LAREDO, Texas (CNN) Saturday morning, Mike Huckabee took a trip to the border he talks about securing at every campaign stop...
[snip]
Huckabee, a strong proponent of building a fence along the Southern border, told reporters that it was not about keeping people out, but keeping bad people out. He gave examples of drug and human traffickers as well as terrorists.
I dont resent that people want to come here. Ive always said I thank God every day Im in a country people are trying to break into, not in a country theyre trying to break out of, said Huckabee, flanked by Chuck Norris and Rep. Duncan Hunter who has built a fence in his Southern California district.
As the former Arkansas governor tries to drum up support among conservatives just days before the Texas primary, illegal immigration is one of the issues Huckabee has repeatedly used to differentiate himself from frontrunner John McCain.
He almost never mentions McCain by name but in Lubbock on Friday, Huckabee said hes the only candidate who believes the borders should be secured, as opposed to wholesale amnesty. ...

Who believes him?
He was just as bad as McCain on border security issues, then came around at the last moment only because he wanted the nomination. We are not fooled so easily.
The Fence/Wall is for keeping PEOPLE out!
Not Cows. Not Donkeys. Not Snakes. Not Roadrunners. Not Jackrabbits.
PEOPLE!
Anyone who crosses illegally is a "bad person". Nobody can cross legally at such places, outside the designated ports of entry.
What is this joker talking about? What planet is he on?!
His border visit is 10 years too late. And even then, he cannot get the story right. Pathetic.
He shouldn't dismiss the millions streaming across the border who have no intention of ever assimilating and whose allegiance will always reside with their home country. Allowing such people to come here in such overwhelming numbers will bring a slow death to America.
If you parse Huckabee’s words, its still just bullcrap and denies the severity and essence of the problem of our country being taken over by balkanization due to this open border which let PEOPLE across.
well, if there is a fence, they will be kept out unless they decide to go the legal route and apply just like everyone else
As far as Huckabee is concerned, he has a record on illegal immigration, and just like his opponent's, it ain't pretty.
well in NYC we’d be lucky if everything was only in english or spanish. Instead, everything is in english and spanish and chinese and russian and arabic and korean and...
for example
https://a858-ihss.nyc.gov/ihss1/en_US/IHSS_languageSelectionPage.do
Instead of English sharing a website (or phone menu) equally with Spanish, or Korean, or German, or Chinese or some such other nonsense, there should be one document in REGULAR English, and then one in SIMPLIFIED ENGLISH.
Wean the Spanish, Korean, German, Chinese speakers OFF OF THEIR NATIVE LANGUAGE and temporarily on to "EASY ENGLISH". They then build up their skills and understanding, vocabularly and confidence, and before you know it, they transition into regular English usage for daily life. Nobody learns English overnight or at the snap of a hand. I know this from my fluency in a number of languages. However, on the other hand, I know if I were never weaned off of English, I would NEVER have learned the other languages. This principle will work for those coming to the USA.
This, in my mind, is far more humane and I would not object to my tax dollars spent in this manner in lieu of outright bilingualization or what not of US services. The Balkanization and "empuje el numero dos para Espanol" have to GO.

Among others, Congressman Hunter apparently does.

That isn’t true. Governor Huckabee has advocated strong border security throughout the campaign. Here’s an example of what happened if anyone tried to point that out here last fall:

“AmericanInTokyo” wrote: “Anyone who crosses illegally is a ‘bad person’. Nobody can cross legally at such places, outside the designated ports of entry. What is this joker talking about?”
Governor Huckabee is talking about keeping out “anyone who crosses illegally”—and he isn’t a joker.

