It's hard to imagine how Detroit's liberal populace can charge hip-hop Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick for perjury. After all, doesn't everyone lie about sex?
I'm not certain that Kilpatrick should be charged or convicted either. Those of us who live in cities like Detroit or Los Angeles accepted that kind of political double standard long ago.
Detroit clearly needs to loosen up a little -- maybe create its own ethics commission. That's what works for us.
In LA, our Ethics Commission makes it unnecessary for police to investigate messy corruption scandals or other embarrassing felonies. Our Commission would issue a warning and a fine to Kilpatrick faster than Hillary could tell Sandy Berger to take the archives out of his socks and join her campaign committee.
Equal Protection is one of the pillars of Democracy. After King John published the...

Yep, sure looks like! :-)
Now that Christine Betty has been split from the Mayor, I hear a very loud canary coming on, singing strong and long.
Would expect that there may be other charges down the road perhaps involving city attorneys or attorneys that worked on the settlement case as they essentially pulled the wool over the city council's eyes by concealing perjury in the documents. Prosecutor Worthy made it clear the investigation will continue.
The truth is that much of the minority community actively applauds lawbreaking by its own, as a way of defying Whitey’s laws.
Ridin' dirty!
I have been listening to Mildred Gaddies over on 1200am Detroit.
She keeps dropping hints. Major Corp involved in corruption, Questioning the preachers standing behind the major. One caller calls in saying her Reverend tipped his hat, that the Mayor paved the street in front of the Church. And then their is the Mayors house in FLA, where did he get the $ and who wrote the loan? Combine that with Ms. Worthy taking to the Federal Prosecutor, one can only speculate as to how many more shoes are to drop.
My gut feel is more shoes will drop than Imelda Marco's has in her closet.....
Kwame is just finishing the job that Coleman Young started years ago, murdering a city.

If you would like to be added or dropped from the Michigan ping list, please freepmail me.

Bwahahahahahahahha!!!!!!
:’D Thanks grellis.
Now that Christine Betty has been split from the Mayor,
Did you mean ‘split by the mayor’?
Funny, he doesn’t look Irish.
Being a relatively bright, based on other reports about her, she'll "cop a plea" in a heart beat, IMHO.
Getting more popcorn this afternoon.
Yeah, but Beatty is "just happening to be" using the same attorney, Mayer Morganroth.
Maybe Mayer gets paid well as Kwame's attorney, so he then gives Christine a massive break.
Talk about your conflict of interests! Do some FR legal minds have any opinions whether that is / should be allowed?
Unfortunately, Christine Beatty has NOT been split from the mayor. They are still represented by the same attorney.
Until someone loosens the grip Morganroth has on representation of Beatty in the criminal case and representation of Kwame in the Tamara Greene case, there is no chance of a canary singing.
It's a clear conflict of interest that the trollish, power-hungry Morganroth refuses to acknowledge.
Kym Worthy has been publicly signalling that she's ready to talk to Beatty. But how can there be any meaningful negotiations for Beatty to testify against Kwame when the same attorney represents both?
This is so unethical. And Beatty is probably scared to death to fire this credentialed troll.
But seriously, we know that Christine Beatty sharing the same attorney defies common sense - unless, as I alluded, there could be a money angle involved. (And even then, she could be saving a lot of money so she can spend more time in prison.)
But does it defy the "rules" of the Michigan board of lawyers? If so, to what form of enforcement? And does it violate any statute?
(I'm trying to figure out if there's any way to crowbar off Beatty from Kilpatrick, for the sake of justice....)
Ridin’ Dirty - it’s not just for bubba xlinton anymore.
Yeah! I saw the 11 seconds!
There is always one solution to a conflict of interests. The client can waive. The attorney explains the potential conflict to the client (or in this case, clients), and then the attorney gets a written acknowledgement that the client understands the conflict and waives any potential problems.
What’s infuriating here is that Morganroth won’t even acknowledge that there is a conflict of interests! Even lay people can see this! Read the comments in the Detroit Free Press. This is a no-brainer.
I wish Stokes had followed up on this in his interview with Kym Worthy (which will be aired on WXYZ tomorrow). I mean, how often do you see a prosecutor go on the record and note the potential conflict in open court? In my mind, that’s a pretty clear signal that they want to talk to Beatty.
It’s hard out there for a pimp.
When the story first broke a couple weeks ago O'Reilly showed a tape of Kwame throwing high fives at his homies while sporting a baseball cap on sideways and a huge hooded sweatshirt and said "yes ladies and gentleman, that's the mayor."
