The point needs to keep being driven home that cheap abundant energy affects all that we do, and all that we have. Liberals who happily restrict energy exploration and implementation, and those that vote for them, can take a flying .... off a short pier. They have had this coming for a long time now. There has been a long time running debate between those who understand the need for abundant energy, and those who restrict energy for whatever crackpot theory in vogue at the time. We, the supporters of abundant energy, lost that debate, and we lost it in spades. Unfortunately, we are also suffering because those who we trusted to fight for us - folded.

To the liberals politicians and their supporters in Hawaii - good on ya - ya wankers. To the innocent victims of liberal catastrophic policies, I offer my heartfelt prayers. Abundant inexpensive food, abundant inexpensive energy, abundant employment - all gone now.

Hawai'i's economy, reeling from the loss of thousands of jobs with the demise of Aloha Airlines' passenger service, the closure of Molokai Ranch and NCL America's decision to pull out two of its ships, now faces the loss of a vital transportation link with the shutdown of Aloha's cargo operations.

NCL's ships were not the best, but having the only all-Hawaiian itinerary made it one of the best ways to see Hawaii. There is not much on Molokai island, now there will be nothing. I guess the locals got their wish and not only stopped any further development, but shut down the only resort on the island. Aloha airlines offered some of the best fares to Hawaii, now they are no more.

Underreported story. Gets in the way of the “Oil has peaked!/Subprime crisis is all over!/Dollar is rebounding!” mantras they’ve been chanting this week. ;)

Good.

Let them starve or forage.

The lender previously threatened to pull the financing for the cargo operations after a dispute with Aloha's pilots.

Aloha pilots laid off with the closure of the passenger service wanted the option to work for the cargo division. Last week, the pilots' union threatened to strike over the issue.

Talk about a group of geniuses.

This has almost nothing to do with the price of fuel, its still about the subprime mess. It was not about the financial state of the cargo airline, but rather the lender, GMAC. GMAC is in terrible financial condition right now due to too much subprime lending which is now defaulting. GMAC propbably just didn’t have any money to lend anymore.

They wanted the cargo pilots’ jobs ... passenger pilots have more seniority.

Whatever they wanted, they managed to kill the company, and I won’t shed a tear for them.

Also, while certainly bad for everyone at Aloha, both UPS and FedEx have service Hawaii. They can increase their aircraft fleet to make up the difference.
