Absolut-ely Ridiculous Rick Moran Take a look at this map that Absolut Vodka is using in its latest campaign in Mexico and the US:
Now I have an open mind about a lot of things. But somehow, giving California, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Oregon, and about 4 other states to Mexico because they don't like a treaty they signed after losing a war 160 years ago seems a little too much in the way of good neighborliness if you ask me.
The word is "reconquista." The open borders crowd tells us that this is a myth, that the issue of "returning" the American southwest and California to Mexico is a straw man set up by anti-immigration forces to scare the voters.
But as you can see, the idea is alive and well south of the border as well as in many Hispanic enclaves here in this country. And now Absolut Vodka has acknowledged the power of this idea by using it in an ad campaign in magazines, billboards, and posters.
I will not fall in to the trap of many open borders advocates and proclaim myself against all immigration from Mexico. I, and most rational people, oppose illegal immigration. Those who enter legally are generally more eager to assimilate, to leave the old country behind thus revealing reconquista the crackpot idea that it is.
Michelle Malkin has a roundup of links about this scandalous ad campaign.
I thought that Americans had become more sophisticated about 60's and 70's style Madison Ave. tricks, and brilliantly lampooned by Steve Martin in the 1979 movie, "The Jerk", in which Steve Martin's character only feels like a stud unless he has the bamboo umbrella in his drink, like he saw in a magazine.
But you all get in a huff about a vodka ad in English(the irony is priceless), that basically states that if you drink this vodka, the ad will come true.
Amazing how people can be manipulted.
Also BTW, Absolut is getting tons of free publicity with your alls help.
Your a one-trick pony Dane, frankly your continuous defense of illegals and the surrendering of our sovereign territory needs to be put to pasture.
EXACTLY. Won’t lose enough people to counteract the people they gain from this. They have a net gain over this thing. I’m a Ketel One man anyway. When our government is already pro amnesty why worry about a private company? Absolut doesn’t write the laws they just wanna cash in on a growing section of the marketplace.

You didn’t really expect a “search” did you. No one does that anymore.
Them too. However I am directly addressing Dane’s continuous addressing of people who are against illegal aliens as being racists and now his support of an ad, no matter what benefit it has by us being outraged on their sales, as being just a joke.
Don’t you ever get tired of being so tiresoms?
The fact is we're well aware of what Al-Queda represents but when a large company puts out ads like this it really makes you wonder what larger problems we as a country face. Note I have no problem with Hispanics at all--but they need to be here legally under OUR terms with the people that WE choose. If we need to allow more legal immigration I have no problem but this flood of illegal immigration coupled with free bennies and undue burdon on our healthcare system is outrageous.
Absolut? Absolutely out of the question. We’ll spend our money elsewhere.

Grupo Gallegos Creative Director Favio Ucedo, an Argentinian who emigrated here in 1990 is the slimebucket, pro-reconquista, brainchild of this ad.
As an aside Grupo Gallegos is an American Company located here in the good ol U.S. of A. (401 E. Ocean Blvd. 8th Floor Long Beach, CA. 90802 tel. 562-256-3600)
OMG, put him on the FBI 10 most wanted list, for making an English ad.
You guys seriously don't know how ridiculous you look.
Dunno Dane at all. I’m just pointing out that the one party has opted for amnesty and they’ll ram it through under cover of darkness or through a thousand smaller bills. Once they get a foot in the door it’s all over. It’ll probably be a health care or student tuition thing first...
What support of the ad? My comments are directed at you reactionaries who get yourselves all in a tizzy about a freaking vodka ad, while giving Absolut what they want most, free publicity.
Dane is partly right, for once. Getting upset over a vodka ad is pretty worthless.
It would be extraordinarily more effective if regular citizens would hold politicians publicly accountable. For instance, imagine if a better questioner had asked a better question in this case:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=tIK9ZawRMlg
Some sample questions are here:
HEY! WHY PAY SO MUCH ATTENTION TO THIS ___________ WHEN THIS ___________ IS SO MUCH WORSE!
I'm foolish enough to believe that just because one thing is considerably higher up the Richter Scale of Wrong than the other doesn't mean I should ignore the lesser of the two evils.
I can happily bitch about both. (and frequently do.)
Please, IOW, you will complain about anything especially the non-important.
“mex fuxico”
Abso-slut vodka.
So you suggest that you are the one who decides what we should complain about?
Dane! That sounds FASCIST! It's something a Hillary supporter would suggest!
*******************
Your concern is touching.

