A spokeswoman for Sen. John McCain today condemned comments by Iowa Rep. Steve King (R), who on Friday said terrorists would be "dancing in the streets" if Barack Obama is elected president.
"The Senator rejects the type of politics that degrades our civics and this campaign will be about the future of our country," Communications Director Jill Hazelbaker said. "[Sen.] McCain could not be clearer on how he views these types of comments and obviously that view extends to Congressman King's statement."
King, a three-term Republican, made the remarks to a radio station Friday as he announced his bid for another term in the House of Representatives.
"I don't want to disparage anyone because of their race," King told listeners of KICD, "their ethnicity, their name - whatever their religion their father might have been. I'll just say this: When you think about the optics of a Barack Obama potentially getting elected President of the United States -- I mean, what does this look like to the rest of the world? What does it look like to the world of Islam?"

McCain should have said, “I don’t think it would give aid and comfort to Terrorists if Obama wins, AS FAR AS I KNOW”.
LOL!
He is a democrat! (Well, almost anyway!)
“Just get it over with Mccain and run as a democrat.”
He’s trying to act like he’s “above the fray.” He better get used to ending his political career when he retires from the Senate, because the way he’s going his chances of winning the presidency in November are diminishing quickly.
Knew it was comming. Just...damn.
McCain wants to lose and let the harpy, his friend Hillary win.
Gee, John, do ya think you could cut this crap out and support the folks who reluctantly support you?
THIS, my friends, is another reason to not back McCain. What a dope.
Sorry your honor; I withdraw the question (cut away to scene of terrorists dancing in streets)...
John, Congressman King is right. That’s all that needs be said about it.
That’s it! I don’t care who wins because they are all losers.
This is not news!
LOL - McKein (as the illegals spell his name) is such a predictable tool of the DNC.
“The Senator rejects the type of politics that degrades our civics”
I guess that covers all the Mccain supporters here at FR.
Conservative speaks, McCain apologises to anyone and everyone that will listen, yawwwwwwn ...just another day in paradise.
Not only did McCain put himself above the fray, he managed to get King’s comment more publicity. It’s the old, “Don’t think of an elephant” technique. :)
Obama or Clinton is going run over him in the general if he doesn’t get tougher than this.
I guess McCain won’t have Mr. King standing beside him on the stage when he tries to campaign in Iowa.
I knew this was coming...sure as the sun will rise tomorrow.
It’s MeCain Way or McHighway for Conservatives one and all.
Gee, I wish there were a Republican candidate for POTUS in the race this year.
We had a couple of good choices, a couple of decent republican choices, yet we ended up with this lemon.
“{He is a democrat! (Well, almost anyway!)”
I think if McCain didn’t come from such a strong military tradition, he would be a Democrat. But most Dems. do “loathe the military’ and see its most appropriate use as a sort of international meals on wheels. If there were more Scoop Jackson Dems. still around, I feel sure McCain would be one of them.
Great point! I hadn’t heard of the Steve King comment til now.
It’s the same thing again,I didn’t think he really wanted to be CIC back in 2000 but only ran for the face time, and to make D friends...then there is the flirting with Kerry in 2004.......he’s doing it again! this guy does NOT want to be CIC!
True to his history once again. McCain ONLY gets mad at Republicans and conservatives.
Why doesn’t McCain just establish a political speech czar for his campaign to approve or censor these bothersome peons (including FR)? He can’t have folks just running around speaking their minds!
Who do you think McCain will choose as veep?
Hillary or Obama?
Or... will he just take whichever one loses the dem nomination?
“Or... will he just take whichever one loses the dem nomination?”
Lol, not sure if you’re joking or not because I bet he’d love to have Hillary.
a particularly sour one
What’s this??? I haven’t even read the thread yet, but CONgressman Steve King isn’t even a CONservative like the ignorant nominee... He’s a most of the time Liberal dude!!! (he’s been on our side only a couple of times/issues)
Isn’t it interesting that the candidate who is a product of Campaign Finance Reform (free-speech restriction) is now trying to impose restrictions on free speech during HIS campaign.
We can all either continue caterwauling about the abysmal state at the top of the GOP ballot, or we can vote in people down-ballot who will change back the timing of primaries and repeal CFR.
