AP Exclusive: On Manson's trail, forensic testing suggests possible new grave sites
International Herald Tribune ^ | March 15, 2008 | staff

DEATH VALLEY NATIONAL PARK, Calif.: Bone-white stretches of salt, leached up from the lifeless soil, lay like a shroud over the high desert where a paranoid Charles Manson holed up after an orgy of murder nearly four decades ago.

Now, as then, few venture into this alkaline wilderness — gold-diggers, outlaws, loners content to live and let live.

But a determined group of outsiders recently made the trek. They were leading forensic investigators searching for new evidence of death — clues pointing to possible decades-old clandestine graves.

And the results of just-completed followup tests suggest bodies could indeed be lying beneath the parched ground. The test findings — described in detail to The Associated Press, which had accompanied the site search — conclude there are two likely clandestine grave sites at Barker Ranch, and one additional site that merits further investigation.

Next step, the ad hoc investigators urge: Dig.

For years, rumors have swirled about other possible Manson family victims — hitchhikers who visited them at the ranch and were not seen again, runaways who drifted into the camp then fell out of favor.

Why haven't they waterboarded Charlie?

If they suspected other murders it sure has taken them long enough to investigate.

Charlie should have been attached to an anvil and waterboarded at the bottom of a pool many years ago.

"The Manson family members currently in prison are already serving life sentences — the maximum penalty allowed at the time the crimes were committed."

That should have some clarification. Charlie, and three of his angels, were sentenced to death. The California Supreme Court repealed the death penalty a year latter.

It appears that he had a great childhood...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Manson
First known as “no name Maddox,”[6][7][8] Manson was born to unmarried, sixteen-year-old Kathleen Maddox in Cincinnati General Hospital, Cincinnati, Ohio; no more than three weeks after his birth, he was Charles Milles Maddox.[6][9][10] For a period, after her son’s birth, Kathleen Maddox was married to a laborer named William Manson,[10] whose last name the boy was given. Charles Manson’s biological father appears to have been a “Colonel Scott”, against whom Maddox filed a bastardy suit that resulted in an agreed judgment in 1937.[6] Possibly, Charles never really knew him.[6][8]

Young Manson’s mother, allegedly a drinker,[6] once sold him for a pitcher of beer to a childless waitress, from whom his uncle retrieved him some days later.[7] When his mother and her brother were sentenced to five years imprisonment for robbing a Charleston, West Virginia, service station in 1939, Manson was placed in the McMechen, West Virginia, home of an aunt and uncle who were very religious. Upon his mother’s 1942 parole, Manson was returned to his mother and lived with her in run-down hotel rooms.[6]

In 1947, Kathleen Maddox tried to have her son placed in a foster home but failed because no such home was available.[6] The court placed Manson in Gibault School for Boys, Terre Haute, Indiana. After ten months, he fled from there to his mother, who rejected him.[6]

I sometimes wonder how many of Charlies’ followers are now sitting in government jobs. Perhaps some of those are on Berkeley’s City Council.

With Obama’s candidacy, maybe Charlie can still save the Day for the Democrats when Hillary’s Helter Skelter comes to fruition

Part of the problem is that few if any of the suspected victims were ever known by name. It’s all rumor and innuendo. And those who know the truth are really unlikely to say anything because they would have been accomplices.

That said, there is very little reason to believe all of Manson’s victims are known. Just as the official reason he ordered the Tate/Labianca killings is hogwash. This man not only had no regard for human life, he was quick to kill anyone that upset him personally. They weren’t after Tate, they were after Terry Melcher, who used to own the home and had refused to sign Manson as a musician. The Labiancas may not even have been chosen at random, as Leo had some shady dealings with some criminals Charlie had known in prison.

Probably few of his followers are in any position of authority because, while the family is portrayed as being somewhat large, its true numbers were likely less than 30, most of whom were either young girls procured for sex, or men who joined to take advantage of said girls. Those who speak publicly try to make it sound like there was a groupthink mentality with everyone at Spahn Ranch because it explains their actions. But the remaining members have remained pretty silent because they didn’t view Charlie as anything more than a magnet for drugs and sex.

