Israel won't recognize Kosovo, for now

Israel will not recognize Kosovo's independence at this time, and is watching developments in Brussels and elsewhere before it makes a final decision on the issue, officials in Jerusalem told The Jerusalem Post on Monday, a day after Kosovo's parliament declared independence from Serbia.

"We haven't decided when we're going to decide, and instead will monitor events and consider the issue," said an Israeli official who deals with the Balkans.

Could be some benefits to Israel to recognize Kosovo. But perhaps it wouldn’t hurt to wait and see if Russia has any intent WRT the matter of the existence of an independent Kosovo.

Israel better does not recognize this faux “state”.
Ariel Sharon was very right with his comments on Kosovo back then. Israel has everything to lose from this precedent.
On the other hand Olmert might be indeed stupid enough to accept “Kosovo”.

Absolutely. Russia has said the same, and this decision by Kosovo will give impetus to the Palestinians to declare statehood outside of any brokered deal by us or an E.U. ruling.

I agree. Legitimizing this stolen Serbian territory by official Israeli recognition would only encourage muslims in Israel. And in “Palestine”. And in the Philippines. And in Europe. And in ...

Nonsense. Kosovo is undeveloped and desperately needs bank finance.

What the Hell is there to consider? Israel should never recognize Kosovo.

So what!? How is this related to our previous comments? Palestine is equally undeveloped and desperately needs money (the money the world is throwing in mysteriously ends up as bombs and weapons).
What an utterly incoherent response...

Israel is right in not recognizing them. I think they should hold off on recognition until the UN grants them a seat on the Human Rights Commission. I’m sure that it is time for yet another brutally opressive anti-Semitic state to chair it.

It’s in all of the free world’s interest to stand against the Jihadist state of Kosovo.

Israel is reluctant to recognize Kosovo for two reasons:
1. it’s own problem with Palestine and Arabs living in Israel,
2. growing economic relations with Serbia, particularly in fields of telecommunications and military industry.
In fact, the only thing pushing the Israelis into recognition of Kosovo is pressure from the gov. of USA. I have no doubts that Israel will eventually recognize Kosovo, but at least they have the brains to postpone it as long as possible. Otherwise they can hand over their business with Serbia to the Chinese.
