Lynndie England Blames Media for Photos
AP ^ | Mar 18, 2008 | MATT MOORE

Posted on 03/18/2008 3:51:21 PM PDT by Anti-Bubba182

BERLIN (AP) - Lynndie England, the public face of the Abu Ghraib prison scandal, told a German news magazine that she was sorry for appearing in photographs of detainees in the notorious Iraqi prison, and believes the scenes of torture and humiliation served as a powerful rallying point for anti-American insurgents.

In an interview with the weekly magazine Stern conducted in English and posted on its Web site Tuesday, England was both remorseful and unrepentant—and conceded that the published photos surely incensed insurgents in Iraq.

"I guess after the picture came out the insurgency picked up and Iraqis attacked the Americans and the British and they attacked in return and they were just killing each other. I felt bad about it ... no, I felt pissed off. If the media hadn't exposed the pictures to that extent, then thousands of lives would have been saved," she was quoted as saying.

Asked how she could blame the media for the controversy, she said it wasn't her who leaked the photos.

"Yeah, I took the photos but I didn't make it worldwide. Yes, I was in five or six pictures and I took some pictures, and those pictures were shameful and degrading to the Iraqis and to our government," she said, according to the report.

"And I feel sorry and wrong about what I did. But it would not have escalated to what it did all over the world if it wouldn't have been for someone leaking it to the media.".........................."

I wonder how it all would have gone without the photos?

>>I wonder how it all would have gone without the photos?<<

There would likely have been a lot more torture and humiliation.

That she lacks sufficient remorse for what she helped those people do to our nations war effort and image is sickening.

Not true, as the Army investigation was already well underway when the photos were published and those involved had already been transferred.

Exactly.

Poor Lynndie gets "pissed off" and young American men and women get their legs blown off or killed by terrorist scum that rationalize their actions based on Lynndie's deeds.

None of these idiots could think far enough into the future to realize what damage they could do to our war effort. The woman who was the commander of the prison seemed to be a few bricks shy, too.

Is there no one in the military to explain to these young troops how devastating their personal behavior can be to our nation's image during war time? In this age of immediate, world wide, media immersion, it seems someone should have that job?

Someone needs the job of educating stupid media fed sheeple in the civilian world who are demanding a P.C. military. This is bunk. Most of us if not all of us who served in the military pre 1990's went through hazing and initiation's that were far worse than what happened in that prison. Our military is being P.C.'d to death. If you want nice find alter boys and boy scouts. Not saying there is anything wrong with such. But trying to make saints out of men trained to kill? We will never win another war with the current P.C. how war must be fought mentality.

Being the wife of a retired career soldier, I absolutely understand, however, one picture, one sound bite, can be a morale killer. Soldiers MUST be aware that our enemies are watching them and just waiting for them to make a mistake. Now there is no lag-time for stupidity, it is broadcast, worldwide, for friends and enemies alike.

The release of the photos by the uncle of one of the men on trial (after he tried to blackmail the government into a plea bargain) was the turning point in the war.

It served to rally Al Qaeda and it served to turn the US public against the war.

Al Qaeda quickly murdered Nick Berg on camera and blamed the Abu Ghraib photos for the act but Nick Berg had already been kidnapped nearly a month and he posed a liability as another kidnap victim (a Haliburton employee) had escaped earlier that week and was telling the US government about his abductors.

SO WHAT!!!! SHEESH. How about pictures of our troops giving them hugs and kisses then. We are the United States of America Not We Are The World We are the Children. As for our enemies? We should be using every means at our disposal to kill them and yes that includes THEIR PEOPLE so they don't have time to think about it. War is an act of absolutes otherwise stay home. There should be no concern about what another thinks to dermine our policy and ROE's of war. That is the United States Military we have lost since post WW2.

It happened because of Political Correctness which took over both our education and military as well as our elected leadership. That should be the outrage of every red blooded America and not outrage over some POW with Panites or whatever.

Political Correctness will kill, imprision, and harm, far more persons than any terrorist ever will. But fighting PC doesn't make for defense contracts payola for politicans friends nor good shock and awe media stories. By acting to address or modifying behavior for the concerns you mention P.C. has it's victory and we get handed a hands tied losses. How many more times must we go this route before people learn?

It was Ted Kennedy and Hunter S. Thompson who crapped on our nations’ image.

Ted Kennedy proclaimed that Abu Ghraib had just reopened under new management (putting panties on prisoners heads instead of raping their wives, disembowling them in front of their husbands, and chopping off prisoners hands).

Hunter S. Thompson said it was worse than the worst of the Nazi attrocities.

