It use to be taught in the US ARMY that if there is time to throw yourself on a grenade, there is time to throw it away. I was also told this by people with combat experience.I would suggest that they put this theory to the test with practice grenades and fuses that have the same time limitations as the real thing, the reason it is not taught in the US Army any more is that picking up a grenade to throw it away can increase the grenade's kill zone.

I’ve met guys who joined because a juvenile court judge advised them to join. This guy has those qualities, don’t you think?

It won’t be the part that Hillary is in. Of that we can be certain.

Could be. No way of knowing though. I really do not think there are that many of that type though.

You do realize, I hope, that that comment was made by Fractal Trader earlier in this thread and that I excerpted it so I could respond to it with the observation regarding Cpl. Dunham.
Note to myself: never again excerpt someone else’s moronic comments for the purpose of responding to them.
sheesh!
To: Fractal Trader
The Medal of Honor isn’t about you.
To: Fractal Trader
My FRiend if you have ever had a grenade lobbed in your direction (I have) you would never EVER forget.
In nearby Chicago there is a very nice lakefront park named for Milton Olive (USMC).

There others known and unknown.
May their total devotion to their buddies never be forgotten.

Some may think that falling on a grenade is heroic, but it just doesnt impress me that much. The stupidity of that statement says you are beyond hope.

Clearly he had the glow that day.
Protecting an f'in reporter to boot.
And I am very glad he came out alive. Many MOH recipients do not.
Go Army.

I’ll lay odds that you were a Reservist Supply Officer in the Air Force who pulled duty at a UN building. It is evident that you certainly didn’t spend a single hour in the mud with the fighting men on the front lines.

I'm sorry, but that is a very dumb comment, ranking right up there with one of my coworkers who commented yesterday that he thinks guarding the Tomb of the Unknowns is a monumental waste of manpower. You and he wouldn't recognize sacrifice if it walked up and shook your hand.
Besides which, two of the Medals of Honor so far awarded for service in the War on Terror have been given for actions in which the person receiving them was killed by small-arms fire. SFC Paul R. Smith was killed by a gunshot wound to the neck as he manned a .50cal machine gun in an effort to prevent several hundred Iraqi soldiers from overrunning a number of 3rd Infantry Division support units during the Battle of Baghdad. And Lt Michael Murphy was mortally wounded by multiple gunshots as he moved out into the open to call for a helicopter extraction for his four-man SEAL Team after they came under attack by 150-200 Taliban fighters in the mountains of Afghanistan.
