EL DORADO, Texas -- A 32-year-old Nevada man arrived at the courthouse here today to provide a DNA sample to Texas authorities determining paternity of children seized from the FLDS polygamous sect earlier this month.
David J. Williams said he is a former member of the Fundamentalist Ladder Day Saints and has three sons currently held in state custody in San Angelo. The boys -- Parley, 9; Jacob, 7; and Teral, 5 -- were among the 416 children rounded up when Texas law officers raided the sect's YFZ Ranch.
Williams, who left the FLDS three and a half years ago for reasons he would not discuss, called the raid -- triggered by claims of sexual abuse and under-age marriages on West Texas compound -- "an injustice" perpetrated by "unhonorable bastards."
Asked why he had driven 1,200 miles from his Nevada home -- he would not provide a specific town -- Williams countered: "What honorable father and parent would not give his all to protect the innocence of their children and family."
He insisted there is no abuse of children on the ranch. "These children are very much loved and cared for," Williams said, adding that he thought much of the reason for the raid was bias against the beliefs of the sect.
He brought with him a photo album of his children and wife, but he was noncommittal when asked if he intended to see custody of his boys.
"I call upon America to aid me in this effort for justice," Williams said.
Texas authorities this week have launched an effort to conduct DNA screenings of children, mothers and fathers to determine family ties.
Hey, where’s the ping to round up the usual suspects. ;-)
Glad to oblige Ping
Why is Texas doing DNA tests? Why don’t they just ask, “Who’s your daddy?”................
The stated reason for the raid was to protect underage girls from forced marriages. I don’t see where it would come down to a question of proving the paternity unless it was first proven that the mother was not of legal age when she got pregnant. If so, the 32 year old man better hope he’s not the father.
I wonder when he last saw his sons. Would they let him back in for visits?
Well if he is a FORMER member of the fundamentalist LADDER day saints, does that mean he is a current member of the fundamentalist LATTER day saints?
Where are the CURRENT male members of the FLDS lining up for their DNA tests?
Hey now! :-)
I wonder if his family has been re-assigned to another male member, since he is an apostate?
He may be in “repent from afar” mode.
Hoping to get back in.
Who wrote this? It’s full of mistakes: “Ladder” Day Saints, and “see” justice...?
And those aren’t the only mistakes. Here’s a glaring one: if Williams left, why didn’t he take his precious darlings with him? If not the wife[s] then at least his highly-cared about children...?
Wanna bet he was TOLD to high-tail it down here???
No, the STATED reason for the raid was to protect a single young lady who called for help.
Do they have any young ladies who are claiming that they were forced into marriage yet?
Ladder day Saints. I didn’t notice that.
Odd. It is after all from a paper in Utah!
They have fixed it at the site, but I just copied and pasted.
I had nothing to do with the ladder.
Who wrote this?
A highly respected and well educated journalism school graduate................
I knew it wasn’t you. — PING the usual posters —
I just wonder that the man doesn’t see how stupid it is that he left his kids three years ago and now he expects to be painted as their knight in armor, driving 1200 miles from a town he won’t name [why? got another few wives and puppies there, too?] to “see justice” done?
Fundamentalist Ladder Day Saints.........as opposed to the Fundamentalist Escalator Day Saints.............

Works for me.
Christopher SMART! Ph-Duh...
ROTFLMAO!!!
Or the dreaded Fundamentalist Elevator Day Saints!
Ah, a more apt name for folks trying to climb into the clouds as gods.
You said in your heart,
"I will ascend to heaven;
I will raise my throne
above the stars of God;
I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly,
on the utmost heights of the sacred mountain. [c]
I will ascend above the tops of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High." (Isaiah 14:13-14 sounds rather lofty until one realizes Isaiah is writing about Lucipher...see verses after that)
Asked why he had driven 1,200 miles from his Nevada home -- he would not provide a specific town -- Williams countered: "What honorable father and parent would not give his all to protect the innocence of their children and family."
Have all the rubber rooms completed their bed checks! They seem to be missing one nut.

Some might have to drive down from Canada:
‘Some of those that claimed to be of age when first removed from the YFZ Ranch have now been determined to be underage and in a twist, some may not have mothers in the Texas FLDS compound because they came from Canada.
When the children the Texas FLDS compound were removed because Child Services found that all children at the ranch were at risk for physical or sexual abuse which showed a “pervasive pattern and practice” of underage marriage, some claimed to be adults.
Since the children were removed from the Yearning for Zion Ranch, with some adult women voluntarily going to be with the younger children, Child Protective Services and attorneys have been working non stop to solidify actual birth dates, which has resulted in the knowledge that some of the girls that had previously claimed to be adults have now been correctly classified as juveniles.
As of now, with the corrects made, although not all the ages have been determined, so these numbers will fluctuate, the total number of children being reported as being in state care is at 437, which was previously reported as 416.
Texas state has placed at least five of those underage girls, those that are mothers already, with their children in foster care. CPS is making it clear that they will be keeping the teenage mothers with their children as they continue to find placement.
As for the adult mothers, Shari Pulliam who is a CPS spokeswoman says that there are no plans that, “involve placing (adult) mothers with their children.”
In Judge Barabara Walther’s response to attorney’s concerns about not keeping the adult mothers with their younger children, she highlighted CPS’ position by saying that, “the mothers had placed their children at risk for abuse in the FLDS setting.”
She continued, “The court has ruled the conditions those children were in were not safe for the children. I did not make the facts that got this case into the courts.” ‘

