ever the sentence, you don't escape prison and all is OK.

Yeah! What he said!

Well, unless you're Bill Clinton or Sandy Berger...

You DO realize that our government is a few short years from total corruption, ala Mexico, don't you?

They're not going to be able to raise taxes enough to pay their own salaries & benefits, AND buy supplies and equipment to provide services to the public.

So the services will be the first thing to go (as we speak).

However, we won't lose the body on the government payroll - and they'll probably need some walking around money above and beyond what they're squeezing out of us.

The last of our worries is the economy.
They don’t make pockets in shrouds.
We need to focus and win the wars on the IslamOfascists.

Also, people like Clinton and Berger should be serving time.
Because they aren’t doesn’t mean everyother criminal gets a free ride.

The cartel’s crimes are many.

Also The illegals here are great for DUIs and killing people.

They don’t make pockets in shrouds.

Agreed. There are a lot of things our lords and masters aren't taking seriously enough.

Because they aren’t doesn’t mean every other criminal gets a free ride.

I begin to take issue with the term "criminal" when I see our elected buffoons cranking out a new law creating a new felony every ten seconds or so (what was the latest knee-slapper - a federal boat license for all those nuke-carrying 12 foot rowboats?). I then start looking around at where the money for prosecuting all these "felons" is coming from - your wallet, and mine.

Of course, if the "felon" is politically connected, we'll spend the money - we just won't pull the trigger at the end.

I'm down on the government having a free lunch on my dime day in and day out. I know the Founders would have been down on it too.