The rabid Left should’ve all done as Hunter did and off themselves in shame.

How quickly the public forget that the “insurgents” released photos of our own soldiers dead with their pants pulled down PRIOR to the Abu Ghraib scandal.

No one ever talks of those war crimes. Of that humiliation. Of that outrageous act.

Were their pants pulled down to look for possible circumsized Jews or was it for rape and humiliation?

The enemy was way worse. WAY worse.

Right! That was Staff Sergeant Ivan Fredericks.

Ivan Frederick

".. It was members of Frederick's family who gave the incriminating photos (alt) to 60 Minutes.[snip]

"He was sentenced to eight years in prison, forfeiture of pay, a dishonorable discharge and a reduction in rank to private. He was paroled on October 1, 2007 and released from prison."

Informing did not work out for him.

Prior to Abu Ghraib there was also a treasonous British soldier and British newpaper editor who staged a photo of “abuse” with the British soldier urinating on a supposed Iraqi prisoner. Except tell tale signs in the photo revealed it to be a deliberate hoax.

There are those who wear the uniform that do not serve on the side of the nation they claim to be fighting for.

A photo is a photo regardless of whether the scumbag in the photo REALLY had his heart set on serving honorably.

There are those who ask WHY would a recruit deliberately throw away a career in the military to trash his own team? The same can be said of the scumbags like Sgt. Akbar who throw grenades in to an officers’ tent to kill members of his own team. Allah fubar. This is war. They want to WIN.

There are those who justify their actions on Newsweak’s lie about flushing korans down the toilet at Gitmo too.

They are Islamic supremacists who see it as their duty in life to kill the kufir.

Any outrage works as “justification”.

Over half of American men and all adult Muslim men are circumcized. This might have worked for Germans, not for Muslims.

Let's see now. We get back headless, or limbless, even private parts missing, people from our enemy and the world see it as Arabs just being Arabs. By by gosh dontcha dare let a POW be hazed by a soldier? And you agree with this? Like I said most who served in the United States Armed Forced prior to 1990 or so got hazed far worse. Ask any pre-1980 USN Snipe LOL. Even our Equator crossing was more graphic in nature than what went on in that prison. What the guards did may have ben childish that's about the extent of it except of course to thos who prefer kinder, gentler, war so their media ran conscience isn't violated.

I was actually referring to the definition of torture I government initiated in international agreements. Mock executions are specifically forbidden, for example.

And what the heck fraternity did you belong to? Our hazing "team building exercises" were tough but if there had been forced sodomy, mock executions, beating on wounds with batons and abuse of children, not a stone of that Frat house would have standing and I'd be in prison for what I would have done in retaliation - except no Atlanta jury would convict on revenge of those actions.

Thousands rioted in Turkey when a feminazi’s rant about the US troops “raping” muslim lands was translated as US troops raping muslims.

Any excuse is there.

There were porn photos that were published in Egypt and elsewhere (and ultimately in the Boston Globe as GENUINE even after they’d been exposed as a fraud) that also were used to show “US troops” “raping” “Iraqi” women.

The photos didn’t have to be genuine for ANYONE to run them. They ran plenty of fakes too. The Western press even staged some (like the Daily Mirror shots of the British soldier peeing on a non-prisoner).

Our leaders are so P.C. they lacked the guts to do the job themselves. Saddams trial should have been before a U.S. Military Tribunal. U.S. Soldiers upon his conviction which would have came months sooner should have strung him up.

I’ll also take the time to point out that the New York Times ran the Abu Ghraib story on the front page for over 30 days as a daily story.

Our own treasonous press exploited this investigation to sway the 2004 election. It didn’t work but it did turn the tide on the war.

That is aid and comfort. Propaganda. Yellow journalism. Zogbyism. Treason. Scum.

I do not disagree with your condemnation of the leakers.

My comments were with regard to those performing petty acts of cruelty for their own sadistic pleasure.

Doing so is wrong. It always has been wrong, and it always will be wrong.

I can handle the idea of “rigorous interrogation” when there is a real need for it. Bored guards amusing themselves by abusing prisoners is hardly equivalent.

Hazing has been going on ever since. It has been done to fried and foe. It was done to me several times and one of them was far worse that what any POW we held ever saw. The Geneva Convention which is about as usefull to us as tits on a Boar Hog is what sets POW treatment. Beating the crap out of a POW especially without cause as in self defense. Yea that would likely get you brig time throughout U.S. history. Hazing? Not until the "We are the world" Marxist took out the leadership of our nation.

Now open up a U.S. history book. When the nation went to war against itself POW's were used as slaves.
