A former Ohio State University librarian accused of sexual harassment after recommending a conservative book for freshmen has filed a lawsuit against the university and some of its faculty.
Scott Savage, who said he resigned because of personal and professional attacks on his character, asks for his job back and for OSU to be forced to change its sexual-harassment policies.
OSU is "an aggressive proponent of the homosexual lifestyle by virtue of its practices and policies," Savage says in the lawsuit, filed in federal court because he says his civil rights were violated.
"OSU is therefore a naturally hostile environment to the expression of traditional Christian beliefs and morality."
In 2006, Savage agreed to serve on a committee to determine required reading for incoming freshmen at the Mansfield campus.
Savage said the books considered by the committee were too liberal and suggested The Marketing of Evil by David Kupelian.
Professors James F. Buckley and Norman W. Jones filed a sexual-harassment complaint against Savage, saying he was homophobic for suggesting the book. The complaint was dismissed as unfounded.
Because he continued to be harassed, Savage said, he was forced to resign.
The suit says he is a devout Christian, married for 18 years and the father of eight. It says he has struggled to find library work since leaving OSU.
OSU spokesman Jim Lynch declined to comment.

Being a Michigan Wolverine ...........I would have to say that two Buckeye professors are just a couple of fuzzy nuts!
Ohow-I-hate Ohio-State
Our tax dollars are being used to promote the homosexual agenda. Universities push this agenda and anyone who holds an opposing view is intimidated, harrassed and forced out.
I can understand why you hate OSU. We beat you so often in football, lately.
Sounds like the professors prove the point, don’t they? No courses on irony at OSU, I guess.
If they could they'd burn him at the stake for being a heretic...
I remember reading about the case when it was taking place. There should be some ‘comeuppance’ for the jackasses who tried to ruin this guy. He should not have resigned. He should have documented the continued harassment and fixed their clocks already.
What the article left out (leftie author?) is tht the librarian was hauled before a university disciplinary committee to face charges of sexual harassment for the “sin” of recommending a book that two OSU homosexual professors didn’t like. The committee voted unanimously to sanction the librarian, but retracted when the story hit the wire.
“forced to resign” needs some explanation.
See post 8.
Stunning and frightening. So much for the free expression of ideas. ALA and other left wing organizations condemn the banning of books but this case does essentially the same thing. I doubt the ALA will offer any support for this guy. They are the same organization that did nothing to aid Cuban librarians who were jailed.
Understood. He may have been uncomfortable, but “forced to resign”?
It doesn’t look that way.
I’m with other posters who say that he should have stayed and gathered evidence.
And, OSU gets thrashed by any SEC team when ESPN’s favorite football team plays outside its cupcake conference.
I’m praying that Savage wins his suit, and that the libs at Ohio U. get their comeuppance.
Maybe some well placed sexual harrassment lawsuits would help. Someone call the ACLU (sarc.).
“Im praying that Savage wins his suit, and that the libs at Ohio U. get their comeuppance.”
And, the same goes for Ohio State U., too!
I remember being a freshmen at OSU back in 1981 and seeing signs on campus taped everywhere for an organization called the Gay Alliance. In the Student Union, there was a big sign over their office door which read, “Someone you love is Gay.” I remember thinking how perverted and confused these people were. In just a few years, I can probably go to prison for having such “perverted” thoughts. This is called social justice by the Left.
For reference:
Ohio University is located in Athens, in the south eastern portion of the state on the Hocking river. It's a favorite of students from the east coast - New Jersey, New York, etc., giving it the nickname of "Harvard on the Hocking". Its reputation for a party school also helps. Mascot: Bobcats
The Ohio State University is located in Columbus, and has a football team. "Diversity" is their mantra unless you're Christian or conservative in your politics. Mascot: Buckeyes
I attended OU for a year, and eventually graduated from OSU, so I'm pretty familiar with both institutions.
While at OSU I was a member of the OSU College Republicans and we were easily the most hated and vilified organization on campus. But every time the OSU newpaper, The Lantern, would pour scorn on us our membership would increase. The CR president when I was involved frequents FR from time to time.
He should not have fallen for the “forced to resign” mantra. All that does is disqualify one from the popular government program of unemployment comp.