With American colleges & universities being inundated with Leftists/Socialists/Marxists indoctrinating students with Commie propaganda for decades, who knows how many million anti-American wachos there are today. The evidence is everywhere from SF & Berkeley to Manhattan. And with half of America receiving some kind of government assistance,
who says “Communisma is dead!”

Actually I have just done a lot of reading on the case.

Helter Skelter was used as a tool to justify actions to a handful of seriously drug addled kids. But, even without the fairy tale he spun, those few kids he had kill for him would have done anything he said, and had been doing so for several months. It’s hard to say how much of the insanity Manson actually believed, but what is known is that the guy was a total con-man, so it is very easy to believe he didn’t believe any of it and just created the BS to get more control over the family. Given the fact that everything he says in interviews is STILL completely self-serving and manipulative I really doubt he sincerely meant much of what he said at Spahn Ranch.

The Manson mystique was just something created by a man who wanted to inflate his own sense of self-worth. The spectacular nature of the stories surrounding the crimes are a lot more titillating than saying that Manson had drug addicts kill people in a house he assumed was occupied by a man he hated. Manson perpetuates it to stay, in his own mind, relevant. Bugliosi and many others perpetuate it to make the stories they are selling even more spectacular.

The problem with Manson is most people don’t realize that while he is evil, most of his “insanity” is an act.

The Manson family members currently in prison are already serving life sentences — the maximum penalty allowed at the time the crimes were committed.

IIRC the article is incorrect when it stated the above. I believe Manson was given the death penalty, which California then had, prior to the Supreme Court ending all then current death penalties. Everyone on death row was then converted to lifers. If they can find bodies, and if they can find sufficient evidence at this late date to link them to Charlie and if they can do so in a way that fits the new California death penalty - a lot of ifs - then maybe Charlie's groupies, and his endless run of parole hearings, can receive the fate that he and his first jury justly deserve.

Here's a clip from an up coming documentary called "Helter Skelter"

This guy that did this has website called "Find a Death" that's filled with all kinds of stuff on Hollywood's famous and infamous. (Check the directory)

It's pretty interesting. You can look up what ever happened to the stars of your favorite old shows.

Manson was and is first and foremost a con artist. His natural habitat is a jail cell. No dout it was in jail that he learned how to manipulate people, how to exercise power over them and how to convince them of their dependence on him. His exposure to Scientology was just a bonus. It never hurts to put a religious gilding on a con.

The book “The Family” by Ed Sanders explores much of the occult side of Charles Manson. Later versions have references to the Church of The Process deleted but Sanders lays out a very good case on its influence on Manson.

Manson relied on mind control techniques beloved by cult leaders everywhere. “ Manchurian Candidates R Us”. He made sure his followers always had access to mind altering drugs. Belladonna was a favorite. He “love bombed” them. He presented an us vs them world view. He encouraged an apocalyptic vision. He dictated the sexual encounters of his followers. He kept them isolated from family and others outside the cult. He made them listen to endless ramblings of his indoctrination. When he read about Jim Jones I bet his reaction was “hey why didn’t I think of that?”

I have no doubt that Manson and his followers were guilty of more murders. Some are reported in the book I mention by Sanders. Most were probably over drug deals gone bad but some were probably done to increase Manson’s control over his followers. He really liked the idea of living the fear.

"That should have some clarification. Charlie, and three of his angels, were sentenced to death. The California Supreme Court repealed the death penalty a year latter. "

I may not be remembering this correctly, but I believe that it was the US Supreme Court that outlawed all death penalties (1972?) which were then reinstituted under new laws.

According to the book “Helter Skelter” It may never be known how many people they killed, but a good guess could be near one hundred.

The same issue was before both the California and the USSC courts at the same time. California ruled first.

Then after the USSC ruled, Richard Speck and all other death row immates got guaranteed meals for the rest of their lives.

.

"While the nation waited for the Supreme Court decision, two state supreme courts returned opinions of their own, striking down the death penalty in New Jersey and California and automatically commuting all sentences in those states to life imprisonment."
