Update: Special Election Saturday in the 14th Congressional Race to Replace GOP Former House Speaker Hastert. . . Oberweis vs. Foster Posted by: mcpundit | February 28th, 2008 | Category: HASTERT RACE McPundit Comment:
Back in July, we had an exclusive that former House Speaker Dennis Hastert was retiring as our source told us his staff had been informed to start looking for jobs; but also in July, Hastert said, Im running. In October, he said he said he didnt plan to retire; and then SURPRISE, HE WAS JUST KIDDING, he not only announced his retirement but he was also retiring in mid-term.
This set up a February GOP Primary battle won by Jim Oberweis; who will now, because of Hasterts early retirement; run against Dem. Bill Foster in a special election Saturday.
Chicago Tribune: If fewer than four in 10 registered voters in Kane County turned out during the hype of the Super Tuesday presidential primary, the two candidates seeking to replace retired House Speaker Dennis Hastert in next weeks special election face quite a challenge.Im not optimistic, said Jack Cunningham, clerk of Kane County, about turnout prospects for March 8, a Saturday. About half of the voters in the 14th Congressional District live in Kane County.
Republican Jim Oberweis, 61, of Sugar Grove is competing against Democrat Bill Foster, 52, of Geneva.
Its certainly an interesting experiment. I hope it benefits turnout because thats certainly good for democracy, said Foster, a former Fermilab physicist.
Every election is about voter turnout, but the circumstances in the 14th District underscore the point.
Oberweis, known for his familys namesake dairy and three unsuccessful runs for governor and U.S. Senate, is hoping to maintain the lock Republicans have had on the district, including more than 20 years under the retired Hastert, whos backing Oberweis.
If you know anyone who lives in Kane County Illinois or the rest of the 14th district. Get them to the polls
PING!
I'm in a party crashing kind of mood.
Jim Oberweis is a defective candidate. The NRCC is foolish to be wasting money on this race, especially when Oberweis has plenty of his own money.
Why is he a “defective candidate?”
Oberweis is a less intelligent version of Mitt Romney. He changes positions every election cycle. For example in 2002, Oberweis compared pro-life Catholics to the Taliban and favored gun control and gay rights. Then in 2004, he supported an anti-gay marriage amendement and decried the illegal immigrant invasion. The local paper exposed the fact that Oberweis worked with a contractor who hired illegals. The media jumped on him for being dishonest about his positions.
Plus, Oberweis has a habit of attacking his primary opponents as being dirty RINOS and phony conservatives. While, portraying himself as the only true conservative. Despite the fact, he morphed from a RINO to Pat Buchanan clone in spawn of 6 years.
In addition to the points raised in Postin #6, Oberweis has an arrogant and abrasive manner which puts off voters.
(Is it just me or is FR search totally useless now? Can't specify search term or keyword, can't sort by date, etc.)

I guess that makes you foolish. And if you weren’t a lady, I’d have a much stronger response.
Any results yet?
I can’t find them anywhere.
Daily Herald has nothing. Wonder what’s going on.
This might be a link once the polls close.

At least he has spoken up against the Kjellander’s, the Celini’s and other .
He has been fighting against illegal immigration which is more than we can say for Bush and McCain.
Kjellander supported a RINO for governor in 06, the heck with him.
