Referencing the recent uproar over his former minister's controversial sermons, Barack Obama on Saturday denounced the "forces of division" that he says have become part of the Democratic race for the White House.
Speaking to a sold-out crowd in Plainfield, Indiana, Obama again said he sharply disagreed with the some of the Rev. Jeremiah Wright's past statements, saying they remind him of the country's "tragic history when it comes to race."
"I knew him and know him as somebody in my church who talked to me about Jesus and family and friendships but clearly had if all I knew were the statements that I saw on television I would be shocked," Obama said. "And it just it reminds me that we have a tragic history when it comes to race in in this country we have got a lot of pent up anger and bitterness and misunderstanding."
"But what I continue to believe in is that this country wants to move beyond these kinds of debates," he added. "That this country wants something different."
Obama's comments come one day after he formally repudiated Wright's sermons recently posted on the Internet and the subject of an ABC News report that have drawn fire. The campaign also said Friday Wright no longer had a leadership position within the campaign.

Who does he think he is? PT Barnum?
More popcorn, please.
Note to Obama: the “divisions” you see will end when the Democrats stop pushing abortion and Socialism/Communism/Liberalism on the rest of us through your ill-advised policies and takeover of the educational system. Until then, divisions will continue. Because Democrats/Liberals/Socialists/Communists are my political enemies.
Sure he decries them...when they may cost him the nomination. Prior to that, he was donating big money to a Force of Division.
Yeah, I’d say that blaming whitey for everything and saying “God damn America” is pretty devisive.
Controvesial?????
Oh no, we don't take offense to "kill whitey" "kill America" chuches, who could?
I just wish this would have hit in October.Assuming he got the nod of course and he didn’t get the Ron Brown special after the convention.
RIGHT, like the black racist, anti-Semitic, anti American "spiritual guide and mentor" he has had guiding, leading and advising him for the last 22 years. Obamalama is a FRAUD, who's actions speak louder than his pious platitudes. If he was really concerned about forces of division he would have forsaken Wright and his so called "church".
people are paying to listen to obama's student council speeches ?
YEARS AGO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I find it interesting that Obama was with the Pastor, if that is what he calls himself, for 20 years and never saw that side of him. He must not be very observant. Not good in a potential President. He is trying to be a goody two shoes that will get this country in trouble....almost as much as Hillary will.
Eh? What's that you say?
I can't hear you, Senator.
"God Damn AmeriKKKa" is still ringing in my ears.
How entertaining to see a Democrat decry “division,” when it has been the pre-eminent political strategy of the Democrat party for three quarters of a century.
Obama would be more dangerous internationally.
Both are socialists, and will destroy the economy,
but at least Hill would not give away all of the store to our enemies (just 2/3 of it).
Thank you, Senator Obama, for being stupid enough to keep your America-hating, 9/11-moonbat pastor on long enough to reveal your *true* associations.
We’re giving you hope for change. Back to Chicago politics. Some of your own supporters are now, WISELY, abandoning you in droves.
We’re electing a President for America, not Louis Farrakhan and the nation of islam.
Yeah yeah yeah. 20 years and this is the first you heard of it. We don’t want a President who gets “out of the loop” or goes on ignore.
Mr. B— I don’t think Hillary gives away anything to anyone. She and her husband would rob the store blind. Remember when they left the White House and took all manner of White House furnishings and decor with them?
That said, it is far more dangerous to have Obama in the WH.
She would sell it (for a nice kickback.)
With which statements of Wright does Obama disagree? Obama’s book approvingly cites many of Wright’s arguments.
Don’t leave out the anti-Semitic parts.
Barry Dumbo Obomba, your preacher has blown your cover.
How about he decries the forces of division in his church?
Gee Mr. Obama, does the 'About Us' statement from your church of 20 years not sound a bit divisive?
About Us
We are a congregation which is Unashamedly Black and Unapologetically Christian... Our roots in the Black religious experience and tradition are deep, lasting and permanent. We are an African people, and remain "true to our native land," the mother continent, the cradle of civilization. God has superintended our pilgrimage through the days of slavery, the days of segregation, and the long night of racism. It is God who gives us the strength and courage to continuously address injustice as a people, and as a congregation. We constantly affirm our trust in God through cultural expression of a Black worship service and ministries which address the Black Community.
The Pastor as well as the membership of Trinity United Church of Christ is committed to a 10-point Vision:
A congregation committed to ADORATION.
A congregation preaching SALVATION.
A congregation actively seeking RECONCILIATION.
A congregation with a non-negotiable COMMITMENT TO AFRICA.
A congregation committed to BIBLICAL EDUCATION.
A congregation committed to CULTURAL EDUCATION.
A congregation committed to the HISTORICAL EDUCATION OF AFRICAN PEOPLE IN DIASPORA.
A congregation committed to LIBERATION.
A congregation committed to RESTORATION.
A congregation working towards ECONOMIC PARITY.
My apologies to those who might be reading this for the umpteenth time that I've posted this 'About Us' screed over the past couple of weeks.
It really rubs me the wrong way (even more than some whacked out sermons from their pastor).
The tucc.org should rework their 'About Us' page and make it Christ centric and not Afro centric. We're the ones that paint everything by race and class divisions. Not God. If they insist that their 'About Us' statement really does define themselves -- then leave the Church and properly call themselves a racial club. The KKK can use some company.
The “forces” are Clinton, Inc. and they’re dividing Hussein from the nomination.

