House leaders blocked a good piece of legislation that would give our intelligence community the tools they need to protect America from a terrorist attack. And so now the House and Senate are off on a 12-day recess without getting the people's business done. And when they come back from that 12-day recess, the House leaders must understand that the decision they made to block good legislation has made it harder for us to protect you, the American people ~ President Bush
the Protect America Act has helped us obtain valuable insight on terrorist activities and it has led to the disruption of terrorist attacks. And unfortunately, tomorrow night [Saturday] that law will expire But the issue really here is why is the House leadership, Democratic leadership, blocking a bipartisan bill? ~ Deputy Press Secretary Scott Stanzel
This morning President Bush, along with Vice President Cheney, met with Republican Congressional leaders in the Oval Office to discuss the FISA extension billand the need for Pelosi and her vacationing rats in the House to give it a fair vote. The bill passed the Senate earlier this week with a 68-vote majority. (Transcript)
Attending the meeting were House Minority Whip Roy Blunt, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, Senator Jon Kyl and House Minority Leader John Boehner who led Republicans yesterday in a walkout, protesting the Democrats decision to play politics with our national security.
Later this morning, the president met with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon in the Oval Office and discussed Iran, Burma and Africa. (Transcript)
Also at this meeting were Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, National Security Advisor Stephen Hadley and Press Secretary Dana Perino.
In other news, it was announced today that the president will welcome Pope Benedict XVI to the White House on Wednesday, April 16. This will be his first visit to the US as Pope. (Transcript)
And this afternoon, President & Mrs. Bush departed for their 6 day tour of Africa. They are scheduled to arrive in the country of Benin tomorrow.
Enjoy your visit to Sanity Island

Quote of the Day:
President Bush: This morning I spoke to the president of Northern Illinois University. I told the president that a lot of folks today would be praying for the families of the victims, and for the Northern Illinois University community. Obviously a tragic situation on that campus, and I ask our fellow citizens to offer their blessings -- blessings of comfort and blessings of strength.

hi
Thanks for the ping and letting us visit Sanity Island

President Bush: The American citizens must understand -- clearly understand that there still is a threat on the homeland, there's still an enemy which would like to do us harm, and that we've got to give our professionals the tools they need to be able to figure out what the enemy is up to so that we can stop it.

President Bush: The Senate passed a good bipartisan bill that makes sure our intelligence community has the tools necessary to protect America from this real threatAnd this bill comes to the House of Representatives and it was blocked.
And by blocking this piece of legislation our country is more in danger of an attack. By not giving the professionals the tools they need, it's going to be a lot harder to do the job we need to be able to defend America.

President Bush: And so now the House and Senate are off on a 12-day recess without getting the people's business done. And when they come back from that 12-day recess, the House leaders must understand that the decision they made to block good legislation has made it harder for us to protect you, the American people, and we expect them to get a good bill to my desk -- which is the Senate bill -- as soon as possible.

The failure of the Democrats to vote on the FISA bill is truly a disgrace. Every one of them should be out of Office because, obviously, they care nothing about the safety of America or her citizens.
Even though I know it does no good, I called Pelosi’s office. We needed people to flood the phones of all the Dim Congresspeople.....just as they did with the ILLEGAL immigration bill. But, I doubt many people knew about this....very, very frustrating.
Thanks, :)

I agree 4intergrity.. I was so upset over this -you can see the frustration on POTUS’ face
Evening!

Great Dose jonny & love the colors in the opening “info” section.
Thank you. For once I am here early but so tired think I will crash soon. I am glad Laura is going on this trip with him. I know she offers him a lot of support

I know, I know, NO politics on the Dose, I’m seriously biting my tongue here!!
Condi doesn’t look happy, either. The President and his administration are charged with protecting us and the Dems are playing games.
I’m so mad, I can’t type what I’m thinking.

