What a joke, you can rise the fine by a 100% and it don't mean spit as long as you have someone as incompetent as jerkoff and jorge running it.

Here in the Pacific Northwest there have been numerous ICE raids. Of course it only makes the news up here because it is bad news. “New immigrants taken from homes...” “Employees stay away from work...”

If Americans started boycotting companies that knowing hired illegals, we might see some reaction from these traitorous companies, Congress, and the do-nothing Bush administration. The reluctance of consumers to put their money where their mouth is allows the agricultural, meat, and service industries to get away with their crimes (incl. murders committed by their “employees”).

If the feds want to stop it (illegal hiring), then make the first offense the stated 25% increase of the fines. For a second offense, make the fine 5 million dollars for each illegal hired. In order to stop the practice by businesses of using illegals make it affect the bottom line for the business owner. If the business owners simply pay the fine, and the bottom line is not hurt (severely) the business owner will continue using the illegals. Hurt the business owner severely for using illegals and the practice of using illegals will stop. If a business is using illegals, that business owner has no business in being treated fairly by the United States. Put the illegals out of a job, and they will go home, and Americans will find out who is actually in our country. Get serious, and most illegals will leave within 90 days.

They can’t enforce it until they remove the word knowingly or require them to use E-verify.

They just have to say “we didn’t know”.

Just to put this in perspective-- last year they doubled the fees for legal immigrants.

My son-in-law, a conservative, hardworking, English-sepaking graduate of a U.S. university has to pay $1500 rather than $750 for a legal work permit.

The Administration and Congress both need to step up to the plate. A better system for immigration status verification should be developed along with data sharing between the IRS and other agencies. Many companies are caught in a difficult situation between immigration laws and discrimination laws. Congress knows what must be done but the rats and rinos will not do it.

"this is meaningless w/o enforcement"

It was detemined back in the 90s that civil prosecutions/fines were not effective so INS began prosecuting as criminal violations.

The immigration hardliners have complained that Bush wasn't doing enough workplace enforcement so he began going back to civil prosecutions.

Its a big waste of resources that is being done only to placate the hardliners. Its a slap on the wrist/cost of doing business.

The only plate our treasonous congress is stepping up to is their own plate. congress expects their plate to always be full of money, while protecting the nation goes in the wastebasket....sorry businessprofessor but this situation could be solved, but because it continues on, this situation is costing Citizens their lives. I am angry. My anger is not directed at you.

You can raise the fines as high as you like. It’s a business expense. Jail time for those who hire illegals will do the tirck.

I agree that the problem could solved if you could get Congress to agree to a solution. The rats want a huge amnesty with welfare for all. The rats know that a new amnesty will mean permanent rat control of government. We will have a situation like Mexico with one party control. An amnesty will lead to open borders and chaos with hundreds of millions of new immigrants demanding welfare benefits, affirmative action, and Spanish language mandates.

Pathetic.
How about a 3 month jail term per illegal employee, with no time off for good behavior.

Finish building the fence.
It should be made a felony for Criminals who overstay their visas or just Invade.

I believe we should give amnesty to these poor CRIMINALS or INVADERS.
This should be a 2 week amnesty to get the heck out of our Country.
The ones who ignore this amnesty should be buried in a tent city jail and fined $10,000 or buried elsewhere.
All aiders and abettors of these CRIMINALS or INVADERS should get 1 year in a tent city jail and a $10,000 fine for each CRIMINAL aided.
Those in government should be the first ones charged.

Our government is the LARGEST employer of illegal aliens. Are they going to fine themselves?

Fines for Businesses mean diddly squat unless they're in the $100K per Illegal hire range. What would be more effective would be mandatory JAIL TIME per offense. Even if it was as little as 30 days in the County Jail.

For a fact, NO Volvo driving Yuppie managing the Human Resource Dept. (or the Company owner) wants to spend his nights being sodomized by his 6'-6", 280# tattooed cell-mate named Bubba (or Linoel) -- then being gang raped in the shower by Jose and his amigos in the Latin Kings.

Having that fate hanging over your head for hiring ONE Illegal will put the fear of God into you real quick and it'll get you right with the law pdq.

(no offense meant to criminals doing time named Bubba or Lionel.)