Well if drank enough Absolut vodka, the above would become your reality.
A company selling millions of dollars worth of product in the US that uses the money derived from here to promote anti-Americanism overseas is important, regardless of what you think. Most importantly, I will no longer purchase anymore Absolut. I wasn’t a big buyer but I did buy 4-5 handles a year of it previous. Re-conquista is indeed a movement in the US. We ignore it at our own peril.
Dane! That sounds FASCIST! It's something a Hillary supporter would suggest!
Is a vodka ad that much a threat to the Republic to you. If it is, then you are the fascist.
Fine, no problemo, by me, that's your right.
I'm just commenting about how a vodka ad seems to run your life.
How about an Absolut map of the Confederate States of America with the Capital in Richmond, VA?
-PJ
How about an Absolut map of the Confederate States of America with the Capital in Richmond, VA?
Write that to the Absolut marketing dept. You may get a royalty from them as I suspect michelle malkin did for this brouhaha.
Love that (especially South Texas) LOL
No, in your words.
In my words I'll complain about any damn thing I think is important regardless of how important or not I think it or whether Dane thinks it important or not.
Pretty simple equation really.
LOL Apparently being upset about people upset about a vodka ad seems to run your life. If spending 15 minutes posting here about it ‘runs’ my life then so be it. You are pretty pathetic.
So let me get this straight - you think too much attention is being paid to a vodka advertisement and so to address this absurdity you...start another FR thread about it?
Uh to your mass media leader, michelle malkin, the vodka ad seems to be a bigger threat than al-queda is.
Uh huh. I just think it’s funny as all git out that the guy who’s complaining about people making it a controversy starts yet another thread to complain about it being a controversy. What’s next, a “Don’t Look Here” billboard?
Uh I didn't start this, your media leader heroine michelle malkin did(and that's a fact), and now that it has basically backfired, you guys are scurrying in your little reactionary basement to change the subject.
Far be it from me to suppress the thing - I think this is the funniest thread I've read for a long time. I'm gonna BTT it.
Far be it from me to suppress the thing - I think this is the funniest thread I've read for a long time. I'm gonna BTT it
LOL!!!!!!! Yunz guys are so hillary like. Your heroine, micelee malkin, started this, and your repsonse is akin to what hillary would say about the controversy of her being named after Sir Edmund Hillary, in that hillary was born after the date of Sir Edmund Hillary's birthdate, and thus technically was named after Sir Edmund Hillary.
You guys are so funny, using your hillary tactics and all.
Is that the actual map from the ad?
Dane replied - Is a vodka ad that much a threat to the Republic to you. If it is, then you are the fascist.
So your argument dissolved into a prepubescent "I am not, you are!" While you watched "The Jerk" did you also watch "Pee Wee Herman?" That is so very sad and it really has no place here.
Dane, I stated that your Behavior Sounded fascist. I did not call you fascist. Yet you can't help but call me names. You ought to know by now that name calling is against FR's rules. Surely you recall being suspended in the past for such behavior.
Perhaps you would find the DU website more receptive to your behavior and ideas.
And as far as being "threatened" by an ad. Miller supported an obscene Gay Pride event and ran an ad mocking Christianity. Consumers boycotted the product. The bad publicity hurt the company. We live in a free society. We can inform companies when we don't like their ads.
Oh, I don’t think you could call it a Hillary tactic to help a feller make a fool out of himself. I just want you to explain why if we’re not supposed to be commenting on it you start a thread so we can comment on it?
Dane - Uh to your mass media leader, michelle malkin, the vodka ad seems to be a bigger threat than al-queda is.
Dane, are you suggesting that Michelle Malkin is forcing you to post articles about an ad campaign that's meaningless to you?
Perhaps you should take a break from the internet, for the good of everyone!
Story of your life.
Oh noes, he's back on the Hillary rhetoric. I think I preferred it when he was stuck on "The Jerk."
My guess is some form of OCD. However; I'm not a doctor and I don't play one on TV either.
Well, shoot. Here I am typing my little FReeper fingers to stumps trying to keep the thread alive and everybody takes off. This is (sob!) the thanks I get? I’m just trying to help out here. Really. BTT.
I’m here.
