BISBEE — A local man is organizing an effort to clean up trash left behind by illegal immigrants in the Huachuca Mountains on April 5.
The cleanup will focus on Bear Saddle and areas west along the Crest Trail. This section of Crest Trail is part of the Arizona Trail that extends from the Mexico border to the Utah border.
The event’s organizer, Steve Roark of Hereford, competes in 100-mile long-distance races and he trains in the Huachucas.
“I have been running around here for about 1 1/2 years and right away I noticed there are some areas that are completely trashed,” he said.
“When you are running you can’t really do anything. You can take a couple bottles down. But I wanted to do something more,” he added.
The route is about five miles, but longer distances can be arranged. Participants will collect trash and haul out the bags. The event will last a minimum of five hours.
He recommends that people bring food and water, hiking gear, sunscreen, a hat, work gloves and protective clothing. He said items like trash bags, a map and duct tape will be provided.
The group will meet at 7 a.m. at Lone Star Cafe at 7216 South Highway 92.

how about having some illegals under arrest clean up?
There’s an idea. While awaiting their government paid for trip back to see granny (you know, right before they return), let them clean up their own garbage.

I got some pictures of the mess in the mountain from a friend who moved there. I bet he’d be interested in the activity as he’s an avid hiker. I’ll let him know.
I used to hike up there weekly and never saw any trash.

Make sure they are working from North to South.
Charge every "undocumented" (illegal) alien stopped or questioned an automatic $5 each time he is questioned to go to the 'clean up their mess" fund.
Why should I have to pay for it?
