The release of former Symbionese Liberation Army member Sara Jane Olson from prison has angered Jon Opsahl, whose mother was gunned down in a Carmichael bank by the SLA.
Myrna Opsahl was shot to death in the lobby of a Carmichael bank during an April 21, 1975, SLA bank robbery.
After serving six years in prison for his mother's death and for trying to bomb police cars, Olson is now free. She was released Monday from the Central California Women's Facility in Chowchilla. "She's out of prison too soon by far," Jon Opsahl said Friday. "It's another in a series of slaps in the face of victims by the justice system."
On Friday morning, when Opsahl's daughter turned on the family TV in Southern California, he found out about Olson's release.
"There it was on TV: 'Sara Jane Olson has been released from prison,' " Opsahl said. "That's a good four years before when I thought she would be released."
Her release came as a shock, he said. "It was a surprise."
He said he plans to call the Sacramento district attorney for more information.
Bill Sessa, state Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation spokesman, said Olson's sentence was administered in exactly the same way as any other inmate.
In 2001, Olson pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 14 years in prison for the attempted bombings of Los Angeles police cars in 1975 for the SLA, the terrorist group that also kidnapped newspaper heiress Patty Hearst.
Olson also pleaded guilty in 2003 to second-degree murder in connection with the 1975 shooting death of Opsahl. She was serving a concurrent, six-year sentence in that case.

She was actually sentenced to 20 years (two consecutive 10-years-to-life terms) but after a series of appeals and automatic time off for good behavior it was reduced to only 14 years.
But she ends up being released early, serving only SIX YEARS out of the original 20 year sentence.
Why was she released early?
What the heck has happened to this country - to the people we trust to run government for us?
Where is the sense of justice, of proportion, of right versus wrong?
The unborn infant she killed and the mother of this man deserve more than this.
Now Sara Jane Olson can join Obama’s campaign committee. The DemonRats will welcome her with bloody open arms. Any enemy of America, is a friend of theirs.

Remember Bill Ayers, the Weather Underground boss and now the “Distinguished Professor” of some bozo studies at a bozo school in Illinois? Young Master Bill (rich, privileged son of the former head of Consolidated Edison and spouse to the Days of Rager Bernadine Dohrn) was quoted in the New York Times about his book — he said words to the effect that he didn’t regret having engaged in radical bombing only that they didn’t do enough of it. Prison sentences should mean what they say. I’m ok with some, a little time off (not much - certainly not a day for a day) for good behavior, but this is absurd. She is a murderer.
She is a cold blooded bitch.
Fortunately, she will never have any peace unless she is a total sociopath, and even then she will pay for her actions when the time comes. Little solace to her victim’s family though.
I agree with the previous sentiment that her time on the run, living the good life as a doctor’s wife, should aggravate not lessen her punishment.
I don’t know exactly when it happened, but my view on these things are now old fashioned. We might as well succumb to the jurisdiction of the so-called International Criminal Court and the European Community.
Sometimes I am glad to be in my 50s. I am sad for my kids though. America is not what she used to be. We have improved in many ways, but we have lost our way in many more, equally important ways. I will rant about this for a little while. Lot’s of good it will do.

Believe me, they worked hard in trying to track those guys. My husband knew the guy that blew up that building at the University of Wisconsin, he was the coxswain in the same rowing shell at Penn AC. The FBI traced my husband to my house to speak to him (we were dating at that time). My husband hadn’t seen or heard from the guy in four or five years. They were just talking to everyone that ever knew him.