sorry about the burp .. .. ..
Bump-worthy!
The Salt Lake Tribune can’t spell “Latter”?
I have only heard of the one young girl. No other girls have come forward but it falls under the statutory laws. I think that we are on the same page of constitutionality and This is where the government is completly wrong. It is going to get worse before it gets better. But on a brighter note, at least they weren’t burned alive!
Well, let's see. You mention Canada (Bountiful I presume). The man of this article drove from Nevada. Others, I'm sure, will need to come from AZ & UT & other states.
(Maybe the next argument we'll hear from the fLDS is that this was just a long-distance "daycare"/"nightcare" camp)
Odd he would choose the word “bastard” to describe state officials removing his kids — no doubt born our of wedlock but as the result of a ‘spiritual’ union.
Listen, the state can’t just go in and take children without cause. Even if the phone call was bogus, they had to investigate it. You can stop trying to live in a world where people do only what the right things. It doesn’t exist and it won’t.
And that’s why we have agencies like CPS. They aren’t infallible but neither is this cult. They’ve been caught with their britches down.
I saw this guy interviewed on Fox earlier today. He was clearly highly scripted, bordering on brainwashed. He wouldn’t answer questions, just wanted to spout rhetoric.
you mean like in Waco? Wasn’t that “all for the children?”
In a perfect world the state would follow correct procedure according to the CONSTITUTION. Their original basis to investigate was based on accusations stemming from domestic violence. Their investigation should have been kept within the bounds of the perpetrators family that was involved, not the entire neighborhood. It is akin to my neighbor having the police come out for a domestic violence call and them noticing bruises on my other neighbors wife so he also gets arrested. Come to find out neighbor #2’s wife fell off a ladder while doing spring cleaning. The ends never justify the means when government is involved regardless of the intent and what they find! that is why our justice system is set up and arranged the way it is.
They have multiple pregnant minors, and some teens with multiple babies.
Thanks for the ping! :)
Why is Texas doing DNA tests? Why dont they just ask, Whos your daddy?................
Trust, but verify.
He may be in repent from afar mode.Hoping to get back in.
That's what it sounded like to me. He was on Fox News this morning. Very slow, carefully chosen words. Evasive when asked whether underage marriages are going on ("I'm not the proper spokesman for that. There is no abuse.").
Interestingly, Google returns 10,600 hits on "ladder day saints".The Synagogle of the Lord Roscoe of Ladder-Day Saints
Maybe they're related to the Seventh-Day Advent Hoppists, who believed in the literal truth of the bible. Unfortunately, theirs had a misprint: instead of "faith, hope, and charity" it said "faith, hop, and charity".
And his point it? He drives that far to determine paternity and is not sure he’ll try for custody? He won’t say where he lives? They’re 1,200 miles away from him and he knows they’re well cared for and loved?
Anyone with the IQ of an ice cube could see through this.
I’m not a Branch Davidian historian and I don’t play one on t.v. Your beef with government notwithstanding, why do you suppose we even have one? At all?
Are we going to grouse now over who gets to make up the rules, the good guys or the bad? Or are we going to grouse over who’s good and who’s bad?
If they’re intimate with children in the name of their faith, having children out of wedlock, sanctifying incestous relationships, I’m calling it bad.
If you want to call it good, I’d say you’re in the minority. At least for now. But I’m sure enough people will scream “None Ya!” to ensure future generations won’t get this intervention.
Red Dwarf ping...
This investigation was in the perpetrators family. With the incest and kid and wife swapping, this qualifies.
In a neighborhood, families live in separate houses, too.
And, yes, if the police are investigating a crime and find evidence laying out in the open of other criminal activity, they have the right to act on it.
So what procedures in the Constitution didn’t the STATE of Texas follow? What should they have done differently?
If we didn't have what we have now, or if it were overthrown, something would fill in the void. And from what I've seen of history, the something that fills in the void when a government falls is WAY worse that the government it replaced.
Perfect the US Government is not, BUT it is certainly far better and far more controlled than just about any other one I've seen.
I'll take this one with all its imperfections than any fill-in alternative. Actually, I'd like it to go back in time some 100 years or so, in the scope of its authority, as a start.
I’m with you all the way. And in some venues, it has gone back in time!
Instead of putting people in ‘stocks’ now, one local judge required, as part of her restitution. a mother who stole from the school district to keep a large sign in her front yard proclaiming, “I STOLE MONEY FROM OUR CHILDREN’S PTO!”
I forget how long, but one minute would be excruiating!
