Fisherman’s Shoes Find Target

by: Malcolm A. Kline, April 24, 2008

Despite what you may have been lead to believe by the so-called mainstream media, the Pope delivered an address to Catholic college presidents that could be summarized as My Way or The Highway.

The Pope addressed the United Nations in an approach that longtime students of the UN might characterize as one of rapprochement. Nonetheless, his remarks to the college presidents, according to attendees at that meeting were, if not remonstrative, then at least reminders of the need to pass on actual Catholic teaching in universities that bear that designation.

For one thing, Pope Benedict XVI criticized “the endless pursuit of novelty in the guise of academic freedom,” according to Benedictine College president Stephen D. Minnis, who was at the meeting. “Public witness to the life of Christ should inform all aspects of university life,” was the message the Pope conveyed, according to Russell Shaw, also present at the conference.

Veteran journalist Shaw is a consultant to the Vatican’s Pontifical Council for Social Communication. The Pope “refuted the idea that the Catholic identity of a school consists of no more than the religious affiliation of its students and faculty and insisted that it must inform all that it does,” according to Shaw.

“Teachers and administrators have the duty and privilege to instruct students in Catholic dogma,” Shaw remembers of the Pontifical message. “The Pope was laying out an evangelical framework for Catholic colleges and universities,” Shaw pointed out.

“The choice for Catholic college presidents is between the Pope’s way and the way of American secular education.” ....

“Teachers and administrators have the duty and privilege to instruct students in Catholic dogma”

BXVI, you were long overdue. I admire your lack of PC.

“Remember, Fulton Sheen, who will be canonized this year, pointed out that of Christ’s followers, one betrayed Him, one denied Him and one doubted Him so he was only at 75 percent,” Davison notes. “I don’t know that we could expect much more than that.”

I just barely remember Fulton J. Sheen when he was on TV. I do remember his theatricality, though, because I'd seen a few snippets of his show as I was growing up, and I remember him turning and his cape flying behind him.

He was unapologetically Catholic, and we need more Bishops like him today!

Fulton Sheen is not even on the verge of canonization. I seriously question how genuinely knowledgeable about Catholic issues is someone who makes a misstatement as gross as this.

From Wikipedia

“In 2002, Sheen’s Cause for Canonization was officially opened, and so he is now referred to as a Servant of God.

Re-runs of Sheen’s various programs continue to be aired on the Eternal Word Television Network, introduced by Joseph Campanella. Re-runs are also aired on the Trinity Broadcasting Network. In addition to his television appearances, Archbishop Sheen can also be heard on Relevant Radio.

On February 2, 2008 the archives of Archbishop Sheen were sealed at a ceremony during a special Mass at the Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Immaculate Conception in Peoria, Illinois. The archive will be shipped to Rome to be used in the investigation that might result in beatification and subsequent canonization of Archbishop Sheen.”

Unfortunately, we are at such a level that it took the Pope to point out the obvious fact that “Gay and Lesbian Studies” and other such drivel are not true academic pursuits.

Thanks for the update. I knew that their were advocates for his canonization and that he hadn’t even been beatified yet.
