Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin gave birth to a baby boy early Friday, becoming the second U.S. governor to have a baby while serving in office.
Palin's labour began Thursday, about a month early, while she was attending a Republican Governors' Association meeting in Grapevine, Texas, said spokeswoman Sharon Leighow.
Palin, 44, the first woman to serve as Alaska governor, delivered a keynote luncheon address on Alaska energy issues Thursday before flying back to Anchorage and delivering the baby Friday morning, exactly a month before her due date, Leighow said.
The baby, named Trig Paxson Van Palin, is the fifth child for Palin and her husband, Todd.

A little early. Nobody seems alarmed, so probably all are okay.

In other articles I read, this baby will face significant challenges.
Not sure what this means, so maybe a good strong name is needed.

Glad to hear Mom and baby Trig are doing fine.
(I hope he doesn’t grow to be an overly large child. The other kids will call him Trog.)

I read somewhere that little Trig has Downs Syndrome but it was an unconfirmed report. I’m sure he’ll be a special child and much loved, praise the Lord.

I read somewhere that little Trig has Downs Syndrome She is 44. The odds of Downs increase with age, so that is plausible.

The Palins have one other son; Track, 18, serving in the U.S. Army at Fort Wainwright in Fairbanks. They have three daughters; Bristol, 17, a high school junior; and Willow, 13 and Piper, 7.
She somehow managed to keep the pregnancy secret until seven months!

Governor's baby arrives early
KTUU.com
April 18, 2008 10:44 PM ET JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) - An unnamed source close to the family says Governor Palin's baby boy has Down syndrome. That's according to Anchorage TV station KTUU.
The governor's spokeswoman, Sharon Leighow, would neither confirm nor deny the report.
Leighow says Palin will talk with reporters early next week.
Palin gave birth this morning (Friday) to her fifth child a month before her due date.
Trig Paxson Van Palin weighed 6 pounds, 2 ounces. A news release from Palin's office says the 44-year-old governor and the baby are doing well and resting comfortably.
Down syndrome is caused by the presence of an extra chromosome. It results in mental retardation, a characteristic broad, flat face and small head and, often, serious heart defects.
Leighow says the name Trig is a Norse word meaning "true" and "brave victory."
And, she says, Paxson is an area that both Palin and her husband Todd feel is 1 of the most beautiful spots in Alaska.
Palin earlier joked about naming the baby Van Palin after the '80s rock group Van Halen.

A house divided against itself cannot stand so may they share the common denominator of the bounties of liberty, may the family count their blessings, may all rejoice on this new addition to their family, (fifth in a numeric series).

The name Trig is a Norse word meaning "true" and "brave victory," Leighow [spokesperson for Gov. Palin] said. Is somebody in the family of Scandinavian descent?
BTW, Trygve Lie, a Norwegian, was the first head of the UN.
"Trygve" and "Trig" are from the same root, which may be "tryggr".
Now that might be a cool name!
At least for a horse.
