It's no slur to be called a Muslim
The Guardian ^ | March 01 | Naomi Klein

It's no slur to be called a Muslim The turban photos affair was a missed chance for Obama. If he really is to repair the world, he must tackle this Islamophobia.

Sure she did. And George Bush put on a poncho in Santiago, while Paul Wolfowitz burned up YouTube with his anti-malarial African dance routines while World Bank president. The obvious difference is this: when white politicians go ethnic, they look funny; when a black presidential contender does it, he looks foreign - and when the ethnic apparel in question is vaguely reminiscent of the clothing worn by Iraqi and Afghan fighters (at least to many Fox viewers, who think any headdress other than a baseball cap is a declaration of war on America), the image is downright frightening.

The turban "scandal" is all part of what is being referred to as "the Muslim smear". It includes everything from exaggerated enunciations of Obama's middle name (Hussein) to the online whisper campaign that Obama attended a fundamentalist madrasa in Indonesia (a lie), was sworn in on a Qur'an (another lie), and if elected would attach speakers to the White House to broadcast the Muslim call to prayer (I made that one up).

So far Obama's campaign has responded with aggressive corrections that tout his Christian faith, attack the attackers and channel a cooperative witness before the House Un-American Activities Committee. "Barack has never been a Muslim or practised any other faith besides Christianity," states one fact sheet. "I'm not and never have been of the Muslim faith," Obama told a Christian News reporter.

Obama might have something to be afraid of. It seems foolish for a grown man who is running for president to be shy about his middle name. There are some things candidates who are running for national offices should expect and roll with. Maybe Obama is worried about his connections with radical groups or his brothers connection with radical Islam. Obama has a little dirt beneath his squeaky clean facade. His liberation theology is enough to scare me off. His Marxism runs deep.

Islamophobia is a very healthy stance, well, that is if one values life and is not Muslim.

Islam, a Religion of Peace?

No, it is a religion... of cutting up us nonbelievers into pieces.

If the Baptist... or Episcopalians called for all not in their sects be beheaded, would we still give them tax-exempt status--

And 1st Amendment... protection?

“As the most visible target of this rising racism, Obama has the power to be more than its victim. He can use the attacks to begin the very process of global repair that is the most seductive promise of his campaign.”

Global repair? does that phrase scare you? Thinking about it in the context of a liberal demoncrat scares me.

Yes, it's like voting for a Japanese President in 1940, (during World War II, For you who went to public schools).

Re: I was referring to the article not your post.

Okay, otherwise, I'd have to... burn a few crosses on your front lawn!

BTW You know, Hitler's mouthpiece, Joseph Goebbels, always countered any objection to the Nazis modus operandi by calling it a complete and total lie.

Now, change 'lie' to 'racism,' and you have Obama's campaign and the whole Liberal Democrat political strategy in a nutshell.

Yet, they would call me a racists... for pointing this out.

Nein! Little Joe... just called you a complete and total liar!

Ja ja! Dr. Gobbles never said your comment was racist.... He did say it was dumb!

I said it was... a complete and total lie!

What Bender said about Obama... is complete and total racism!

I rest... my case

Obama Campaign Complains About Use of Middle Name

Drawing a parallel to the publication of cartoons of Mohammed, a spokesman for Senator Barack Obama’s presidential campaign, denounced use of the candidate’s middle name—Hussein—as “dirty politics.”

“Inserting Senator Obama’s middle name into public discourse is just as wrong as it would be to publish an image of the Prophet Mohammed (may peace be upon him),” said Fetid Miasma, deputy chairman of Obama’s Texas campaign. “It’s mocking his heritage at a time when we should all be coming together as one.”

“We’re not going around saying Hillary RODHAM Clinton,” Miasma pointed out, noting that, “We are above the pettiness of pointing out that Senator Clinton’s middle name has the word ‘ham’ in it and that this could greatly hamper our country’s dealings with Muslim nations should she become president.”

We can be afraid of Obama for a lot of things (abortion, taxes, national security, judges, etc.), and even the muslim thing if it were true. There was no oath on the koran....yet the charge sticks. I don't like Obama, but I think casting him as a muslim without some real solid provable evidence makes our side look bad.

I am open to changing my mind if anyone has SOLID evidence. {And please not those emails I keep getting.)

Obama doesn't like remarks about his big ears. He doesn't like being called a liberal. It's an insult to use his middle name. He emphatically says that he's not a Muslim and is now a Christian.

Although his father and step-father were both Muslims, as are a number of his living relatives, and he went to a Wahabi madrassa when he was a child he says that he was a secular student there and never a Muslim. OK, I don't know that that isn't true.

Not very believable though and if he says he's a Christian now, and presumably settled with that or 'convicted' as Christians say, it shouldn't be a problem for him.

So I have one question... Is Obama proud of anything that he is?

Maybe that's where he got his hope for change thing.

Well that’s interesting. I hadn’t realized that photo would get the left-wingers mad at him — for too aggressively rejecting the insinuations of that photo. I’ve been assuming that the Democrats are so hungry for a presidential victory that their candidate has a free leash on just about everything, but I might be underestimating the tidal pull of identity politics.

The obvious answer to this is that we have two different standards by which individuals are to be judged. My feeling is that if he did’nt want to be seen in mussie garb he should’nt have worn it. That being said, the MSM tries to paint everything negative said about Obama with a racial tinge. Just look at the uproar over his given middle name. He talks about getting beyond race but resorts to a “victim status” whenever it suits his purpose. Grab the popcorn. It’s going to be a fun 9 months.

Instead of McCain Apologizing and The Republicans running in fear - they need to turn the tables.

It could go like this. Hussein is a semitic name that comes from the hebrew “good” or “handsome”.
Mr. and Mrs. Obama should be proud of the name and encourage people to use it. Educate people about it’s orgins. Instead, Mr. Obama wants to hide the fact that this name was given to him by his father. Who happened to be a Devout black muslim from Africa. He should be proud of the fact that his white mother family has been in the US for hundreds of years. He should be honoring his white roots as well as his black roots.

By using his middle name we are showing respect for his muslim father and step father. To hide the name or not use it shows disrespect to his being born into the muslim faith.

It's no slur to be called a Muslim

BARACK HUSSEIN
Tune: "Danke Schoen"

Barack Hussein, call him Barack Hussein
Claim the name for the fall campaign
Muslim roots, no need to explain
It's a change of plan, no more ban
Yes we can say Hussein

Barack Hussein, call him Barack Hussein
Use it more, no I'm not insane
Don't delete, it won't mean defeat
If we just convince--please don't wince
Lather, rinse, and repeat

Barack Hussein, call him Barack Hussein
Pop the cork, time to drink champagne
I predict change will happen quick
Names in Arabic, take your pick
Soon will click, do the trick

Barack Hussein, call him Barack Hussein
Middle name, least it isn't Wayne
Though it hangs like a thunder cloud
Never mind the crowd, say it loud
Say it proud, Barack Hussein

Barack Hussein, oh call him Barack Hussein
I said, middle name, least it isn't Wayne
Though it hangs like a thunder cloud
Never mind the crowd, say it loud
Say it proud, Barack Hussein

Barack Hussein, name like McCain, Barack Hussein