There is confusion here about which university this is.
His career was stalled and the harassment continued. It's hard to say whether staying would be a good idea unless I were in his position.
I was subjected to one of these smear campaigns at work by militant homosexuals. It is very unpleasant when your HR department is littered with female, man-hating homosexuals who agree with the homosexual agenda. Luckily, I had witnesses to back me or I would have been terminated on the words of two vicious man-haters.
The librarian was employed by Ohio State University, not Ohio University. Both are public universities.
Thank you.
In Canada, it is now illegal for a clergyman to quote certain passages from Leviticus because it is deemed "hate speech" by the government.
I'm here to help. I think this is their fight song
Liquidate Ohio State and turn the Buckeyes blue.
They breed a lot of cattle in Columbus,
It looks just like a zoo.
Knock them off their ivory towers,
Send them crawling into the showers,
Down with Ohio State,
Its a know nothing party school.
They say the girls who go to O.S.U.,
Are husband hunting dames,
They dig the jocks who got the killer instinct,
Not the boys with brains.
At Columbus youre way ahead,
With straight As in Physical Ed,
Down with Ohio State,
Its a know nothing party school.
Bust your guts for Tressel,
Move your butts for Tressel,
Liquidate Ohio State and turn the Buckeyes blue,
They breed a lot of cattle in Columbus,
It looks just like a zoo. Rah! Rah! Rah!
Knock them off their ivory towers,
Send them crawling into the showers,
Down with Ohio State,
Its a know nothing party schoooooooooool.
Oh, wait, maybe this is the WOMC parody of the OSU song. Yeah, that's it. Looks like it needs an update.
Well, this is an interesting case, to say the least. I agree with those who think the librarian should have remained on the job, documenting the facts. The "sexual harassment" case he is bringing is so novel! I love it when the tables are turned. Good luck to him.

Doubtless, they mean part in Leviticus about how detestable it is "to lie with a man as one lies with a woman." Look for a revision of this to mean not to tell fibs.
I believe this is Michigan’s fight song: Hail to you mother****ers, Hail to you c******kers, Hail, Hail to Michigan, the cesspool of the world!
Thank you for posting the link to your post from last year about this story. There is more background info there. Interesting case. I hope that you will post further updates.
I certainly will.
This is an embarrassing situation for my Alma Mater, but as the saying goes "sunlight is the best disinfectant." Exposing leftist and homosexual fascism will hopefully make it more difficult to continue either in the future.
This may be an academic-freedom instance in which the David Horowitz people at frontpagemagazine.com could perhaps be of assistance.
Scott Savage, who said he resigned because of personal and professional attacks on his character, asks for his job back and for OSU to be forced to change its sexual-harassment policies.
Scott Savage screwed the pooch big time by resigning. There are always a lot of things unsaid in an article like this, but the University dismissed the complaint as unfounded. If he was being harassed, he could have filed a counter claim within the University system. I fail to see how he can sue the University for his job back when he resigned.
For some reason, I suspect he was REALLY annoying, and when he quit there was a collective sigh of relief. After he quit, he found out what a good gig he had at the University, and how difficult it is to find a job as a librarian, as libraries are the buggy whip manufacturing industry of the internet age. With eight kids, he probably figured out that the complete insurance coverage, three weeks off at Christmas, five days off at Thanksgiving, a full week off during Spring Break, PLUS two weeks vacation, sick leave, and full retirement aren't that easy to come by, particularly when you quit your last job in a snit and can't get a recommendation.
Two rules of life I've learned the hard way: don't bite the hand that feeds you and get a new job before you quit your old one.
And this is how totalitarianism will look in the United States when it is finally takes hold in a big way. We’re not Stalinist or Maoist - no one’s going to be killed or hauled off the hinderlands for a slow death in a prison camp. The American totalitarians will simply take away your job, your reputation, your career... maybe your house, if they think it’s appropriate. I can even hear the quiet, studied response from the totalitarians when they’re interviewed: “He’s just not the right candidate for the position. He’ll be able to find work somewhere. He’s made some bad choices. Students deserve someone with better judgment.” Under the soft smile is the snarling subtext - we could have shot you, but we’re compassionate people.
Coming to your town soon, like a cancer, slowly establishing itself here and there, until one day you realize that the dull ache you’ve lived with for many years actually means you’re about to die.
