Yep, I was there on Saturday! Most of those buildings are youth hostels. On just the other side of the tower there, on the ledge, you can get an amazing panoramic view of the city. On Sunday, I’m going back to Vilseck for two weeks for TDY, which is only 40 miles from Nuernberg. I plan on visiting the city some more (it’s 160 miles away from my home station, Darmstadt).

I still say one of the biggest disgraces of Bush’s Presidency has been his bowing down to China. They are the World’s largest totalitarian state, Trotsky’s dream come true, and IMO the most realistic threat to our nation’s long term survival. I can see the day, in a decade or two, where the US (or North American Union lol) and the EU battle China, Russia, and parts of Latin America in WW3.

Putting an "e" after is the correct way to do umlauts without using an international character set. It is an approximation of how it's pronounced, although not perfect.

To do it right: On a Windows machine either use Character Map application and copy/paste or learn the alt codes, Alt+0252 on the number pad gives you "ü" (that's the only code I remember). I know it's a pain in the butt, but we are talking about Windows here.

On a Mac there are shortcuts involving the Option key then the character you want that diacritical mark over, e.g., "ü" and "Ü" are done by hitting Option-U, then typing a "u" or "U" respectively.

If you do this a lot and don't want to have to remember anything on either platform, there's PopChar, a pretty nice little utility for Mac and Windows.

A bit off topic, but there is a similar app for Vietnamese (VPs Keys) that allows you type Vietnamese fairly quickly without using alt codes.

Thanks for sharing. Did you see the students up on that bridge in Cali today? lol They hung up big banners that said “FREE TIBET”. They got arrested but I believe the banners are still there.

You do realise taht most American don't know that München=Munich.

If you want fun spellings, try German to Polish or Ukranian.
Stettin --> Szczecin
Lemberg --> Lwów --> Lviv

Until I arrived in Europe, I was unaware of the alternate spellings around much of Europe.

It is very sad what is going on in Tibet. It is sad to see that essentially values are for sale. No matter if Europe, North America, even the Pacific Rim, no one really will take any action against the PRC. This regime allows itself to be used as the sweat shop of the wealthy first world nations, and too many with too much political influence are making billions on deals.

Chavez is a big mouth, Saudi Arabia is no real danger either (They know on which side their bread is buttered), but the PRC is a threat. The PRC has the potential to become the next major world menace, and we will have enabled them. We'll have enabled them while we looked the other way after Tienanmen Square, while they conduct forced abortions, have political prisoners, threaten Taiwan, censor media, restrict travel, that it's a one party communist regime, that they back North Korea, bottom feed on arms sales, backed the Khmer Rouge, or even acted against us in Vietnam......... For enough money people are willing to overlook a lot of things.
