HR in most companies are so full of themselves, they couldn’t spot a good employee if the CEO applied themself.

You sir, have hit the nail on the head. HR departments do incredible damage to companies. And because HR is populated mostly by females and minorities (to keep the EEOC thugs at bay), the majority of applicants and employees are screwed from the start.

“Who the hell is does this guy think he’s fooling.Yea! its really hard to find quality employees if you only want to pay them a minimum wage.”

Find me a call center in the US paying minimum and I will prove to you that it is a fast food drive thru...

Starting wages for a CSR with no experience are $10 - $12 per hour. Throw some education and or experience in there and you are looking at $14 - $17 per hour depending upon geographic location. This is from the latest Economic Research Institue Salary Survey. http://www.erieri.com/ Our company provides HR outsourcing services.

There is some irony that a lot of people spend a lot of time complaining about our educational system (and other facets of culture and society) on this website, but when someone other than a low-paid teacher or a low-paid scribe tells them about it, the complaints evaporate and they becoming insulted by how much money that person earns.

True. In my company HR is the Supreme Court. And it dictates.

HR departments are, you'll notice, staffed mostly by women and feminized men who are well practiced in the art of rejection.

Oh, did I hurt your feelings? Is it my username that makes you think you can insult me with impunity and not get a response in kind?

I guess that in this case money does not mean everything.I guess it would depend upon the working conditions.

I for one would go absolutely nuts if i was being bombarded bya bunch of telephones ringing all-day. The over stimulation would drive me right up the wall.

The AT&T call centers are pure hell. Many second line managers and above pride themselves on firing top performers who do terrible things such as making a sale without reading the entire sales script.
I have kept my hand in the company since retiring. The horror stories are endless. Even the line managers cringe at the things they are forced to do.

Actually, he’s (1rudeboy) right on this one...the CEO’s main job is to increase value to the shareholders. A cursory look at the last two years at ATT shows that the company (under the direction of this CEO) has added about $6 BILLION of value to the shareholders...even after this recent economic downturn. Generally, employees are worth what they are paid. I know in my company if we get stellar performance we pay premium dollars. I bet the same is with AT&T.

"makes a practice of laying off all their skilled workers when they start to make too much"

Amen to that bro.

What I've seen here in the Midwest, is that they only want to hire part-time or contract employees so that they don't have to give them benefits.

Many years ago I had a job where I spent maybe 6 or 7 hours a day on the phone. The only thing that kept me sane was that I had an office. When I left the company, they were putting in cubes for some new hires. I cringe even thinking about it.

this coming from the company that makes a practice of laying off all their skilled workers when they start to make too much

Agreed, ATT is just another cheap labor slaver here. They canned people by the thousands a few years ago when they outsourced their phones.

The pay was great when I was there. Yearly raises, bonuses, good health insurance, pension and 401K.

Let everyone else know they don’t work on your behalf either, they work to keep the company holdings out of trouble.

Same here, Eric. It took a sleepless night googling to find out on the DSL Reports forum that I could get DSL at the house. The local (then Bellsouth) network manager read my post and called me at home. DSL was available in our neighborhood, after all. He said it was a “paperwork glitch”.

I called AT&T many times, always speaking with an Asian CSR, who had not a clue as to why we couldn’t get DSL. Cat76

This is likely all dramatics to make us think we need more visa workers.

Here in NH companies are constantly whining that recent graduates of technical fields are leaving the state. Well guess what? I have a masters in engineering and none of these companies appear to be serious about hiring anyone. They just want to be able to say that they tried to hire a US citizen.

I am interested in moving out of engineering and on to something else.

Oh and by the way I went to school with people from China, India, Korea etc... The USA is going to be up against stiff competition in the next few decades. But we’ll probably be just another state in the North American Union by then.
