A gasoline moped gets great mileage anyway.

Let me tell you how great -- when I was in college back in 1973 I bought a used Solex moped, made in France. It's 49cc engine was .7 horsepower, but it would run 20 MPH on level ground. I carefully measured out a pint of fuel and drove 30 miles until it ran out. That is 240 MPG, for those that can't multiply. When I see modern scooters that can only claim 65 MPG, I wonder why? As a comparison, my Honda Civic gets 40+ on the highway.

If local and state governments would ease restrictions on mopeds and set aside exclusive road lanes for low-speed traffic, a lot of people would ride mopeds. Trying to ride bicycles or mopeds in normal urban streets is a death sentence.
