Dobson editing radio show to avoid 'hate crimes' laws
WND ^ | 28 March 08 | Bob Unruh

"Hate crimes" laws were defeated in Congress just a few months ago. Just a few weeks ago, Frank Wright of the National Religious Broadcasters Association warned, "We must be one in Christ to face the days ahead" because "hate crimes" laws would create untold new liability for Christians.

Now a major Christian ministry has confirmed that such "hate crimes" laws already are setting limits on what it can broadcast.

The issue is "hate crimes" laws in Canada, and they are affecting U.S. Christian ministries that broadcast into that nation.

WND reported just a week ago on a Christian ministry based in Canada that essentially was ordered shut down under that nation's "hate crimes" laws which prevent Christians from expressing Biblical opinions on a wide range of issues.

So what used to be called MacGregor Ministries with offerings in how to recognize and eliminate "faulty fads" in Christian churches has been re-created in the United States, and now operates under the name MM Outreach Media Ministries, according to spokeswoman Lorri MacGregor.

"Canada has very strong hate laws," she told WND.

From the article:

"When a group such as Jehovah's Witnesses said of our doctrine we're worshipping a freakish three-headed God (the Trinity), we should be able to respond," she said. "We say, 'Here's the doctrine of the Trinity and here is where it is in the Scripture.'"

That, however, violates Canada's hate crimes laws, and the ministry was ordered to either make wholesale changes in its presentations, or shut down.

"There was nothing we could do that would please them," she said. "They wanted us every time we criticized something to say, 'So Christianity is equal to Buddhism, Islam, Mormonism, Jehovah's Witnesses… Just decide for yourself.'"

Many years ago, I read about the insanity that was going on in Communist countries. I used to say to myself "That kind of repression can never happen in the West."

How wrong I was.

We’re undoubtedly headed into storm clouds down the road.

If we don’t nip this in the bud and destroy the root organizations that are implementing this, it will destroy more than the religious.

Canada has effectively outlawed public expressions of Christianity. This has always been the goal of leftists.

"How wrong I was."

Seems as though the world has gone upside down, doesn't it?

As Canada ever more rapidly spirals into the Fascist abyss, and as its oil becomes ever more valuable to us, we will finally have to bite the bullet and return the European colonialists to their homes, and secure the land for our own use.

You just can't let a place like that go to waste, and we certainly don't want it to become a danger to us.

If Oscar Wilde came back today, he would be E.U. President. This is a world gone mad.

“Canada has very strong hate laws,”

Yes, they have very strong laws to exhibit their hate of Christians.. America is heading down that same path.

Does freedom of speech not exist in Canada and, if not, why?

Their hate crime law just stomps all over out first amendment.

* Of course our first amendment usually only apples to liberals....or so it seems.

Preaching God’s word is being out-lawed. Remember your early teaching. It was coming.

I think Oscar Wilde would have been on our side (meaning that gay behavior is problematic for individuals and for the commonweal) had he lived longer. It’s my understanding that he saw things differently at the end of his life. He was not the unreprentant poster boy for the gay lifestyle that so many think he was! A biography of Wilde by Pearse (sp?) speaks to this topic.
All the best as we soldier on...

Very good points. I realized my Oscar Wilde comment was DOA as soon as I posted it.

Me thinks Dobson might be selling out.

Why is he worried about broadcasting on the airwaves with Internet streaming being so prevalent?

Is Canada blocking WWW access? If not perhaps Donson is more interested in revenue from radio outlets than the truth.

We must not give up....or even bend for that matter.

It is understandable that someone would attempt to protect their property, but there is a line at which the state presumes to step over into God’s territory.

Free speech is a God-given right. It is not subject to the whim of passing governments.

Additionally, it simply is not true that laying out differences is hateful. It is helpful.

Is it hateful to say that the Hindu religion is false? Nope. By pointing out the areas of falsity, one is providing a choice. The Hindu advocates certainly have their opportunity to counter the charges.

There's nothing like the US-ian Bill 'o Rights, is my understanding.

one has to wonder.

He does mix a lot of secular pseudo science in with biblical truth. More and more each year.

I don’t know why people don’t realize what a dangerous thing that is. Maybe not immediately, but down the road, when you get used to it, and can’t let it go... and so it compromises you.

I’ve lost much trust in Dobson over the past few years, as his organization has embraced too much false teaching.

Regarding Canada; I read recently of a Christian ministry up there that surrendered its charitable tax status rather than stop proclaiming Truth.

In the good-ol US of A, the time is coming when churches will have to choose between Truth and 503(c) status.

Events like this are really chilling.

It illustrates the fact that "1984" is already in the past.

They really think they've hit upon a great method of silencing the pulpit. Can you imagine what God has in store for them?

If you listen to right-wing talk radio as much as I do, you will realize that we are already silenced. They NEVER mention the homosexual agenda, even when there are blaring examples in the MSM.

I’m thinking this will hit the megachurches pretty hard... won’t it?

Haven’t we seen over the years various groups here on FR lobbying for the elimination of what they call hate posting? The recent row when Romney was a viable candidate comes to mind, though it is not the only example. It makes me wonder if these various groups realize what path they are wandering down. And, it makes me wonder if they realize that they are working the “leftist” agenda.

And, this is why I take a very free position on such things.

Amen. Generally, we’re most vulnerable not to things we know, but to things we don’t know.
