Change We Can Believe In? Better Watch Your Wallet By Joseph BH McMillan

One things voters can be assured of — Democratic "change" is always a very expensive proposition.

The wonderful thing about election campaigns are the slogans.

Campaign slogans are no different to any other brand slogan – they appeal to the ignorant, and persuade them to depart with their hard earned money.

So let’s take Obama. His slogan is “Change We Can Believe in.”

But what does this “change” really mean?

His website makes it abundantly clear.

Increased “investment” in infrastructure, energy independence, education, and research and development – just for starters.

Then more resources and more funding for education, even though there is already a clear inverse return on "investment" in education.

Even Ethics will need to be paid for to fund the myriad of "oversight" responsibilities he will introduce to ensure that elected and appointed government officials behave themselves.

Like Gordon Brown in Britain, he has also discovered that all Americans have a “right to affordable Health Care.”

Obama will also eradicate poverty. He will create a “Green Jobs Corps;” pay people money to get to work (I’m not joking!); provide job training for ex-offenders, and provide substance abuse counseling.

He will also increase benefits for “parents who support their children through child support payments,” increase benefits for parents with three or more children, and promote responsible fatherhood. These particular promises remind me of a problem encountered by family planning officials in Africa. To persuade parents to have fewer children they showed them illustrations of two families. One family had only two children, so were shown in a small car. The other family had seven children, so they were shown in a large car. The message that a small family was cheaper to raise than a large family was totally eclipsed by the audience who took it to mean that you get a big car if you have a big family.

I expect Obama’s promises in all areas will have precisely that effect.

These are only a very few examples of the “change” Obama has in mind for the American people. The rest all contain the same ingredient – more money to pay for “change” – and Obama has a remedy for every social and economic ailment in his “social justice medical kit.”

So yes, Obama will bring the “change” he promises, only it will be loose change for each and every Dollar earned by the American people. His slogan should be “Loose Change we can believe in!”

But is Hillary’s slogan any better? Well, she promises “Solutions for America.”

Her “solutions” are much the same as Obama’s, except she claims that the potions in her “social justice medical kit” are more potent and effective than those in Obama’s “social justice medical kit.”

Hillary’s slogan should really be “Hillary the Alchemist – brewing Solutions to dissolve your Dollars.”

Alas, even McCain can’t help himself when it comes to spending other people’s money, notwithstanding his claimed reformation.

When he recently said he was now in favor of reducing taxes, he immediately went on to say he would do more to get people into work through job training.

Why is it that these people just can’t comprehend that they are the problem, not the solution? Perhaps it’s because then they themselves would need a good dose of “job training” – for a real job!

Back in the mid-70’s, in Michigan, Corrections Officers couldn’t call those living inside the walls prisoners, felons, convicts or any of the usual terms. Administration required staff to call them, Corrections Clients!

LBJ’s War on Poverty is a quagmire. We need to withdraw our dollars immediately. We lost. We can’t invade another give-away program.