I’m pretty sure Texas is here on the earth.
Is he looking for more recruits for in-state tuition in Arkansas?
you also have to remember...much of that website is about government services such as food stamps, medicaid, etc. They want more people to get those benefits.
We have to stop being the el gran gravy tren of the world.
“He shouldn’t dismiss the millions streaming across the border who have no intention of ever assimilating and whose allegiance will always reside with their home country.”
Are you suggesting Governor Huckabee is dismissing that problem?
PS I do not support Mr. Huckabee as does Mr. Hunter. That is his right. However, dont count me aboard in support of an Open Borders Governor or an Open Borders Senator for that matter.
I outright stated it; I didn’t just suggest it.
yeah I don’t believe that legal immigrants should get any govt aid except for perhaps something catastrophic that occurs after they become citizens. Send us those yearning to breathe free but not your tired and poor.
same here, tho I would rather see Huckabee nominated over McCain.
Are tuning into Terry Anderson tonite?
I will probably watch Ecuador, Venezuela and Colombia all go to war tonight instead. Sorry.
Are you serious? What’s going on down there?
“If you parse Huckabees words, its still just ******** and denies the severity and essence of the problem of our country being taken over by balkanization due to this open border which let PEOPLE across.”
Nothing in Governor Huckabee’s words above denies the problem of balkanization—a problem we can control once we know who’s completed citizenship classes and who hasn’t.
We can hope.
Both Ecuador and Venezuela are getting mobilized for a possible joint strike on Colombia, because the US backed Colombian government, under their President Uribe, went into Ecuador a few days ago and killed a top communist, pro-Venezulea/Ecuador terrorist leader of the leftist FARC guerrilla group who had been getting sanctuary on Ecuadorian soil, and who also is now shown to have had ties to Ecuador's leftist leadership. Now things are moving fast.
“I outright stated it ...”
Actually you didn’t.
wow, I need to pay more attention. I haven’t seen any news shows at all this weekend.
the colombian/venezuelan/ecuadorian stuff is here: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1979226/posts
I guess you haven’t been to the Hucksters’ home town. I believe a little trip might change your mind. ;0)
Compare Huckabee with McCain:
MC CAIN:
Senator McCain supports human embyronic stem cell research, and according to the late Henry Hyde wanted to weaken the pro-life plank in the GOP platform.
McCain supported the ICC (where the International Criminal Court would be judging Americans).
He also was part of the gang of 14, which has stopped President Bush’s judicial nominess for circuit courts, etc. from going to the floor for an up or down vote.
I heard a couple of McCain’s colleagues say on the radio that he went against the leadership, when the Republicans had the majority, including the culture issues.
McCain voted AGAINST drilling in ANWR, which tells me that he won’t support drilling ANYWHERE in our OIL-RICH COUNTRY. MEANWHILE, China is drilling offshore of Florida.
John McCain is also the senator that liberal Democrats come to when they want a senator from the Republican side of the aisle. For instance: McCain/Feingold (limits free speech); McCain/Kennedy (amnesty); McCain/Lieberman (50 cents per gallon gas tax increase).
Senator McCain’s pro-illegal immigration stance would hurt our national security, as border security is national security. Known terrorists have been caught crossing our borders.
HUCKABEE:
Duncan Hunter was the most conservative, but he dropped out and ENDORSED Huckabee.
Minuteman Gilchrist, Weyrich, and other great conservatives, also endorsed Huckabee.
No one is better than Huckabee on protecting our 2nd amendent rights.
And Huckabee is truly pro-life, and is AGAINST human embryonic stem cell research (unlike McCain).
Huckabee understands the Red China threats.
While not perfect, Huckabee is far better than McCain, Hillary or Obama!
==
HUCKABEE has a point. Wish folks were buying Made in U.S.A. stuff, so there would be U.S.A. jobs.
“One of the concerns that I have is that we’ll probably end up
borrowing this $150 billion from the Chinese and when we get those
rebate checks, most people are going to go out and buy stuff that’s
been imported from China.”
Above is link for the debate transcript.
“Only the slick words are designed in the November-December 2007 time frame by his aides to confuse and fool.”
The link below is to video from a debate last September. Governor Huckabee’s answer at about 31:55 proves that what you’ve said above isn’t true:

Mike who?
“Mike who?”
You call yourself a Christian, but you don’t act like one.
Thank you Kurt for your input.
“Thank you Kurt for your input.”
*lol*
You still ought to apologize for the false accusation in post #16, but #33 is definitely much more Christlike.
If I add anything to it, it will just stir the pot even more, so, well, thank you again for your input.
