McCain urged to flee from Log Cabin Republicans
One News Now ^ | 4/15/2008 | Jim Brown

Posted on 04/15/2008 12:21:05 PM PDT by fweingart

Conservative activist Peter LaBarbera is urging GOP presidential nominee John McCain to cancel his plans to meet with leaders of the homosexual activist group known as the Log Cabin Republicans.

Although Senator McCain (R-Arizona) did not address the Log Cabin Republicans convention in San Diego over the weekend, he did send California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger as his surrogate to address the event. CBS News chief political consultant Mark Ambinder, associate editor of TheAtlantic.com, reports that McCain plans to meet soon with executives of the Log Cabin Republicans.

LaBarbera, founder of the website Republicans for Family Values, says McCain should dump those plans. "I think this is significant. It was significant when George Bush ... met with the Log Cabin Federation before he became president -- and it doesn't surprise me that McCain is doing it. I think the danger is that when you try to be pro-homosexual and pro-family at the same time, it doesn't work," LaBarbera contends.

According to LaBarbera, McCain would be wise to distance himself from a group that "spews anti-Christian bigotry." That group's crusade in favor of homosexual "marriage," he argues, goes counter to the efforts of pro-family advocates who are fighting to protect marriage with constitutional amendments at the state and federal level.

"So, it becomes difficult for John McCain to say he's supporting efforts to protect marriage and also supporting the Log Cabin Republicans," LaBarbera points out. "I just think this is the problem with the 'big tent' [philosophy] in general in the Republican Party."

LaBarbera says he is not sure if McCain is seeking financial support from the Log Cabin Republicans or if he is expressing agreement with the group's ideology.

While meeting with the Log Cabin Republicans, Gov. Schwarzenegger pledged to oppose a proposed constitutional amendment banning homosexual "marriage" in the Golden State. "I think that [the marriage ban] will never happen in California," Schwarzenegger stated. "I will always be there to fight against that."

Before this is all over many of us will be gagging!

Acknowledging the Loggers seems to endorse their perverted and sinful style of 'making love.' Shoving one's pee-pee up anothers poo-poo is just wrong!

Let them roll their logs on over the the DNC....where they belong.

Heck I acknowledge them, but it doesn’t mean I support them.

He isn’t going in there to tell them he will support gay marriage or any of that other liberal stuff, he will say I hope you support me and I will be the best president I can and lower your taxes, not raise them when things are looking dim.

Log cabin republicans are fiscally conservative while being socially liberal. Hell, if people can’t understand that you fight for every vote from every group that is willing to put your name on a ballot then they know crap about presidential elections then.

One of my best friends among fellow freepers is an intelligent, pro-troops, pro-American, arch-conservative who is a joy to be around.

She’s also a lesbian.

People are who they are. I’m just grateful for anyone who supports the ideals of liberty and patriotism and personal responsibility, and I’m not going to shun them for what they do in private.

The very fact that they do what they do either in private or on a street corner is proof that in the final analysis they’re not wrapped too tight.

I’m not going to shun them for what they do in private.

It's not what they do in private that is the issue, even though God calls it a sin.

It is their focus, however, on mainstreaming their pervsion in our culture.

This is what they are constantly fighting for a little bit at a time.

Log cabin republicans are fiscally conservative while being socially liberal.

That's a big bunch of BS! They are a contradiction to each other and mutually exclusive. Being a "social liberal"(socialist) means supporting social programs that require big government spending. A person can't support big spending while at the same time take the conservative position to keep government spending in check.

This might be our chance to demand some things from them as well: Stop the recruiting of our young people and maybe we will listen to your grievances. Force them to make a statement on the subject. What they are against as well as what they are for. It will make headlines, guaranteed.

The problem is they are not keeping their lifestyle private. They have been for many years and still are actively forcing the immoral lifestyle of a minority on the majority by exposing children to it through public schools under the pretense it is normal. The homosexual movement is attempting to destroy the family. The majority is fed up it is being forced on them.

Then why would they vote Republican then, and be hated by their own kind? Jump over to the DUmp and see what they say about log cabin Republicans, they view them with more hatred than any other group of admitted Republicans, to them they are traitors.

If they want big brother and everything that comes with it plus they want all the social rights of the gays then they would never vote Republican. These people want better fiscal responsibility and to be left alone is all.

Oh yeah, he’ll fight for every vote except those of his base whom he continues to infuriate on a daily basis. I don’t have a problem with what homosexuals do in private either. It’s their public agenda I’m against. When gays speak against Christians they’re activists. When Christians speak against the homosexual agenda we’re bigots.

The Log Cabin boys are simply a Dem mole group in the GOP. They actively work to defeat conservative, pro-family Republicans.

They should be kicked out of the party.

“She’s also a lesbian.”

That's unusual.

I live in one of the most Gay-friendly areas in the US (Austin,TX.) and have many friends and acquaintances who are Gay. Most of them are left-leaners even, the older ones. Could just be most live in the People's Republic of Austin.

No they don't want to be left alone. They want to inflict their lifestyle on children through the public school system. Association with any pro homosexual group will be viewed by many in that vein. McCain needs to understand that fact before tying his candidacy to any homosexual group.

I have a friend I knew for years who finally came out of the closet, he is involved in the log cabin Republicans now.

We have talked about this many times, the gays that belong in this group are not the flaming in-your-face protester gays that are such an embarrassment to everyone, including them. They are the ones who admit they had a normal childhood, got through it okay and just want to be left alone.

They want their nieces and nephews to be raised like they were, or however their parents want them to be raised. They don’t want to pay high taxes and they want state’s rights to trump federal rights.

I don’t agree with all of his views, but we have more common ground when it comes to politics than not. McCaine isn’t going into S.F. to meet militant queers, he is going to meet employed businessmen and women who do keep it behind closed doors and want the rest of the idiots the press loves to focus on to do the same.

I appreciate your point of view, but if they really wanted to keep out of the public eye they wouldn’t set themselves apart and call themselves Log Cabin Republicans. Clearly, they have an agenda. It may differ from that of San Francisco gays but it is there nonetheless.

Fweingart said that gays and lesbians weren’t too bright. I gave a counterexample.

The point people seem to be making is that gays are out there lobbying for more government intrustion, less liberty, and so forth. My counterargument is that leftist gays are doing that, not all gays. Admittedly, most gays are leftists, but that’s not the problem of those who aren’t leftists. Conservative gays should be welcomed as allies and not held accountable for what leftist gays do.

I mean, Hillary Clinton and I are both white, but her socialist agenda is not my fault. Similarly, Barney Frank advocates unconstitutional socialist policies, but that’s not the fault of my freeper friend.

is a Republican and lesbian.

Some would be surprised how many current military serving in the war are gays and have to hide the fact.

Don’t agree with the life style but there is a lot worse

I don’t care what adults do in private as long as they keep it private. For starters, they need to quit with the parades. When’s the last time heterosexuals had a parade celebrating their straight lifestyle?

Right. So what exactly do you call gays who happen to be against government spending, abortion, united nations involvement, gun laws, and invasions of privacy?

Is one's stance on gay sex really the only conservative value that matters anymore?

I told my friend (who I have referred to a few times in this thread) about our discussion. She had this reply:

“You can inform them that I have NO INTENTION of ever marching in a Pride parade, and neither do any of my conservative lesbian friends. And also that I prefer their disgust and condemnation re: my sexual orientation to the left’s disgust re: my foreign policy/economic policy/stance on abortion/etc. any day, so I’m afraid they’re stuck with me.”

So there’s a perspective you don’t hear every day.
