Our homeless have to go to California because it gets to cold here. They love it there.

Classic example of an image fitting the prejudice that “the Beeb” and most Europeans have against the US and our superior economic performance (even in weak quarters). The interviewed “displaced” folks sounded and looked to me like mentally ill and perhaps drug using populations - large constituents of the homeless populations at any phase of the economy.

I grew up next door in Chino, which is near Upland, isn’t it, Doug?

That’s just the problem. People who should have known better should not have lived beyond their current means.

Just because a credit card company offers you a card doesn’t mean you HAVE to take it. Same thing with a bank. You have to look at people who offer you credit as shysters in the first place. I don’t care who it is. You ahve to assume they want to screw you in some way (even if that isn’t the case) just to keep your guard up and aware of what the hell you’re getting into.

Devil’s in the details.

I wasn’t kidding. LA is expensive. If you have a low wage skill set, you’re screwed.

It’s next door to Upland. Our Kiwanis club has provided some tents for some of these people. We all need to count our blessings, folks, and share things when we can.

Are there statistics on the kinds of homes in foreclosure? In other words, are they mostly $200k homes? Or $800k homes?

Where I live, I just got an assessment that said my home went UP 12% from last year. How is that possible?

In many of them, the motors don’t start because they have worn out their batteries using power and trying to stay warm.

I live smack dab in the middle of Los Angeles. From the front of my house I see the downtown skyline to the left and the Hollywood sign to the right.

My home value has gone up each of the last two years. Not a lot of homes go up for sale but they sell fast and at good prices.

This is a big issue on DU. Google this tent city ... look at the people. They are BUMS!!! They are not foreclosures.

So maybe it’s higher-end homes that are okay? I know that my wife’s parents sold their home in Tampa the day they put it on the market — and got a great price. It was in beautiful shape, exclusive neighborhood and high-priced.

There’s a truckload of apartments and rental houses in Dallas/Ft. Worth for UNDER $600 a month:

http://dallas.craigslist.org/search/apa?query=&minAsk=0&maxAsk=600&bedrooms=2

...and jobs out the wazoo: http://dallas.craigslist.org/jjj/

..see if the County, City Council, Human Services or the like might help them get here. When I worked with unemployed & homeless veterans in Des Moines, Polk County would give people bus tickets or gas chits to move somewhere with more opportunity.

I know they are not foreclosures. They are lost souls with troubled lives. A plan is being worked on with donors to house them in a building. I don’t want the government to suck out our money and waste it. In this case, I hope that we, as individuals, can help our fellow man.

Maybe that is part of the solution. Maybe some of these people would do some of the jobs taken by those who don’t belong here.

Then, as others have said, move.

30 million impoverished third worlders get here from parts unknown, and then these dumbasses languish in the desert?

Forgive me for not giving a shit.
