Remembering Terri
3/31/08 | Self

Posted on 03/31/2008 5:34:53 AM PDT by Nextrush

It is time to again remember Terri Schiavo, who was a bit of a last straw for me and "faith" in political leaders (particularly Republican ones).

I remember back in 1984 when Ronald Reagan spoke out about the state of Nebraska and its restrictions on Christian schools and home schools.

Court injunctions were affecting church pastors, parents and in one case a church was even padlocked.

Fathers of some students were jailed on contempt of court.

A group of pastors were dragged out of a church by police.

Reagan spoke of the distrubing pictures of the pastors being dragged out.

He then spoke of his belief in the "separation of powers" but then urged that some resolution of the problem be achieved.

Reagan spoke before a crowd of thousands and said that.

Meanwhile, the federal Department of Education actually began an investigation of the situation in Nebraska.

Then Democrat Governor Bob Kerrey moved to create a commission that recommended freedom from restrictions for Christian and home schools in Nebraska.

And what did we get when Terri's life was on the line.

We got some legislation in Florida and Washington that courts overturned or ignored. Symbolism was employed instead of a concrete stand and or action.

In Washington no federal investigation of the hospice where Terri was starved to death.

In Florida the RINO's in the legislature stood aside and let Judge Greer have his way in the end. Governor Jeb Bush stood off to the side as well.

Trying wasn't good enough because it wasn't really trying. It was a symbolic fake.

We've come a long way since Ronald Reagan. The wrong way.

By the way a Day Of Remembance Mass is scheduled for this evening at St Patrick's Catholic Church in Largo, FL.

The location is 1507 Trotter Road and the time is 7pm.

RIP Terri, may God in Heaven continue to rest your soul and comfort and strengthen your parents...and may we as a people rise above the culture of death that slew you.

RIP Terri Schiavo. Hopefully her family has some comfort in knowing that they had tremendous support throughout this tragic ordeal.

And every day we hear of yet another coma victim waking up after months or years of being in the same vegetative state she was in. Like the young man last week, who was about to be cut open to harvest his organs, and he woke up. He could hear them talking about taking his organs and he thought he better TRY to wake up.

She was murdered. An intentional murder. Prayers for Terri and her true family.

Terri Shiavo’s death is considered a victory for liberals. They still think she died in a state of euphoria, as they were told starvation resulted in. In fact she died gasping for air, not sleeping peacefully but awake, not allowed to drink a drop of water for 13 days under armed guard. It’s the disimformation that I don’t like so much, now.

I don’t have to pray for Terri anymore, since she can now touch the face of God. :*)

I do however keep her parents and siblings and family members and friends in my prayers as they continue to grieve over this young woman’s murder by those in authority. :*(

God help our country if euthanasia ever becomes commonplace. *sigh*

Listening to “Bridge Over Troubled Water” right now.

How appropriate.

Her killer walks free, and in Nebraska, it’s starting all over again: “State Sen. DiAnna Schimek of Lincoln has proposed a bill to recast Nebraska’s generally loose regulations over home-school students.

Her bill would require home-school students to take state-mandated tests or have their schoolwork assessed by an outside evaluator. If students’ progress falls short academically, they would be sent to public or private schools.” -http://www.redorbit.com/news/education/1266717/homeschool_pitch_pits_personal_choice_vs_government_role/

By the way, DiAnna Schimek was there in the 80s when this went down. She’s still “fighting the good fight” and longing for the good ol’ days. I guess the masses also long for the good ol’ days, or why would they keep voting this comrade back into office?

A couple of comments about Schiavo:

1. Shame on Bill Frist for insisting that Schiavo was merely in need of therapy, when, in fact, her brain was pretty much gone. She had a lot of people (including me) hoping for a rescue, when, in fact, a rescue would have made her no better than she was pre-mortem; she would never have woken up like that young man whose organs were almost “harvested”.

2. Laws that make a spouse automatically next-of-kin EVEN WHEN THE PARENTS ARE STILL ALIVE AND WELL should be revoked. Marital relations are tenuous, and spouses often have nefarious intent towards each other (AFAIK Terri’s husband is in the same class as OJ, Robert Blake and Claus von Bulow) but parents almost never have nefarious intent towards their adult children. Thus, parents should remain primary next of kin for their adult children, *married or not*, unless said adult child insists otherwise. Before either one of my children marry, my wife and I will have them sign papers us their next of kin (over their husband) in case (heaven forbid) they are incapacitated.

No doubt she’s well supported by the union as in the “education association.”

Or it’s better than that. Want to feel your blood boil? Try this on for size; her husband is a lobbyist for the state teacher’s union! And here’s another typical politician’s lie: she casually dismissed the connection saying that it did not influence her decision to introduce the bill. B.S.?

Agreed! What made me so angry about the whole thing, was the fact that her family loved and wanted to take care of her. That in itself should have trumped any and all outside interference. If something were to incapacitate my son or daughter, and I wanted to lovingly care for them, no mortal person would stop me. And, lest any of the pro-death crowd show up here, no, I am not a martyr, just a regular human being with a heart.

No, they don't. They know full well how she died. But they don't care. Being the party of death, it was a victory for them. A victory of death.

Guess you weren't following the case that closely. SHE WASN'T ASLEEP! SHE WAS NOT IN A COMA WITH HER EYES CLOSED. Her eyes were open when she wasn't sleeping. And she did respond, although in a limited way - and would have improved with some therapy, but her philandering husband denied her that. Instead of turning over her care to her parents, which is what they wanted all along, he engaged in a power play with them. He had all the legal death hawks on his side - and it was a fight to the death. Her death. Legally sanctioned murder from all the high courts.

Half her brain was liquid (according to the autopsy). Nothing could have helped her improve. Frist's drive-by diagnosis was ill-advised. Having said that, I still believe her ex-husband is a low-rent Claus von Bulow. Moreover, the law in this case (to paraphrase Dickens) was indeed an ass. Parental involvement in the care of incapacitated adult children should not end with the child's marriage. Such laws date from a time when lifespans were short, and parents often did not live to see their children marry.

Yes, this is what I want when someone is posed to kill me, people making grand statements and sitting by and sighing as I die a slow death.
