We need to listen," John McCain was saying, "to the views
of our democratic allies." Then, though the words weren't in the script, the Arizona senator repeated himself, as if in self-admonishment: "We need to listen." A lot of meaning was packed into that twice-said line, which was a key theme of McCain's first major foreign-policy speech since becoming the GOP's nominee-apparent. McCain was telling America, and the whole world: if I'm elected there will be, at long last, a return to what Jefferson called "a decent respect to the opinions of mankind." There will be no more ill-justified lurches into war, no more unilateralism, no more George W. Bush. Above all, McCain seemed to be saying that while Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama tear each other to pieces, I'm going to be the wise and welcoming statesman patching up America's global relations even before I get to the Oval Office. Not surprisingly, after the speech last week at the Los Angeles World Affairs Council, McCain's campaign could not talk enough about international cooperationwhat McCain had called a "new compact." "He has such a deep relationship with so many Europeans and those in other regions, including Asia and the Middle East," said one adviser, Rich Williamson, who added that McCain has kept up his global profile by "going each year to the Munich Security Conference."

And to think that this feckless old fart may be President this time next year..
“There’s just one problem: John McCain doesn’t always behave according to his own statesmanlike script. In fact, while attending that same Munich conference in 2006, the Arizona senator had another one of what have come to be known as McCain Moments.”
Gee, when Juan McCain does this to Conservatives he is called a Maverick.
Let the beatings begin by the MSM on Juan McCain.
Well if Ms. Clinton would only move a little to her right, she would be more conservative than Juan McCain and I could vote for her.
These are similar words of another John that ran for Pres. His name was John Kerry.
I like this. I want a President who doesn't put up with this Euro weenie crap. Germany one of our most important allies? Ha. Maybe they can show us some of this "support"?
Either way,I hope to complete work on my secret bunker before 2009.
I guess it's just me, but I don't have a problem with this. In fact, I'm laughing.
Its all so weird. In 2004, we were all flaming Jon Cary for what he said.
Now, In 2008, we are embracing it under the guise of McCain “The Weiner The World Awaited”.
My, My.
Global test nonsense.
“And to think that this feckless old fart may be President this time next year.”
Get over it. It’s not a perfect world and he’s the best you can hope for.
Well I certainly hope so.
Maybe he will have a blowout and then NOT be President the year after next.
It’s amazing. One party’s nominee is determined to lose the war on terrorism and nationalize the health care industry. The other party’s nominee wants implement the Kyoto protocols, leave our borders unsecured and bring terrorist detainees to the U.S. after closing Gitmo.
Whether it’s Clinton, Obama or McCain, America’s economy and national security will badly compromised.
Got room for one more in that bunker? :)
We have to come back in 2012 or 2016; and it won't necessarily be through the Republcan Party.
Read later
“Get over it. Its not a perfect world and hes the best you can hope for.”
There it is. The reason we’re in this mess! The founding fathers should have just stayed under British rule, afterall that was the the best they could hope for....right?
You should be a little tired of settling for the lesser of the evils or perhaps McCain is right up your alley.....
“Well if Ms. Clinton would only move a little to her right, she would be more conservative than Juan McCain”
Funny thing about that is, it wouldn’t take much!
“Let the beatings begin by the MSM on Juan McCain.”
And pass the popcorn.
“I want a President who doesn’t put up with this Euro weenie crap.”
Third Party?
Its all so weird. In 2004, we were all flaming Jon Cary for what he said.
Now, In 2008, we are embracing it under the guise of McCain
But...but this is different. McBackstabber has an R after his name FGS!
“Get over it. Its not a perfect world and hes the best you can hope for.”
Then this nation is well and truly f****d.
Its amazing. One partys nominee is determined to lose the war on terrorism and nationalize the health care industry. The other partys nominee wants implement the Kyoto protocols, leave our borders unsecured and bring terrorist detainees to the U.S. after closing Gitmo.
Actually you just described BOTH parties’ nominees quite nicely. One party rule sure is magnificent!
Are you sure? Perhaps Hitlary would be better - at least, if she is elected, the senete will filibuster her every time she says “Good morning.”
