Volkswagen AG said Wednesday it has narrowed its list of states competing for a potential U.S. production facility to Alabama, Michigan and Tennessee.
The German automaker said it was still evaluating whether to build a new plant in the United States and would make a final decision this summer.
"We reviewed many excellent sites and the process to narrow down the locations was not an easy one. We look forward to continuing to work with the states of Alabama, Michigan and Tennessee as the evaluation moves forward," said Stefan Jacoby, Volkswagen Group of America's president and chief executive.

Still, it will come to the state that bribes VW the most. That's how we got Hyundai, Mercedes, Toyota and Honda (and we now have Kia building cars on the Georgia/Alabama line).
How can this be? We don’t manufacturing anything anymore, and the idea that a foreign firm wants to locate here to do so is a mirage.
A new car plant in Michigan...hahahah...that is good one. Maybe if they banned unions and lowered corporate tax rates...
Cool! I've never known anyone from there! I've heard the capital (Tirena?) is pretty. What language do y'all speak? Are there lots of Muslims there?
Oh. Alabama. Nevermind!
But seriously, it's got to be between y'all and Tennesee. Michigan is just, as they say, "column fodder" for the analysis spreadsheet.
GO ALABAMA!!!!!!!.............(except for SEC football!)...............
VW would be insane to build in Michigan. My guess they’re just wanting to placate Michigan officials until the final announcement.
Michigan? VW just moved their North American HO out of Michigan. Now they’re considering a plant here? Riiight.
LOL—Michigan is included on the spreadsheet because VW wants to calculate how much money it will save by locating in Alabama or Tennessee.
...one of my all-time favorite books.........
Roll Tide. (bump)
Go Alabama...........especially in football!!! Hope we get the VW plant....funny, people in Washington St and Kansas don’t think we’re a part of the USA....but Europeans evidently know better!!!!!
I hope you’re not bitter and clinging to your guns and Bible..........
Roll Tide, Roll......
Round the bowl and down the hole....*LOL*
Go Big Orange!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
we have one soon to be empty here in St.Paul (Ford)
hydro powered too!
Happy VW driver and proud UT student!
No income tax here...
Happy UT grad here...(daughters drive VW’s...)
Wish I could remember where it was,but I read an article a few years back that said that the Southeast will be the new vehicle manufacturing capital.Seems they were right.Lots of rail and river traffic in the Southeast.
Found it....http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0KXG/is_1_7/ai_n15653955
If Alabama gets the factory,I’m going to send some illegal mexicans over to do the work Alabaman’s won’t leave their front porch to do.
“...their North American HO...”
Man, this one’s rife for abuse.
Naturally I’d like VW to build cars here. Of course, that VW’s considering another US plant is due to the dollar’s low, and concensus prospects that it will stay that way. US-built VWs probably won’t be shipped to the German market, which would make it analogous to the Japanese automakers’ moves in the 1990s — build here, sell here.
LOL @ me!
You could be right. I live in Cullman and North Alabama is becoming a hub for auto sub-contract suppliers. There are some great flat sites in Limestone, Morgan and Madison counties. I don’t think Cullman has a suitable site large enough to accommodate, plus the Germans absolutely will not locate in a dry county lacking alcohol sales. But we might get some spin-off industry from it.
I just asked my boss; he didn't know. He said, “Well, Floridian, Virginian, Georgian...” I said, “What about Texas?” He said, “Texan. Oh yeah, no ‘I’ in it. I don't know.” I then asked, “So what do you call someone from Massachusetts?” His immediate reply, “Yankee!”
Anyway, I don't know why the “i”. Perhaps some enlightened soul can explain.
Down here in Central/South it’s the same. Between Hyundai in Montgomery and Kia in Westpoint (GA), I-85 is becoming the sub-contractor’s autoparts highway!
I'm just kidding you. No explanation necessary!
I have to admit, at first glance it looked like Albanian, but that's just my bad eyes. I should have listened to Dad, he warned me that might happen if I didn't quit...
There WAS such a thing as Texians once.
Michigan????? Is MI going to exempt VW from its closed shop laws? When was the last automobile factory built in MI?
Don’t have a gun - used to but never learned to shoot it - and yes, I do cling to my Bible.....too bad Barry O doesn’t not only cling to his but obviously read it since he seems to see nothing wrong with the “Rev”.....and believe me, I use that term very loosely....
