Once content to thump drums and dig deep for chants that rhyme, the peace movements foothold on the public soapbox has slipped. The peaceniks -- ANSWER, MoveOn.org, Code Pink and the rest -- are in the midst of very public identity crisis. They are facing, for the first time, visible and vocal opposition to both their words and their methods. And it has made them angry
.very angry
.angry enough to (pause for dramatic effect) use violence as an option!

What they fail to realize is that our side is better armed. We need a few CCW holders to show up at these rallies with sidearms: the hippie freaks may think twice about assaulting an armed citizen to make a treasonous political point.
they don’t care a damn about peace. They want to be on television, they want to have violent tantrums in public and show off to each other.
Like throwing fake blood in the cathedral on Easter. They just want to scream and hit people and hurt people at large public gatherings.
And that’s about it. It’s performance art.
Bring it on. I’m a firm believer in giving these folks exactly what they’re asking for.
INTREP
They are so desperate right now that I will not be surprised if there is real violence out of them in the near future. As in folks having to be hospitalized, buildings bombed kind of thing.
This is probably their last chance to take over and destroy the US from within. They came so close in 2000 and blew it and have been in full blown foot stompin’ temper tantrum mode ever since.
You see the thing that is most important to them is the Supreme Court, and they want to make sure that they control who gets put on the court. Roe v. Wade taught them that they can get their way no matter what if they have the court on their side-they can get the policies they want rammed down our throats and the “will of the people” be damned.

Don’t bet on it: the first time a pistol gets pulled they would milk that for all it is worth — and if someone got shot, they’d have a ready-made Peace Martyr.
Now you’d have gifted them two bits of propaganda and gained nothing, and you’d be fighting the battle on the WOT front and on the Second Amendment front.
To say nothing about trying to manage an Excessive Use of Force charge — at least.
Kiss the guns goodbye, kiss the WOT goodbye.
You are much better going off to these protests unarmed and letting them be the aggressors.
Comments from two on the forum there...perhaps a freeper would like to give a little freepaction?
My oh my, those nasties are so prevalent and powerful that the author completely ignores the millions of law-abiding sane folks who oppose the war on Constitutional and moral (Catholic Just War theory, for instance) grounds.
And it is those millions who will not lift a finger to help McCain, and without whom he cannot win.
So don’t blame the crazies, ma’am, blame the illegal, immoral war for McCain’s loss - and for the destruction of the conservative movement (and the hijacking of the label by statist neocons).
Chris Inwien is right.
Sure, we can talk about the Code Pink crazies and the radicals who think it’s still 1969, and basically reduce the debate to a replay of the Vietnam-era clashes between Nixon’s Silent Majority vs. Jerry Rubin and Abbie Hoffman.
But guess what? The Silent Majority has deep reservations about this war. Average Americans want to know how long our troops have to die when no clear goal is in sight.
It’s not that Americans lack courage. It’s not that we want to cut and run or appease someone or other. It’s just that we went in with no clear idea of the endgame.
What does “victory” look like? How do you get a poorly-conceived “nation” made up of three ethnic groups who hate each other (arbitrarily defined by lines the British drew in the desert in 1917) to act like a democratic Western nation? How do you force democracy on people who are by breeding and inclination not suited for it?
Was our “Mission Accomplished” when Saddam was driven from power? When he was captured and executed? When do we leave the Iraqis to their own self-determination?
Is what’s happening in Iraq really vital to our national security (as opposed to, I don’t know, an actual border fence to guard 2,000 miles of the Mexican border)?
Reasonable, non-hippie Americans are asking these questions, and wondering if any of it is worth the lives of any more of our brave fighting men and women, who frankly deserve better.
And the grey-haired ones you see want to relive their youth. They're trying to recapture that Summer of Love feeling again.
I guess they never grew up.
“they dont care a damn about peace....”
those who do advocate peace wear the uniforms of the armed forces and are bringing peace to an area of the world that has never know peace and freedom. Lets hear it for the American GI who has brought peace in many places throughout the world already and now is making it a gift for the Iraqi!
