Drinking Coffee "[she's] single now in her 40’s for the first time"

Is she single for the first time? Divorced for the 1st time since turning 40?  Or is she in her 40's for the first time?  If it's the latter, please ping me when she get's in her 40's for the second time. I'll spend a lot of money to learn that secret.   :-)

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Some sanity here on FR on this thread.

The man commits suicide and it is a tragedy, of course. But, as you so rightly state, so many children that end up abused in this way kill themselves, or end up addicted to alcohol or drugs because of predators like this.

One of my family members was molested by a pervert like this. He’s a homosexual now. He will tell you he was ‘born’ that way but I can’t help but wonder if his life would’ve been different had he not been sexually molested by his boss when he was just a 16 year old kid trying to make a few bucks washing dishes at a little local restaurant.

What did they do, run out of Chevy pickup trucks to blow up the gas tanks or markets to plant rotten meat?

um, not if it’s outside their jurisdiction.

So why did the Murphy Police Department go into a different county to arrest?

NBC had their fingerprints all over this, and now they’re gonna pay.

In fact, NBC persuaded the cops to show up at the DA’s house instead, and do the arrest there, since the DA didn’t act like the good predator they wanted him to be.

Spot on.

They’re gonna get hammered.

They will. Juries are very spiteful towards outfits as big as NBC.

With out of control juries these days awarding humongous punitive damages against big corporations, I see NBC losing huge.

I can't believe how many of you Nancys are cryin' about the actions of NBC here. This show may be their greatest redeeming virtue.

As for entertaining, the only thing better would be if they executed the perps live on the air right after the "OH SNAP!" look fades from their face.

It is entrapment. That doesn’t make it illegal. Its like offering Marion Barry crack - if your point is to show he is willing to do crack then you’ve made your point. If you try to stretch that and say he would have sought out crack - that may not be true.

I think this is a little different in that if you give Marion Barry crack, you have committed a crime to get him to commit one.

I just don’t see this so much as a statement against big corporation as it’s some greedy twit looking to collect $$ from a big target with deep pockets, all because her brother the perv got caught and for the price of one round, saved the good people of Texas the expense of a lengthy trial and rehab.

Makes you wonder if people are more anti-corporation than they are anti-pedophile. *shrug*

I'm all for capturing and severely punishing perverts but what these people (NBC) were doing was so close to entrapment it is hard to see the difference IMO.

Uh...'close'? How much closer could it be?

"What political party did he belong to?"

According to this online website, he was a Democrat:

http://www.bannerofliberty.com/BOL-06MQC/11-8-2006.1.html

There's a couple of paragraphs about 3/4's down.

In 2004, he donated money to Kerry:

Conradt, Louis Jr (Self employed/Attorney), (Zip code: 75160) $250 to JOHN KERRY FOR PRESIDENT INC on 06/30/04

And in 2003 he gave money to Clark:

Conradt, Louis W Jr (Louis W. Conradt Jr./Attorney), (Zip code: 75160) $250 to CLARK FOR PRESIDENT INC on 09/21/03

True, it’s not really a good analogy, but I do see a great danger when arrests are done in obeisance to the media and not sworn peace officers.

I’m not at all protecting this guy’s behavior, by the way. I’m protesting the whole Dateline-instituted law enforcement drive to his house, cameras in tow, to interview him and film his being arrested, rather than the logical action...giving him the arrest warrant at his office.

It sounds too much like what happened in Waco, where the ATF set up this huge, spectacular arrest of Koresh to get some good camera time so they would look good for the then-ongoing ATF budget hearings.

It’s not right when the scene is being directed by people who aren’t peace officers, haven’t been trained in the law, and haven’t sworn an oath to uphold that law, but are instead TV producers trying to orchestrate some good camera shots.

Ed

My point. Look at some of the responses I got - They run the gamut. There doesn’t seem to be a consensus on whether there is entrapment or not.

That aside, the participation of video media for entertainment/ratings purposes makes me sick. In this case they even went with the police to capture the arrest for the entertainment of the masses. This for certain had no law-enforcement value and was purely gratuitous IMO.

Thanks for the additional details. I never thought I’d say this, but (at least in this case), I hope NBC prevails. IMO, Dateline is one of NBC’s very few programs with any redeeming social value, perhaps their only program. Every kid with internet access should watch this show, as should every parent.

Seriously,

they’re can’t say no when offered a chance to meet their ‘date/victim’. The compulsion is that strong.

Should be like shooting fish in a barrel.

Darn, that was an terribly constructed sentence. In my defense, I’m a physicist - I’m not expected to be literate.

I do see your point.

Although, apparently , like with setting up a fake pawn shop to buy stolen good, apparently law enforcement can get sanction to do something that would be illegal.

And you probably have committed some kind of offense if you pretend to be a child trying to have sex with an adult.

But I get your point - there is a difference in those two cases I suggested were similar.

Nonetheless, I hope this lawsuit is not successful. I support protecting rights of bad people as a way to preserve rights for all - like letting the Nazi march through Jewish neighborhoods. But there is no right to solicit children for sex - its not preserving a right for the rest of us.

They did more than that, they helped to create the story. Journalists are supposed to report the news, not help to make it.
