Eight people, including five under the age of 15, were shot at a bus stop south of downtown Los Angeles this afternoon, officials said.
Witnesses told police that a man opened fire multiple times into a crowd waiting for buses at Central and Vernon avenues shortly after 3 p.m. The gunman exited a bus and argued with someone on the street before firing his weapon, said LAPD Cmdr. Andy Smith.
"It appears he was shooting indiscriminately into the crowd at the bus stop. It was a busy area and it is not clear who he was shooting at, but he hit these poor souls at the bus stop," said Smith, who added that the victims included both Latinos and African Americans.
A 12-year-old girl and a 49-year-old woman were critically wounded but were expected to survive, police said. Authorities said the gunshot to the 12-year-old girl passed through her chest. The gunman also wounded four other children, ranging in age from 10 to 14, as well as a 48-year-old man and a 68-year-old man, police said. None of those injuries were as serious, police said.
(Earlier, police said several people had walked up and fired multiple rounds and said the victims totaled five juveniles and two adults.)
The suspect was described as a black man in his early 20s, with braided hair, said LAPD spokesman Lt. Ruben de la Torre. Witnesses said the man was wearing a white T-shirt and appeared to be about 5 feet 7 and 160 pounds, he said.
Police described the shooting scene -- a couple of blocks from George Washington Carver Middle School where students had recently been dismissed for the day -- as chaotic. De la Torre said it was unclear immediately who the gunman's intended target was.

I am complete agreement. I have watched Dragnet2's incessant attempts to paint LA as crimeless. Who cares if there is more crime in any other city? These folks at the bus stop got shot to hell just the same.
Do you work for the Raza Dn2? We in Los Angeles are long used to Mexican gang crime. We are now seeing Mexican cartels come over the border specifically to commit contract murder and kidnappings here in LA., and the surrounding areas that dragnet2 and Police Chief Bratton don't give a damn about.
Why don't these crimes seem to concern you? Why don't these people matter?
Dragnet2 always refuses to acknowledge the crime in surrounding areas. He doesn't mention the rise of crime in places like Riverside as the gang idiots and their ignorant familes move on to other counties and other states and spread their mayhem.
Dragnet2 can stick his crime charts where the sun don't shine.

On Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at 3:17 PM, 3 Companies of Los Angeles Firefighters, 7 LAFD Rescue Ambulances, 2 EMS Battalion Captains, 1 Battalion Chief Officer Command Team, DOT, L.A. Unified School Police and LAPD Newton Division, all under the Unified Command of LAFD and LAPD, responded to a reported SHOOTING incident at 1066 E. Vernon Av. in the South Los Angeles/Newton area.
Frantic calls into the OCD Dispatch Center indicated that several people had been shot and were down in the parking lot of Jack in the Box, located at the intersection of Vernon and Central . Fire personnel responded to the scene and staged in a safe location until the scene had been determined secure to enter by LAPD. Firefighters found several individuals of different ages with a variety of injuries. As the patients were being assessed and treated, Fire personnel were alerted to two additional patients that were located at a near by middle school, who had fled there seeking refuge and safety from the shooting incident. Another patient walked up late into the incident with minor injuries.
All were quickly assessed and provided triage tags indicating the severity of their individual injuries. Four were transported from the incident in critical condition, all females ages 11, 12, 10 and 49. There were 4 patients that received minor injuries, three males, 14, 48 and 69 and one 12 year old female. All patients were transported to area hospitals.
I checked out your list. I went to Junior HS with the entire Culver City Boyz gang, then at Venice High School it was the Venice V13 gang. All of them were mindless killers. Venice wore the blue snot rag and CC, the red snot rag.
The wrong color could get you killed in a heartbeat. They would attack each other until they were exhausted with casualties. Try 75 casualties in 2 or 3 months.
I wanted to kill both sides myself.

I used to have elementary school students tell me horror stories about sneaking away in the dead of night, running for their lives and being shot at with their families...by the Mexican drug cartels and the crooked policia. Looks like they’re going to have to sneak across the border all over again. Exactly where is the new border?
