Respect plants, say ethicists

PLANTS deserve respect, a group of Swiss experts says, arguing that killing them arbitrarily is morally wrong - except when it comes to saving humans or maybe picking petals off a daisy.
In a report on "the dignity of the creature in the plant world", the federal Ethics Committee on non-human Gene Technology condemned the decapitation of flowers without reason, among other sins.
Still, commission member Bernard Baertsche suggested the body weighed such cruel acts on a case by case basis, noting "the simple pleasure of picking the petals off a daisy might suffice as a reason".
Similarly "all action that involves plants in the aim to conserve the human species is morally justified,'' the commission, tasked to offer an ethical take on all areas of biotechnology and genetic engineering, said in its report.

That's exactly what I was going to say.
These “ethicists” are some of the most unethical monsters on the face of the earth.

The awful scene in one version of “Frankenstein” is thus parodized.
Not just one little girl shredded like the picking of a daisy, but tens of millions annually.

"he simple pleasure of picking the petals off a daisy might suffice as a reason" An ethical dilemma arises for campers when a strong and broad leaf is needed for personal hygiene. On the one hand using the leaf is utilitarian and not capricious. On the other hand.. Oh, he indignity!

No one has even mentioned air and water. How dare we breath and drink capriciously?
Sweetbay supermarket reminds us that shopping carts have feelings. How much more do air and water have sensitivities that are trammeled every moment of their lives.
Al Gore to the rescue. Teach us how to stop breathing and drinking, Al. We want to be sensitive to Gaea.

This is similar argument offered by (some) vegetarians why we shouldn’t eat animals. On philosophical ground, I don’t really see any difference.

Green plants = PHOTOSYNTHESIS
PHOTOSYNTHESIS -- a function or activity of green plants--is the production of sugar and pure oxygen from light, water, and air.

Tool (the band) did a weird song right along these lines.
It was called Disgustipated.
And the angel of the Lord came unto me,
snatching me up from my
place of slumber,
and took me on high,
and higher still until we
moved in the spaces betwixt the air itself.
and he bore me unto a
vast farmland of our own midwest,
and as we descended cries of
impending doom rose from the soil.
one thousand, nay, a million
voices full of fear.
and terror possessed me then.
and I begged,
“Angel of the Lord, what are these tortured screams?”
And the angel said unto me,
“These are the cries of the carrots,
the cries of the carrots.
You see, reverend Maynard, tomorrow is harvest day
and to them it is the holocaust.”
And I sprang from my slumber drenched in sweat
like the tears of one millions terrified brothers
and roared,
“Hear me now,
I have seen the light,
they have a consciousness,
they have a life,
they have a soul.
damn you!
let the rabbits wear glasses,
save our brothers...can I get an amen?
can I get a hallelujah? thank you, Jesus.

LOL!
This reminds me of the 1960’s? when there was a movement by fruitcakes, hippies, flower children (don’t recall who) that were trying to convince everyone that plants had nervous systems therefore they shouldn’t they killed or eaten because it was torture, or some such lame thing.