I shudder to think what the socialist McLame will get away with.
That "R" says it all. Truth is, I wouldn't be at all surprised to see the guy put Hillary on his ticket.
What would be really repulsive is to see the people that would all at once declare her a conservative.
Well you know, McCain likes her.
BTTT, AuntB. You got it!
Sorry Juan,.... there are no such people.
The more John McCain speaks the more convinced I become that I cannot vote for him. He should just sit down and shut up.
The only question is how to spell it, Rhinocrats or Demohinos?
Do you and the other posters on this thread agree with the above (excerpt)?
It was taken from an article written by Michael Hirsh of Newsweek. The same Michael Hirsh that penned the article on John McCain
stockpirate omitted the author in his posting.
I for one would never believe anything espoused by Newsweeek or Michael Hirsh, even to use to bash John McCain.
Using the word "BEST" in any comment regarding McCain is an abuse of the language.
It would be more correct to say he might not be quite as bad as the other two.
Scum Rises - The End Is Near For America
Yeah, but he's a Republican, see, so that makes it not as bad as having the opposition party screw the pooch. /sarcasm
Good point! I can imagine DugwayDuke's statement as having been the motto of the Colonial Tory Loyalists about King George III:
He'll get away with everything. The RATs will love him for always "reaching out" to them. The Republicans will be disinclined to go against the head of their party.
But the problem with that is, then Republicans get blamed for the coming economic/International mess. In the aftermath, we would be lucky to get another real Conservative elected for any office for decades, if even that soon.
We would be much better off, letting them have it, then start planning to take it back in 2010 from the Legislature up.
Not to mention McCain's first nomination to the Supreme Court!
So...I should vote for the socialist who would “unite us”, or the socialist who will get fillibustered?
Hmmmmmm.....
with kudos to Krauthammer.........Think a friendly nation alternative to the UN.
“You should be a little tired of settling for the lesser of the evils or perhaps McCain is right up your alley.....”
Life is full of selecting from the ‘lesser of two evils’. It’s time ‘principled conservatives’ realize that and get over it.
It would be nice if he listened to "quote conservatives" once in a while...
“Are you sure? Perhaps Hitlary would be better - at least, if she is elected, the senete will filibuster her every time she says Good morning.”
And what is to prevent the senate from filibustering McCain?
The sooner the quicker. It seems to me the last real chance to avert the disaster would be at the Republican Convention. Maybe if enough serious folks get the picture, someone not quite so disastrous could be put forth. But a Republican who is outspoken in his rejection of the global warming agenda; rejection of Federal meddling and use of tax funds in moral issues like homosexuality and abortion; rejection of Federal give-aways that entice illegal immigration; rejection of tax increases and national health care in concept and principle -- to cite just a few examples of Liberal Creep ... which Republican would that be? The so-called "serious" ones are all for Federal global warming regulation, Federal or at least State health care legislation, and endless Federal oversight to "solve" market, education, and social problems.
Where and who is the Republican who rejects all that crap like I do and, I believe, that a whole lot of average level-headed Amerians do? I think there's a chance that such a Republican presidential candidate could be electrifying enough to jolt many into voting Republican for the first time.
No guts, no glory. Draggling along with Wacko McCain or opting for a younger version of the same Big Daddy Government mentality, is suicidal for the Republican party and hence, America. People need to get the picture.
Stockpirate appears close to voting for Hillary. Just a teenie-weenie "little" move to the right by Hillary will get him to pull the lever for her.
Unbelievable.
Oh yeah, in the thpirit of bipartithanthip.
Yikes. The guy would do that. I just know it.
No, you will probably vote for a Lame Duck who will be over ruled even his veto powers if he tries to show Conservative restraint.
You say he will keep us in the war? Not a chance, after the Democrat majority defunds the war and our troops are forced to come home like they did in Vietnam. And McLame will be powerless to veto much of anything with the coming Democrat super majority.
Besides, McLame will side with the Democrats, his “Friends and colleagues”.
OH yes, you have got it right. No way will the Dummiecrats allow McCain to fund this war with their help. They will chop him off at the knees.
Believe it, this will happen if McCain wins.
