They are crimes some say are becoming all too common: shootings on college campuses. Just Thursday in Texas police say a gunman shot 2 students near an offcampus dorm. Now, a new group popping up at schools across the country says it wants to take action and prevent these tragedies.
The group is called "Students for Concealed Carry on Campus" or SCCC.
You can find members at over 200 colleges, including the University of Nebraska and Hastings College.
As their numbers continue to grow, they hope to convince state lawmakers that change is needed and that concealed weapons should be allowed on a college campus.
From Virginia Tech to Northern Illinois, over the past year, college campuses have seen their fair share of violence.
"We have had more gun deaths on college campuses in the last year than we did in the last 50 years," said Ron Chesbrough, Hastings College.
For Hastings College Sophomore Jamie Brisbin, this has been a call to action.
"On a college campus, there is no line of defense for something like that," said Brisbin. "I can think of 31 of my friends on this campus being shot and me sitting there watching it and having no way to defend myself, to defend them."
Jamie has became the Hastings College campus leader for SCCC.
"I do not think college campuses are any different from say the mall or any other place people are allowed to carry concealed weapons," said Brisbin.
The state law banning concealed weapons on campus does not affect a private school like Hastings College. However, the school still has a ban.
"To our great peril would we not follow the lead of the legislature and the larger institutions in this state," said Chesbrough.
The 23,000 members of SCCC want concealed carry at public and private colleges. Hastings College, however, does not plan to change anytime soon.
"At this point we are following the lead of the state and if and when the legislature changes that law, we will be in the position of having to review our own policiesm," said Chesbrough.
"I think the more this occurs, I think people are going to start think, 'hey, this could happen here, how am I going to stop this?'" said Brisbin.
Nebraska is one of 29 states that expressly prohibit concealed weapons on college campuses.
As a protest, members of the SCCC will be wearing empty holsters to their classes during the week of April 21st.
That is a week after the one year anniversary of the Virginia Tech shootings.
Campuses debate gun control issues
There were only "111 universities and colleges represented" in SCCC five months ago.
They had the first ‘empty holster’ day in october and they had thousands...massively pissing off college administrations who demand obedience but consider themselves not acountable for the deaths that occur.
Campus administrators consider themselves to be independent, semi-autonomous states, to which the normal rule of law does not apply.
In other words, they get to make their own rules and apply them as they want to.
In other words, they get to make their own rules and apply them as they want to.
Actually, they follow the law of supply and demand:
They supply the grades and diploma and demand that you follow their rules in order to get them.
Our’s use the campus cops as free transportation to meetings. Too lazy to drive themselves. I guess the campus is well protected and they need the personal protection.

Also, the following link tells of a campus gun incident where students with locked guns in their vehicles where able to disarm a renegade student before police arrived at the scene.