“Hope-Nosis”
How about Obamanosis!
Wright is a malignant bigot and a cancer in the "Black" community. Your defense of him proves you are also just another narcissistic Black race huckster, who lies and connives as it suits your needs and desires.
No, she won't give it away - she'll sell it.
You can disagree with reverend Wright, Barack, but he did make 1 true statement.
Bill did us just like he did Monica Lewinsky - Reverend Wright.
Amplify that.
I sure hope McCain's 'Spiritual Guide'...Reverend Rod Parsley...didn't say anything that John would have to stand by...
...like God established the USA to kill all the Islamic people in the world...
Oh, no...oh, dear...
Clintons win for sure on this one...the couple of times they went to church, Bill was sleeping & Hitlery was counting the recent campaign receivables from China...
THEY HEARD NOTHING...
“How about Obamanosis!”
LOL!
Even better!
Sounds like a mental disease.
"Vast right-wing conspiracy" coming directly from a scumbag candidate's mouth is the standard for divisive.
I think we have a great history, and he is not part of it.
When Obama said on Friday, “When these statements first came to my attention, it was at the beginning of my presidential campaign. I made it clear at the time that I strongly condemned his comments.”, yet another lie?
We need a FReeper that is good at photoshop to put Obama and Farrakan right in the Oval Office smiling. We'll can put that picture in more brains so the importance of it will sink in.
Barack Obama either agreed with what was preached from the Trinity pulpit, or he tuned it out and stayed around pretending to for political reasons. To say he stayed for 20 years but doesn't agree with Wright's preaching is incredible denial. It'd be like a man buying White Sox season tickets for 20 years, attending the games, and saying he's not a fan.
Obamas supporters want us to ignore this story just push it under the rug. While theyll align Republicans with any obscure pastor who does or says something controversial, theyre trying to convince us that Obamas 20-year long close relationship with Wright, including his effective endorsement of him, his church and rhetoric with a $22,500 donation in 2006 is irrelevant.

When Obama decided against wearing an American flag pin, we may all have been a bit too quick to accept his rationale, too quick to find that issue unimportant. Now, that American flag pin has gotten a lot bigger for a lot of us, especially in light of what may have been and may still be Obamas deeper, and, perhaps, secret, less than patriotic beliefs about America.

Wright says that blacks cant be expected to sing God Bless America because of racism. Obama doesnt salute the flag during the National Anthem. That sure strikes me as an amazing coincidence since Obama swears he never heard Wright say anything against America.
