Gov. Bobby Jindal touted Louisiana's hurricane recovery efforts and tossed aside rumors he could be a possible running mate for Republican presidential contender John McCain, when he appeared Monday on NBC's "Tonight Show."

Bobby Jindal is too smart to tie his star to the McCain anchor. He's going to serve eight years as governor, and then become president in 2016, assuming he'd be running against an incumbent democrat in the POTUS spot that year.

IMO, Katrina was the best thing to ever happen to Louisiana -- especially New Orleans.

I saw Bobby give a speech in NOLA earlier this year. He is a rising star. I'm surprised he was on the Tonight Show.

I think he’ll stick around as governor for eight years. He can’t leave in four; we really need him.

I wonder if having her Down’s Syndrome son will put thoughts of national office out of Palin’s head.

His appearance on Leno was the first time I've seen him.
I was expecting the stereotypical Indian accent - boy was I supprised!
Sounded more like John Edwards!
He has a fascinating story.
Looking forward to see this guy's career.

Missed seeing Jindal :( I really like the man.

WWL.com Reporting
http://wwl.com/New-Orleans-to-host-Google-YouTube-Presidential-fo/2091184

The group Women of the Storm today announced that New Orleans will hold a presidential debate.

Google and YouTube will host the debate between the Democrat and Republican nominees on September 18th.

Group founder Anne Milling calls it a “very exciting end run.” After the debate commission rejected New Orleans she says, “We went to Google/YouTube in January of this year very quietly below the radar screen.”

The company agreed to host the debate more than a week before the first commission debate set for Oxford, Mississippi on September 26th.

Milling says none of the candidates have committed to the debate, but she expects that will happen once there is a candidate for the Democrats.

Mayor Ray Nagin says, “We’re ready to welcome the candidates to our city.”

Governor Bobby Jindal says it will be “an important discussion of the top issues facing our nation.”

The forum also offers an opportunity to show off the role that new technology is playing in politics.

“The Internet has opened up public dialogue in ways we never imagined possible,” said Chad Hurley, the CEO of YouTube.com. “Now with our partnership with the people of New Orleans on this presidential forum, we have a chance to open it up even more.”

For anyone who's interested, you can watch it:

Mash this and click on Monday April 28

You don't have to watch the whole show; you can click through the time line until you find it, but you do have to watch a couple of Comfort Inn commercials.

Bobby Jindal is an American success story of the first order. He appears to be extremely intelligent, capable, talented, personable, tells a great story from his heart.

He appears to be solidly conservative and since he has already passed a plethora of anti-corruption bills in NEW ORLEANS, LA for goodness sake, I think he is the real deal.

Friends who own businesses in NOLA say wonderful things about him. I have high hopes for him.

I hope God has special angels that watch out for him and his family because I think he could be the real deal.

Regards,

TS

Though, to be honest, I’ve never heard anyone with the stereotypical Indian accent (think Apu from the Simpsons or Babu from Seinfeld) — those are non-Indian attempts at an Indian accent.

I hope you’re wrong and he’s truly interested in the cost-cutting discipline that Pres. Bush has no interest in but Pres. McCain wants to bring back in style.

I watched the debate on the Senate floor yesterday afternoon. Jindal’s people were all over the floor lobbying for the killer amendment.

They succeeded.

Senate Bill 87 by Buddy Shaw would repeal part of the Stelly Tax increase. Baton Rouge is awash in money, yet Jindal does not want individuals to have a tax cut.

He is fighting SB87. You will have your eyes opened before too long.

Baton Rouge is floating in money right now. By the time all the deadheads have spent the money, there won’t be any left for a tax cut.

If we don’t get it this session, we won’t get it at all.

Like I said, lets see how the state shapes up in the next four - eight years. If he gets us remotely out of the Banana Republic we’re in, I’ll forgive him the Stelly plan (which, as noted earlier, the idiot voters in the state passed in the first place).

Lived the first 24 years of my life in LA and now live in Alaska. Don’t be enamored with Palin. She is not what she appears to be. She would more likely be a candidate with McCain as they are both RINO’s of the first order. Bobby Jindal on the other hand appears to be the real thing. He would be very wise to avoid the McCain/Palin types. Sorry to burst your bubble but the same thing happened to me after I supported Sarah with time, money and effort for the election here.

So why then do the Jindal allies load up a clean bill with a larger tax cut if they say they need spending cuts? That makes no sense.

Do you not realize that Louisiana's budget has doubled over the past five years? Unless we get our money back in tax cuts they'll spend every damn dime.

I want my money back. I earned it, they stole it and are using it to buy votes with.

They’ve had money so far this year to give every deadhead state employee from Tallulah to Sulphur a pay raise.

When do those who pay get it back?

Are you just learning that now? Like Chris Rock says, You don't pay taxes; they TAKE taxes. Or, if you prefer a more conservative voice, Ronald Reagan: The taxpayer - that's someone who works for the federal government but doesn't have to take the civil service examination.

Look, I feel your pain. I live in New Orleans and spend every day looking at the failed social experiments government has shoved down our throats and forced us to pay for. Any little step toward improvement makes me happy. I'm not going to hang my hat on one issue.

Jindall’s people were working the floor yesterday afternoon trying to kill the tax cut bill via amendment. I saw it with my own eyes. It’s that simple.

Republicans are supposed to be for tax cuts. At least they used to be.

I thought I’d lived under bad tax governance here in MA and NY, but you certainly have my sympathy in LA. I personally think governments at all levels should be about a third the size they are now, so I’m with you on tax cuts.

But I think Bush really hurt the Republican Party by increasing spending so radically in his administration. If I’m to understand Jindal’s position has been against the more moderate original tax cut because it wasn’t coupled with spending, but then his group backed the larger tax cuts, still without accompanying spending cuts, that was designed to defeat the more moderate cuts?

Yes, alas, it does sound like some serious politicking. I just hate being disillusioned over and over again by Republicans who talk the talk and then end up enlarging government when the get a chance. I was/am somehow still hoping for better from Jindal, but it doesn’t sound good.

Fax Weekly at http://www.lapolitics.com/index.php

“Backed into supporting a bill to cut up to $300 million in income taxes, Gov. Jindal told a Shreveport radio station he will sign the bill if it reaches his desk. But he wants the Legislature to make the budget cuts to keep it in balance.

On Tuesday, the Senate debates what has suddenly become the hottest bill of the session, SB 87, which would lower the income tax brackets to the levels before they were increased by the Stelly tax swap plan of 2002. The potentially severe fiscal impact of the bill caused the Jindal administration to oppose it in Revenue & Fiscal Affairs Committee on Monday. That stand caused Jindal to be blistered on conservative talk radio, where reversing the increases from the Stelly plan has been a cause celebre since it was enacted.”
