WASHINGTON — The Senate on Thursday took the rare move of requesting a federal criminal investigation into an Alaska congressman's changes to a $10 million earmark in 2005, and Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and top Republicans endorsed an ethics committee investigation of how the language governing the pet project was altered.

In Congress, the default activity is theft.

Good. I hope this sets a precedent. It will make politicians consider their pork projects twice before they put in earmarks. Pelosi is actually playing into the Republicans hands on this one.

To hell with Pelosi and her phony ethics committee investigation, that SHE can control.

This needs to be criminally investigated.

She’s pitching a fit about the possibility of an external investigation...I wonder why.

This isn't unprecedented. Remember when Speaker Hastert whined about the FBI investigating the offices of Rep. William Jefferson?

As for Don Young... he's just another shining example of why we need congressional term limits.

1st item is to remove all of them & start fresh. Anyone caught as William Jefferson, (D) La should be given a kind execution with a lethal substance when the sun rises.

I am so glad the Senate didn't let anything small, like the US Constitution, get in the way of trying to toss Don Young overboard....

Harry Reid is SUCH a Richard.

The Executive Branch does not Investigate the Legislative Branch.

Or vice versa.

What are we coming to as a Nation when the Senate goes after the single vote of Alaska?

Don Young does not get this money all by himself, he has the help of about 434 other folks.....

Unless you take large amounts of money away from the congress critters and you throw some of them in jail or boot them out of Congress, nothing will change - this is simply election year politics, and once the spotlights are turned off in November, things will go back to business as usual.

The Congressman has already spend much more on legal fees than he has received in campaign contributions the past year. He’s not talking. Neither fact seems in character for a viable politician.