That’s my kind of change...........
Oooops! I was thinking of Peter King of NY!!! Sorry!
By the time this campaign is over McCain will have alienated everyone.
So just how does he intend to distinguish himself from the Dems?? If he is not willing to face the truth that they are soft on defense then he can’t draw any clear distinctions. In that case, they win.
So far, McCain has excused his outbursts against any Republican who says anything even remotely “unkind” about Obama by saying that he isn’t going to continence those kind of remarks at any of HIS rallies. Well, someone correct me if I’m incorrect that this comment wasn’t made at a McCain rally.
It would seem that McCain has decided that ANY remark by ANY conservative ANYWHERE about Obama will NOT BE TOLERATED!
Does John McCain have no concept of FREE SPEECH? Does he think somehow that his big social climbing match with Cindy and his big shot status in Washington gives him some kind of godlike control over free citizens?
The more I see of him, the more I just want to stay at home when voting time comes. I didn’t vote for him in the primaries, and may just pass in the general. If he keeps up this dictating what people can and cannot say even when NOT in his rallies, he might as well hang it up as far as I’m concerned. There’s a time and a place for things. A man who will not listen to ANYBODY but his own mouth scares me.
I’m trying real hard to support McCain and he keeps doing stuff like this. When did Rep. King lose his right to free speech, that Sen. McCain is entitled to tell him what he can and cannot say? Who asked him? This is of a piece with McCain’s record of disregard for the 1st Amendment. Sheeesh.
McCain and his staff are just too chicken hearted to come out from behind their phoney P.C. facade and come up with a righteous answer to THAT GLARING QUESTION!!! How cowardly for a "hero" to act!!! Judas Priest!!!
hey McCain...you only got about 1/3 of the Republican primary votes.
Maybe McCain is going to wait until after the convention to ask Obama if he can be his VP. All the experts are saying that Obama will have to pick a white guy who can carry a state Obama can’t. Here you go.
Who is the Constitution Party’s candidate? Will he be telling the truth about Obama?
C’mon you people...Join me in voting for Ralphie Nader!!! We don’t have to vote for this assinine jerk who is no longer a “hero,” but a cowardly little politician hiding behind his own special version of political correctness that even goes beyond liberal Demonicrats P.C. dictates!!!
ROTFL! McPuppet strikes again.
FWIW, Peter King is equally un-PC in his statements about democrats and islam.
I don’t know what his plan is. But he thinks he is on some noble campaign. He was a visious little shill running against GWB, and had no compunction about lying about Mitt Romney either.
Yeah... I was kidding (kind of)
60 Minutes did a piece on McCain last night whre he was talking about how the Republicans were wrong about the environment, how the party had to increase its base and reach out to democrats. If he wants to reach out, wouldn’t having Hillary as veep do the trick for him?
This election is sooooo painful!
You’re right! But do you think the frightened little P.C. Senatorial twit from AZ would ever take a lesson in courage from even Peter King??? As I said Peter’s been on the right side of at least a couple of issues and the WOT is one of ‘em!!!
Forget the Constitution Party for now! Vote for Nader the Arab with the GANG-GREEN Party and really hurt the Demonicrats with your vote. Voting Constitution Party won’t hurt or help anybody at this stage.
He may not be a conservative, but his remarks were fair game and shouldn’t have been denounced. The man was just pointing out that our enemies will appreciate the weaknesses of Obama. That should matter. Now McCain can argue about whether that is a true or false statement, but he is most inappropriate to argue that the statement should not be made.
I’ll be writing in the line for President.
Maybe. Or he might wait to repudiate some until after the election, like he did with Hagee. Use 'em first. I guess King was disadvantaged in that he served no immediate use.
>>this campaign will be about the future of our country,” Communications Director Jill Hazelbaker said.
LOL. Check this gal out.

What are her multiple FR screennames?
Over the weekend, I heard the campaign say that Rep King was not part of the campaign and it was kind of left there. Fine. But today they actually go through the trouble to aggravate his potential supporters with this nonsense. Bill Cunningham dropped his support -- maybe Rep King should also.
ROFL. I’d be willing to bet Jill is here somewhere. Jill, speak up!
You, Ghost, are profoundly CORRECT!!! No doubt about it!!!
