Bill would require NJ drivers to make organ donation choice
The Star Ledger ^ | February 14, 2008 | Susan K. Livio

Posted on 02/14/2008 9:00:14 PM PST by Eric Blair 2084

New Jersey would become the first state in the country to require people renewing or obtaining a driver's license to decide whether they are willing to become registered organ donors under a bill a Senate committee approved today.

The "New Jersey Hero Act" (S755) also would make New Jersey the first state to require high school health classes to teach the importance of organ donation.

The Senate Health, Human Services and Senior Citizens Committee unanimously approved the bill over the objections of the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission. MVC Chief of Staff Denise Coyle said neither the commission's 30-year-old computer system nor its planned replacement is capable of completing the tasks the legislation would require.

Coyle asked the committee to consider delaying enactment of the bill until the next legislative session, which begins in January 2010.

"We have to focus more on our core mission - security, safety and services'' for drivers, Coyle testified.

Members of the committee not only refused to delay acting on the bill, they also agreed to eliminate an $80,000 appropriation to create the database. At the urging of Sen. Robert Singer (R-Ocean), Chairman Joseph Vitale (D-Middlesex) agreed the commission could come back to the committee if it couldn't afford to absorb the cost of the project.

"Our goal is to generate a conversation about organ donation early and often so that people truly understand what's at stake and the power they hold to save lives," Senate President Richard Codey (D-Essex), who sponsored the bill, said after the vote.

There are 4,244 state residents waiting for an organ transplant, according to the Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network. During the last 10 years, 2,470 New Jersey residents have died on the waiting list.

it's very simple: greed. acquire power to ensure riskless transactions. it is the dark side of capitalism. That's why capitalism requires the strictest morality by its players in order to be truly creative.

the lower natures loves a monopoly. what better monopoly than absolute power over men?

Interesting..Suppose my religion forbids the ‘mandatory’ donation of my body or any of it’s parts to the State or to an organ donation facility? Then it becomes a matter of Separation of Church and State and the State is infringing on my religious beliefs...

Don’t worry, i’ll find the proper wording in one of my religion books...

Still wanna pass that bill ?

Let me go on record now that, in case of a bad accident, I do not want the brain of anyone from New Jersey to be donated to me, OK? In fact, even if I thought there might be a “match” possible from one of them, I’d probably just kill myself right now.

Hospital gets paid.
Surgeon gets paid.
Anesthesiologist gets paid.
Hospital staff gets paid.
Rehab doctor gets paid.
Rehab staff gets paid.

Donor's family gets...

nothing. But it is the human thing to do - for free. But only for the donor.

By the way....if a woman has the lawful right to control her body, doesn’t any person have a right to determine what will happen to his or her body after passing away ?

Liberalism = the willing suspension of belief in the rule of law in order to legislate contradictory laws.

I really don’t understand your problem !!
You make it sound like they are demanding that you donate your body to the state.

As with Tennessee, as Tennessee Nan pointed out, the back of the DL has organ donor info and permission.

Do you really have a problem with making a check mark?

Brave New world anyone?

No organ, excepting the cornea, is viable after the Heart and respiratory functions cease. Tissue death begins immediately at the cellular level. This is why the Frankenstein medical culture invented the convenient fiction of “brain death,” so that they may harvest viable organs from a still living human being. To wit: a license to murder for profit.

We are living in a Brave New World governed by Orwellian tyrants. How far will this need go before the American psyche is convinced of the necessity to take up arms and put down this evil before it destroys us all?

I guess I don’t see why this is a big deal. I have had ‘organ doner’ marked on my Colorado driver’s license for at least 30 years. Once I pass from this world, I will have no need for my body/organs so why not give them to someone who needs them to live.

Eventually, science/medicine will figure out a better way...but for now, a donated organ can make the difference between life and death for someone.

It is not like New Jersey is forcing anyone to become a donor.

I do not, but I suppose the info is readily available. Any good medical book ought be sufficient. I’ll do some searching. But the best source is a micro biologist.

Think it through. Cells need oxygen and a conduit to rid themselves of the toxins produced by their metabolism of sugars. That is one function of blood. No blood flow, no oxygen. No blood flow, no removal of toxins. No respiration, ditto.

This is why the transplant industry needed a new medical definition for death. If they waited for actual death to occur, then it would be too late. Cell death is ubiquitous and irreversible. Brain death is a medical fiction. What they really are stating is that the higher brain functions are in stasis, which is wholly subjective, since we cannot know what a comatose individual is experiencing. We do know that in most cases the vital organs are still functioning and metabolism is continuing. So the brain is not in fact dead.

Remember Terri Schiavo? All she required was food and water, because although she was incapable of using her voluntary muscles, her bodily functions were still viable... until they starved and dehydrated her to death.

If you have ever worked in a trauma center, you will note that they do not hook up an EEG, but rather an EKG. When you “flat-line” and no longer have a heart beat or respiration, barring use of a ventilator etc, you die. The brain dies several minutes later from lack of blood, and thus lack of oxygen, but the other organs are already become irreparably damaged. So the body dies before the brain, under normal conditions.

The transplant farmers have artificially reversed the natural process by inventing “brain death” so to harvest still living tissue. That is also the reason why you cannot receive an official declaration of death by any other individual than a doctor at the hospital. No matter what police on the scene of an accident may report, they are not considered competent to declare death. And if paramedics know you are all but gone, yet have possession of the magic “donor” card, they will keep your body alive long enough for transport to the hospital and the organ harvesting team, whom eagerly await your arrival, declare you dead, and then go about the grizzly work of murder.

The only thing that slows down the process of cellular decomposition is very cold temperatures. That is why sometimes very young drowning victims survive after being under water for an hour. The metabolic functions become suspended and thus the cells are preserved from damage. Same reason that “donated” organs must be kept on ice.

Now the Catholic definition of death is when the soul leaves the body. That is verified by decomposition. That is why we “wake” people for three days... Before the advent of embalming, if one did not “wake” then his corpse would begin to stink after three days, and you were then sure the individual was dead and in need of burial.

A. I volunteer to be an Organ Donor and will have priority of I am in need of an Organ Transplant.

B. I Refuse be an Organ Donor and due to my decision not to be an organ Donor will not be Eligible to receive an organ donation.