I agree. I wonder how many more of these stunts they can pull before people see that thes democrats are not only unpatriotic, but traitorous too.
Howdy :) How are you?
Hi, Dolly :) Good to see you here early ;)
“Howdy :) How are you?”
I’m ok, got troubles like everyone else but I’m ok. Good grief, I sound like that character off of Saturday Night Live!
But I guess they deserve the rest--undermining our national security can be exhausting.
silent_jonny: GREAT DOSE and I agree with the other DOSERs, the Democrat Congress is a disgrace!

BAGHDAD IS SAVED—IRAQI’S CELEBRATE SURGE
Surge Anniversary!!
Greetings Jim,
Today is the one year anniversary of the launch of operation ‘Rule of Law’ or the Surge as we know it. Iraqis are celebrating all over Iraq and especially in Baghdad for this occasion. Military parades were held in Baghdad with a commemorative laying of flower wreaths at the tomb of the unknown soldier.
What a difference a year makes! This was possible thanks to all of the effort and sacrifices of our men and women and the efforts and sacrifices of the Iraqis, who trust our military and their military more than their own government (this a good sign). There has been a tremendous decline in violence and a continued defeat of Al-Qaeda thanks to this Surge and operation Rule of law and the awakening committees. The rebuilding of the Shrine in Samara has started. The bombing of the Shrine in Samara by Al-Qaeda, as you know, sparked much of the sectarian violence two years ago.
Best Regards,
Haider Ajina
Proud Iraqi-American

US AID TO AFRICA BUOYS BUSH IMAGE THERE
By Rukmini Callimachi, Associated Press Writer
MONROVIA, Liberia - In a humid rehearsal studio, Liberia’s pop queen is practicing her newest single a song called “Thank you” to be released for President Bush’s visit here next week.
Her head tilted back, Juli Endee pulls the microphone close and belts out, “Thank you, George Bush.”
“Thank you for democracy,” she croons over the electric guitar, shaking her hips wrapped in yellow cloth. “Thank you for the rule of law,” she sings. “Thank you for debt relief.”
Bush is scheduled to head to Africa on Friday for a visit that will bring him to one of the few parts of the globe where people still have a favorable view of America. A recent Pew poll of 47 nations found that America’s popularity is exceptionally high in Africa, where some hold the U.S. in higher regard than Americans do themselves.
America’s popularity verges on exuberance in this nation founded in 1847 by freed U.S. slaves. “If you were to take a survey, you would find that there is not one Liberian that doesn’t love George Bush,” effuses pop star Endee, whose songs calling for peace were among the most played during Liberia’s civil war.

I didn't know there was such a thing as the George W Bush Store. Thank you for the link.

Funny Man! but sad & TRUE!
Good night everyone. I have a mega headache to deal with.. literal, not figurative. (plenty of the figurative ones abound here also)

I think I was one of their best customers during the 2004 campaign — they sold the BEST Bush-Cheney04 merchandise!!!
Good night, Dolly :)
‘Im so mad, I cant type what Im thinking.’
I understand...I was furious yesterday when Fox reported this....I had to call Pelosi’s office three times and finally got thru but they immediately put me to a voice message system....and I left a HEATED message. I emailed Pelosi but got a message saying it probably won’t go through since I’m not a constituent....thank God.
I planned to call Stney Hoyer’s office today but I then heard they left yesterday......I am just sick of all of them, they do not deserve the honor of being a representative of the people of this great country!
Cool!
I’ll be praying for the protection of the President and First Lady while they’re in Africa.
Thanks for the IBD link. Good article. I share this with as many as I can.....people need to know what’ going on and begin to stand up.
Lovely photos of the President and the First Lady after the frustration of the day it must be a relief to get away from DC.
The Iraqi Parliament has more accomplished then our entire congress
That mug looks great
The tee-shirt looked good but the size stated commence at medium and I suspect that an US medium will be like a British large so unfortunately would be far too big for me, shame they do not do a small or petite.
Thanks silent_jonny for the daily dose. Always a pleasure.
