Documents related to the Blumenthal DWI charge.
NASHUA A judge agreed Tuesday to postpone the trial of a Clinton campaign adviser accused of speeding through Nashua while intoxicated.
Sidney Blumenthal, 59, of Washington, D.C., had been scheduled to stand trial on an aggravated DWI charge Thursday in Nashua District Court, but his case has been postponed to April 7, at his lawyer's request, court documents show.
Blumenthal's lawyer, retired Hudson police Capt. Ray Mello, of Nashua, could not be reached for comment Tuesday.
It is common for cases to be postponed, in part to give both sides time to think and talk about whether the case will be tried or resolved through a plea agreement, said Capt. Peter Segal, the head of the police prosecution office.
Blumenthal served as an adviser to former President Clinton for several years and is working as a volunteer adviser to New York Sen. Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign.
He was arrested after midnight Jan. 7, a day before the New Hampshire primary. Sgt. Michael Masella reported that he spotted Blumenthal's rented Buick heading north on Concord Street in the area of Greeley Park, allegedly at about 70 mph.The speed limit on that stretch of road is 30 mph, and the alleged speed raised the charge to aggravated DWI, a misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in jail and a mandatory minimum of three days in jail and seven days in an alcohol treatment center.
Masella said Blumenthal said he was on his way from a Manchester restaurant to his hotel and admitted he was lost.
Police said Blumenthal performed a field sobriety test but refused to take a breath test, which triggers a 180-day suspension of his right to drive under state law. Evidence of his refusal will be admissible, if the case is tried.
It's not clear whether the New Hampshire administrative suspension would have any effect in the District of Columbia, where Blumenthal lives.
Let’s give Sid credit for not drowning any campaign babes in a brackish inland waterway.
Guess that will keep him out of the news for the Hillary do or die primary's.
Blumenthal like a good lib wouldn’t even have been in the bar in NH if it weren’t smoke free thanks to the Masshole invasion. Than he wouldn’t have had all those drinks.
This is really anti tobacco’s fault.
Excellent sing-a-long video, dfu!
It’s priceless!
Hahahahahahahahaha!
Good one, Phil!
heheheee!
So, all the primaries are over by April 7?
Besides being a drunk, I once read that Sid Blumenthal is a wife beater, too.
The two things probably go hand in hand.
