NEW ORLEANS (Reuters) - North Carolina's Republican Party on Thursday withdrew an advertisement critical of Democrat Barack Obama's links to a controversial preacher, Republican John McCain's campaign said.
McCain senior adviser Charlie Black said he had been informed by the Republican National Committee's representative in North Carolina, that the state party had agreed to withdraw the ad.
McCain, the Republicans' presumptive presidential nominee, had appealed to the state party to withdraw the ad, saying he wanted to run a respectful campaign.
Obama has come under fire for attending a Chicago church for two decades where the Rev. Jeremiah Wright was pastor. Wright has drawn criticism for statements including saying the U.S. government spread the AIDS virus to black Americans. He has since retired.
The 30-second ad in question attacked Democratic North Carolina gubernatorial candidates Beverly Perdue and Richard Moore for their endorsements of Obama, referring to the Illinois senator's "judgment" in supporting Wright and calling him "too extreme for North Carolina."
North Carolina is one of two states holding the next crucial Democratic primaries on May 6 in the tight race between Obama and Hillary Clinton to oppose McCain in the November presidential election.

Hey John, run a respectful campaign. But, when the opposition hands you ammunition that helps your case and is not a fabrication of the truth, then use it.

Maybe this is a strategy - he will run the ads, he won't. Everytime he announces a change, the ads get described in articles like this.
Free publicity!
Yeah, that's what he's doing...

I think it unconscionable for people to think that Obama’s justification of his relationship with the racist Rev. Wright is acceptable in a President of the United States. It is not acceptable, and it is not illegitimate or racist to point out the issue. It is precisely the anti-white racism that Obama is pandering to that is the problem.

Well, we can hope so, but given McStains past antics this is starting to look like the Dole '96 campaign. Can there be such a thing as a Rino Chicken? We may find out in Nov.

In any case, the ad will live on on youtube, and has already got huge national attention because McCain "objected" to it.

Well, it’ll be the LAST respectful campaign for about a century. If the republic even survives a century.
To: TornadoAlley3
Methinks this is some good cop bad cop strategery. McCain has to run an unconventional campaign to have a chance. He doesn't have, and will not have, the $$ that the 'rats and left will spend. As such, he is campaigning hard all over for free media, going into the opposition's lairs (Selma, union strongholds etc.) and actually winning some over.
As to this ad, had McCain not complained, the ad would not have gotten nearly the coverage it did, keeping the Wright issue alive (as it should be). It also fits with his bucking the party maverick image that had the presstitutes (probably regrettably now) making him acceptable to many 'rats. Lastly, with little funds, he is going to be hammered by leftist 527 hit jobs. Let's see if the great uniter Obama has as much "class" in condemning these ads.
In short, we all need to avoid knee jerk "there he goes again" reactions to his public stances (his comments on Katrina being the most recent). Hillary and her goons are going to do the dirty work for at least the next two months and I think that McCain's campaign has a game plan that will not give us red meat but will be fulfilling in the end. Heaven help us if they are not successful.....
