Jamestown Foundation has an article this month about instructions for making anthrax posted on a jihadi internet forum. “A forum participant, nicknamed al-Faz, posted a detailed description of anthrax production techniques dedicated to jihadis everywhere: ‘Long awaited good news for you, God’s soldiers. It’s time to use biological weapons against God’s enemies.’” “Photos are included of the microscopic phases of the process, including the extraction of anthrax bacteria from a sample of dirt that contains the infected remains of dead goats or other grazing animals’ remnants.” The original posting includes safety instructions for the different phases of production. It reminds me of the comment by the fellow recently who suffered respiratory distress after making ricin — for the purpose of self-defense — he bizarrely claims. He told his brother: “It sure worked on me.” The author of the post on the jihadi forum explains: “I wanted to contribute in the preparations against enemies of God. Consider me the servant of the mujahideen. I closely follow your news. May God reward you for your sacrifices. It would make me very happy to see you use biological weapons against God’s enemies. Wait for my next detailed posting on how to build a Cessna 128 aircraft.” It violates the koran to use a poison on an innocent and so al-Faz might instead direct some of his ambition and free time to reading the hadiths on the subject.
The article on the face of it is from someone who has no connection to Ayman Zawahiri, the guy who headed Al Qaeda’s anthrax weaponization efforts. In keeping with fashion the Jamestown Foundation author refers to the mystery of the anthrax mailings as unsolved. Jamestown is a

Oh yes, the prophet/messiah Obama, delusional about his charisma, is the answer. Oprah and her groupies are studying the “A New Earth”, and all will fall in line once Obama is our leader.

Weisberg's purpose is discussing not the anthrax attacks but how Pres. Bush's foreign policy emerged. However, does Weisberg's line of reasoning say something about the anthrax attacks?
