But all it takes is something stupid, like the kill vehicle not seperating or some motor not firing or Lordy knows what and the whole CONCEPT of the system will get tarred and feathered. Right ... which is why I suspect they're planning to fire two or three of these puppies, to protect against one-off failures of the interceptor system.
I agree with you about the "single sample" problem. Seems like a lot of folks have difficulty considering facts in context.

You all in Hawaii break out the cameras. Hmm, just checked Heavens-above.com for visible passes for Hawaii and came up empty. What is the Google kmz file you got?

Ah, never mind, got the kmz file from the article.
To: Red Badger
I hope they put a camera on it.
If we miss, we can let the Chinese shhot it down.

The stricken spy satellite marked for destruction by US warships will pass over the taped-off area just at this time...I wonder who got the contract for all of that yellow "crime scene" tape...

If we miss, it’ll come back around in 90 minutes or so a little farther to the east or west depending on its direction of orbit. So we can have multiple shots.........

I wonder if this spy-sat isn't a dummy target that they launched just for this. When was it launched? Before/after the Chinese planned their demo?

Also known by its other designator, “The OOPS Flight”.
To: Red Badger
Yeah, but the ships can't move too far in that time, and the debris field may start including Hawaii.
The article says all three ships can make the shot, so if it going to work at all, that should do it.
To: bicyclerepair
We’re gonna miss, you know.

I wonder if they are banking on a direct hit or a frontal explosion?..........like the early Patriot missiles vs. SCUDS?...........

Sticking it to the ocean is only half of the battle - it’s even tougher to stick it to the atmosphere in order to cordon off the airspace...
